Shear Strength Characteristics of Weathered Granite Soil below the Freezing Point (동결온도 조건에서의 화강풍화토 전단강도 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Analysis via classical soil mechanics theory is either ineffective or inappropriate for fully describing stress distribution or failure conditions in cold regions, since mechanical properties of soils in cold regions are different from those reported in the classical soil mechanics theory. Therefore, collecting and analyzing technical data, and systematic and specialized research for cold regions are required for design and construction of the structure in cold regions. Freezing and thawing repeat in active layer of permafrost region, and a loading condition affecting the structure changes. Therefore, the reliable analysis of mechanical properties of frozen soils according to various conditions is prerequisite for design and construction of the structure in cold regions, since mechanical properties of frozen soils are sensitive to temperature condition, water content, grain size, relative density, and loading rate. In this research, the direct shear apparatus which operates at 30 degrees below zero and large-scaled low temperature chamber are used for evaluating shear strength characteristics of frozen soils. Weathered granite soil is used to analyzed the shear strength characteristics with varying freezing temperature condition, vertical confining pressure, relative density, and water content. This research shows that the shear strength of weathered granite soil is sensitively affected by various conditions such as freezing temperature conditions, normal stresses, relative densities, and water contents.

  • Freezing of turbulent water flow between two horizontal cooled parallel plates with the separated region has been investigated experimentally. The flow separation was induced by vertical plates (two-dimensional plates) situated at the inlet of the rectangular channel. The degree of flow separation was varied by employing vertical thin plates with various heights. Three kinds of the vertical plates with 8.0, 9.8 and 12.5 mm in height were utilized. The Reynolds number and cooling temperature ratio were ranged from $3.45\times10^3 to 1.73\times10^4$ and 7.0 to 20.0 respectively, The measurements show that the flow separation influenced remarkably on the local ice formation characteristics. The location of the first ice layer and the average heat transfer at the ice surface were found be correlated as a function of the Reynolds number, the cooling temperature ratio, and the orifice height ratio.

  • 고분자전해질연료전지 시스템이 영하 조건에 노출될 경우, 셀의 성능 및 내구성에 미치는 영향을 실험적으로 확인해 보았다. -30 $^{\circ}C{\sim}70$ $^{\circ}C$ 조건을 반복 경험시키며, 성능저하 정도를 살펴보았다. 일반적인 운전조건과 동결/해동에 의한 성능저하 요인을 분리하여 확인하기 위해, 30 $^{\circ}C{\sim}70$ $^{\circ}C$ 범위의 사이클을 진행한 경우에 대해, 위와 통일한 분석을 통하여 성능 및 각종 물성 값의 변화를 비교하였다. 동결조건에서 셀의 성능저하는 형성된 얼음의 물리적 부피팽창으로 인한 계면저항의 증가가 주요 원인임을 밝힐 수 있었다.

  • In this study, we describe the application of electron microscopes that incorporate freeze treatments or cryo systems to achieve the characterization of the microstuctures of emulsions. We confirmed that the preparations of freezing replica method and with cryo systems were useful to clarify the microstuctures of the emulsions. This methodology will be able to contribute to understanding the relation between microstuctures and rheology of emulsions.

Characteristics of $TiO_2$ Powders Prepared by Freeze Drying Method (동결건조법으로 제조한 $TiO_2$의 특성)

  • Extremely fine $TiO_2$ powders were synthesized from titanium chloride by the precipitation and freeze drying method. The phase transformation and electrical conductivity were investigated as a function of temperature. X-ray analysis showed that the phase transformation of the synthesized powder from the anatase to rutile occured at 64$0^{\circ}C$ and finished at 92$0^{\circ}C$ due to small particle size and large specific surface area. The activation energy obtained from electrical conductivity vs. temperature was about 1.63eV. This relatively large value was due to porosity in the specimen.

