Ten animal hospitals in Seoul were selected, and of which 41,305 practice in total for recent 1 year were analyzed based on international classification of disease(ICD) of WHO. Of the entire practice, prophylaxis cases accounted for 42.2%. Of the 9,376 cases of internal diseases, digestive system diseases accounted for 4,957 cases(52.9%), respiratory system diseases 1,776 cases(18.9%), circulatory system diseases 1,239 cases(13.2%), and neoplasms diseases 413 cases(4.4%), respectively. In the estate investment expenses, to be specific, rental guarantee deposit accounted for about 50% of the entire estate cost, foregift(48%), and monthly rent(2%). Dividing the income of animal hospitals into medical service, articles selling, and pet-dog beauty, medical service accounted for 71.6% of the entire sales, selling of articles 16.7%, and pet-dog beauty 11.6%. Publicity work for the animal hospital was done mostly through web sites on internet(47%), then through local advertising papers(23.5%), and through bulletins and telemarketing(11.8%). Manpower of the animal hospitals in this study was mostly composed of veterinarians(45.5%) up to about half of the entire staffs, while there was no veterinary technician who had specialized education in that area.

질병진단에 있어서 부검의 중요성은 두 말할 필요가 없다. 왜냐하면 정확한 진단은 질병의 본질과 병원체의 병리기전(pathogenesis)을 이해함으로써 합리적인 치료와 예방대책을 수립할 수 있다. 특히 최근에는 동물질병과 환경 위해 요소 등 공중위생적인 측면이 상당히 부각되어 사람에게도 영향을 줄 수 있는 인수공통 전염병의 예방을 용이하게 한다. 특히 축산업의 발달에 따라 돼지나 닭의 경우는 개체 진료보다는 집단 단위 (herd 또는 flock)의 위생관리가 중요하기 때문에 질병에 대한 역학적 상황 분석과 부검 진단은 필수 불가결한 과정이다. A 7-year-old castrated male Maltese developed anemia, ascites with peritonitis, and vomiting after urethrostomy. A microbial culture test of the peritoneal fluid indicated Candida albicans. Antifungal therapy was administered with intravenous fluconazole combined with antibacterial therapy. The patient recovered completely 37 days after referral admission.

This study was performed to investigate on the frequent chief complaints and the causes of dogs and cats visiting to an emergency department, and to suggest the minimum requirements for veterinary emergency clinics in South Korea. The medical records were reviewed for 2,368 dogs and 347 cats visiting the emergency department of Haemaru Referral Animal Hospital from March 2012 to August 2013. Among them, 255 dogs and 35 cats visited more than one time and each visit was considered as an individual case. Therefore, 2,784 cases of dogs and 396 cases of cats were reviewed. The medical records were analyzed according to the criteria such as signalment, chief complaints, diagnoses, hospital admission, and outcome. In dogs, vomiting, diarrhea, or both were the most common chief complaints, followed by dyspnea, trauma, seizure, and lethargy. The most common causes of emergency visits were gastrointestinal disorders, followed by neurologic, cardiovascular, respiratory, urologic, and hematologic disorders. In cats, dyspnea was the most common chief complaint, followed by vomiting, diarrhea, or both, trauma, dysuria, and lethargy. The most common causes of emergency visits were urologic disorders followed by gastrointestinal, respiratory, infectious, and cardiovascular disorders. According to the results, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspnea, and trauma were the most frequently encountered chief complaints, which accounted for approximately 48.6% of all cases in both dogs and cats. However common causes were differed between the dogs and the cats. In order to provide proper emergency service, it is required to prepare the clinicians and facilities to diagnose and stabilize these emergency patients.

A 1-month-old female Korean native calf was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Kyungpook National University. The chief complaint was a supernumerary limb on the dorsal thoracic region. The ectopic limb was smaller than normal limbs and it was partially attached on the ribs. Surgical excision was performed to remove the supernumerary ectopic limb and notomelia was successfully corrected. Supernumerary ectopic limb is defined as the presence of accessory limb or limbs attached to various body regions. This study reports macroscopic and radiographic features of notomelia in a female Korean native calf.
