  • Dome shape design method of filament wound (FW) composite pressure vessel, which can create various dome shape with fixed boss opening, was suggested. And, the performance indices (PV/W) for composite pressure vessel with same boss opening but different dome shape were investigated by finite element analysis (FEA) and hydro-test. The FEA showed good agreement with test results for burst pressure. Generally, as the dome shape of pressure vessel was changed to flat dome, the inner volume is increased and the burst pressure is decreased. In the case of above ${\rho}_o$=0.54, the performance index showed decreased value due to the low burst pressure. However, at ${\rho}_o$=0.35, the dome shape change brings not significant reduction of burst pressure and performance index.

  • We described the scale characteristics of induced hybrids between female red seabream (Pagrus major Temminck et Schlegel) and male black seabream (Acanthopagrus schlegelii Bleeker), and of their parental species. The external scalar morphology of induced hybrids showed intermediate characters compared to those of the parental species. The mean number of primary apical grooves and lateral line scales was $10.5{\pm}2.6$ and $49.5{\pm}0.5$, respectively, in induced hybrids, which also showed intermediate meristic characters compared to those of the parental species (P<0.01). The meristic characters used in this study may be useful parameters for the identification of genotypes of these seabream species.

  • In this study, we evaluated the structural integrity and weight of a rocket motor with a torispherical dome by size optimization. Size optimization was achieved by first-order and sub-problem methods, using the Ansys Parametric Design Language (APDL). For rapid design verification, a modified 2D axisymmetric finite-element model was used, and the bolt pre-tension load was expressed as function of the ratio of the cross-sectional area. The thickness of the dome and the cylindrical part of the rocket motor were selected as the design parameters. Our results showed that the weight and structural integrity of the rocket motor at the initial design stage could be determined more rapidly and accurately with the modified 2D axisymmetric finite-element model than with the 3D finite-element model; further, the weight of the rocket motor could be saved to maximum of 17.6% within safety limit.

  • The maturation and spawning of Black seabream Acanthopagrus schlegeli were investigated using samples randomly collected in the Southern Sea of Korea from March 2007 to February 2008. The FL at 50% sex-changers maturity was estimated to be 26.7 cm. We estimated monthly changes in maturity stages and gonadosomatic index (GSI). The spawning period ranged from March to July, and the peak spawning occurred in May and June. The fecundity (F) was 839,600 eggs at 32.2 cm fork length (FL) to 2,894,913 eggs at 42.0 cm FL, and the relationship between FL and F was expressed as $F=1.264FL^{3.869}$ ($R^2=0.736$). The FL at 50% group maturity was estimated to be 25.8 cm for females and 19.0 cm for males. The sex ratio was 19.9% for female, 20.9% for early sex-changers, 28.7% late sex-changers, 30.5% for male.

  • Axisymmetric modeling of the nuclear containment building has been often employed in practice to estimate structural behavior for the axisymmetric loadings, where the axisymmetric approximation is required for the actual non-axisymmetric tendon arrangements in the dome. In the preceding companion paper, some procedures are proposed for the domestic CANDU and KSNP type containments that can implement the actual 3-dimensional tendon stiffness and prestressing effect into the axisymmetric model. In this paper, the proposed schemes are verified through some numerical examples comparing the results of the actual 3-dimensional model with those of some axisymmetric models. The results of the proposed axisymmetric analyses show relatively good agreements with the actual structural behavior especially for the CANDU type. Also, it is shown that proper level of the prestressing in a hoop direction plays an important role to predict the actual prestressing effect in the axisymmetric dome modeling. Finally, correction factors are discussed that can revise some approximations introduced in the derivations.