  • 식품의 건조는 저장성을 향상시키고 수송을 간편하게 하나 특별한 경우는 건조과정에서 일어나는 성분변화에 의해 풍미, 색깔, 조직 등이 향성되게 하는 경우도 있다. 그러나 일반적으로 건조에 의해 풍미의 저하, 색깔의 퇴조, 영양성분의 손실 및 조직과 형태의 손상 등 품질을 저하시키므로 가능한 저온에서 단시간에 수분을 제거해야 한다. 건조식품의 저장성은 수분활성도, 제품의 종류, 저장온도등 다양한 요인들에 영향을 받으며, 특히 수분 활성도에 따라 비효소 갈색화 반응, 지방의 산패, 미생물의 발생정도가 달라진다. 따라서 건조식품 저장시 변질을 방지하기 위해서는 식품의 수분함량을 측정할 수 있는 등온흡습곡선을 작성하는 것이 중요하다. 또한 식품의 단분자층 수분함량을 결정하고, 흡습에 필요한 에너지를 구함으로서 건조식품의 저장조건 및 포장조건의 선택시 유용한 자료가 된다. 특히 식품분말의 흡습특성은 분말입자의 크기, 형태, 화학성분 등과 밀접한 관련이 있다. 위의 사실로 미루어 볼 때 본 연구에서는 시판 유통되고 있는 두부를 진공동결 시킴으로써 위생화와 장기저장 가능성을 연구하면서 진공동결 건조 후 시료의 수분활성, 재수화 및 일반성분 변화를 검토하고자 한다.

An Experimental Study on the Dynamic Characteristics of Frozen Soil (동결토의 동적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Ultrasonic propagation velocities of both the dilatational and shear waves through the weathered tuff soil sampled from the area tying between Ulanbator and Beijing were measured under temperature condition of near subzero by means of sing-around method. After comparing the results with obtained data on unfrozen water content, a linear relation between velocities and unfrozen water content was performed with high coefficient value. Experimental results of two kinds of rather uniform materials, namely, glass-beads and silica micro-beads, testified the similar linear relations. In addition, the change rate of dilatational wave velocities with the change of volumetric unfrozen water content was not dependent on soil type. Although a rational theory of the ultrasonic velocities dependence on the unfrozen water content is not yet proposed, the presented empirical relationships may suggest the appropriate evaluation to the effect of unfrozen water on dynamic characteristics of frozen soil.

Resistance of Freeze-Thaw and Strength Development of Recycled Concrete (재생콘크리트의 강도발현 및 동결융해 저항성 특성)

  • The strength and freeze-thaw test were carried out in order to use recycled aggregate as crushed aggregate in concrete. The recycled concrete had a lower flexture and compressive strengths than ordinary concrete, but the inclusion of fly ash shows similar results in both concretes. The resistance of freeze-thaw was strongly influenced by W/C ratio, content of recycled aggregate and fly ash, and it was also found that the resistance was higher when W/C ratio and fly ash content was lower. and was superior when replacement level of recycled aggregate reached to 80%.

Freezing Characteristics of Still Water Under a Subcooling Condition (과냉각상태 정지수의 동결특성에 관한 연구)

  • this paper presents the results of experiments on subsooling degree characteristics which was analyzed in accordance with various test conditions. The test water was cooled below freezing point temperature, was measured. The results showed that using city water as the test water in pyrex tube indicated small standard deviation (SD) compared to using distilled water, and minimum subcooling degree was 6.9$^{\circ}C$ and 6.2$^{\circ}C$, respectively. In addition, a critical subcooling degree in a pyrex tube was larger than that in a stainless steel tube about 0.7$^{\circ}C$ for the same test water. It was also observed that the standard deviation of data for the distilled water showed decreasing tendency aw the increasing with cooling velocity. Then metaldehyde showed a considerable effect on the subcooling degree of distilled water as the ice nucleating substance with increase of test number.

동결건조를 이용한 그래핀 에어로겔의 기공제어 및 약물방출

  • 그래핀 에어로겔은 우수한 전기 열 전도도, 기계적 특성, 넓은 표면적으로 베터리, 약물방출 등 다양한 분야에서 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 특히, 그래핀 에어로겔은 친수성, 생체안전성, 삼차원구조의 특성으로 우수한 약물방출형 임플란트 소재로의 활용이 기대된다. 본 연구에서는 그래핀 산화물의 수열처리를 통해 그래핀 하이드로겔 형성 후, 저온건조와 동결건조를 이용하여 그래핀 에어로겔을 제조하였다. 그래핀 산화물과 그래핀 에어로겔의 특징들을 XRD, SEM, XPS, Raman등을 통해 확인하였으며, 그래핀 에어로겔에서 건조방법과 건조시간에 따른 기계적 강도, 기공구조의 제어가능성을 BET, SEM등의 분석을 통해 확인하였다. 이러한 기공구조 제어를 통해 약물방출 특성을 측정하였으며, 인체 삽입형 임플란트로서의 활용 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.
