On the Study of the Mass Transport near the Entrance of Inclined Breakwaters due to Viscosity (점성 효과에 의한 경사진 방파제 입구에서의 토사 이동에 관한 연구)

  • Herein we investigate the mass transport velocity caused by the viscosity near the ocean structure such as circular pile and inclined breakwaters. The mass transport velocity which is represented by the sum of the Eulerian velocity and the stokes drift were derived by Carter, Liu and Mei(1973). The tangential components of the inviscid velocity field at the bottom needed in the calculation of the mass transport velocity is obtained by solving the scattering problem due to breakwaters. The matched asymptotic expansion technique is employed to obtain the inviscid flow fields scattered by inclined breakwaters. The numerical results show that heary sediments tends to be deposited near the center of breakwaters and that the narrowing of the entrance width results in reduction of the magnitude of mass transport.

Analysis on Probable Rainfall Intensity in Kyungpook Province (경북지방(慶北地方)의 확률(確率) 강우강도(降雨强度)에 대(對)한 분석(分析))

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate an optimum formula of rainfall intensity on basis of the characteristics for short period of rainfall duration in Kyungpook province for the design of urban sewerage and small basin drain system. Results studied are as follows; 1. The optimum method for Taegu and Pohang, Iwai's and Gumbel-Chow's method are recommended respectively. 2. The opotimum type of rainfall intensity for these area, $I=\frac{a}{\sqrt{t}+b}$ (Japanese type), is confirmed with 2.52~4.17 and 1.86~4.54 as a standard deviation for Taegu and Pohang respectively. The optimum formula of rainfall intensity are as follows. Taegu : T : 200 year - $I=\frac{824}{\sqrt{t}+1.5414}$ T : 100 year - $I=\frac{751}{\sqrt{t}+1.4902}$ T : 50 year - $I=\frac{678}{\sqrt{t}+1.4437}$ T : 30 year - $I=\frac{623}{\sqrt{t}+1.4017}$ T : 20 year - $I=\frac{580}{\sqrt{t}+1.3721}$ T : 10 year - $I=\frac{502}{\sqrt{t}+1.3145}$ T : 5 year - $I=\frac{418}{\sqrt{t}+1.2515}$ Pohang : T : 200 year - $I=\frac{468}{\sqrt{t}+1.1468}$ T : 100 year - $I=\frac{429}{\sqrt{t}+1.1605}$ T : 50 year - $I=\frac{391}{\sqrt{t}+1.1852}$ T : 30 year - $I=\frac{362}{\sqrt{t}+1.2033}$ T : 20 year - $I=\frac{339}{\sqrt{t}+1.2229}$ T : 10 year - $I=\frac{299}{\sqrt{t}+1.2578}$ T : 5 year - $I=\frac{257}{\sqrt{t}+1.3026}$ 3. Adsorption Kinetic and Thermodynamic Studies of Tricyclazole on Granular Activated Carbon (입상 활성탄에 대한 트리사이크라졸의 흡착동력학 및 열역학적 연구)

  • The adsorption characteristics of tricyclazole by granular activated carbon were experimently investigated in the batch adsorption. Kinetic studies of adsorption of tricyclazole were carried out at 298, 308 and 318 K, using aqueous solutions with 250, 500 and 1,000 mg/L initial concentration of tricyclazole. It was established that the adsorption equilibrium of tricyclazole on granular activated carbon was successfully fitted by Freundlich isotherm equation at 298 K. The pseudo first order and pseudo second order models were used to evaluate the kinetic data and the pseudo second order kinetic model was the best with good correlation. Values of the rate constant ($k_2$) have been calculated as 0.1076, 0.0531, and 0.0309 g/mg h at 250, 500 and 1,000 mg/L initial concentration of tricyclazole, respectively. Thermodynamic parameter such as activation energy, standard enthalpy, standard entropy and standard free energy were evaluated. The positive value for enthalpy, -66.43 kJ/mol indicated that adsorption interaction of tricyclazole on activated carbon was an exothermic process. The estimated values for standard free energy were -5.08~-8.10 kJ/mol over activated carbon at 200 mg/L, indicated toward a exothermic process.

Removal of Cd(II) by Cation Exchange Resin in Differential Bed Reactor (미분층반응기에서 양이온 교환수지에 의한 카드뮴(II)의 제거)

  • In this study, in order to remove Cd(II) from aqueous solutions, strongly acidic cation exchange resin(SK1B) by Diaion Co. was employed as an adsorbent. Experiments were mainly performed in two parts at room temperature($25{\pm}5^{\circ}C$) : batch tests and adsorption kinetics tests. In batch tests adsorption equilibrium time, pH effects, temperature effects, several adsorption isotherms, and finally desorption tests were examined. In differential bed tests, an optimum flow rate and an overall adsorption rate were obtained. In the batch experiment, adsorption capability increased with pH and became constant above pH 6 and adsorption quantity increased with temperature. Batch experimental data found that Freundlich and Sips adsorption isotherms were more favorable than Langmuir adsorption isotherm over the range of concentration (5~15ppm). The desorbent used in the desorption test was hydrochloric acid solution with different concentrations(0.01~2N). The degree of regeneration increased with concentration of desorbent and decreased slightly with the number of regeneration. In the continuous flow process using a differential bed reactor, the optimum flow rate was $564m{\ell}/min$ above which the film diffusion resistance was minimized. The overall adsorption rate for the removal of Cd(II) by cation exchange resin was found as follows ; $r=1.3785C_{fc}^{1.2421}-2.0907{\times}10^{0.0746C_i}\;q_e^{0.0121C_i-0.0301}$

Designing Modified Atmosphere Packaging for Persimmon (Diospyros kaki cv. Fuyu) Fruit Based on Respiration Modelling (단감의 최적 Modified Atmosphere포장 규격 설정)

  • A respiration rate analysed by enzyme kinetics-based respiration model and gas permeability data of LDPE film were applied to design the optical modified atmosphere (MA) packaging condition of persimmon (Diospyros kaki cv. Fuyu) fruits. The fruit quality rapidly decreases due to physiology disorder such as softening and peel blackening. $O_2$ permeance ($Q_{O2}$ in $ml{\cdot}hr^{-1}{\cdot}atm^{-1}{\cdot}m^{-2}$) and $CO_2$ performance ($Q_{CO2}$ in $ml{\cdot}hr^{-1}{\cdot}atm^{-1}{\cdot}m^{-2}$) of low density polyethylene (LDPE) film samples were measured at $0^{\circ}C$ and described as function of thickness (L in ${\mu}m$) as $Q_{O2}=(2540{\times}1/L)-16$, and $Q_{CO2}=(13742{\times}1/L)-70$, respectively. MA package containing single persimmon fruit of 225g was designed and tested experimentally at $0^{\circ}C$ by using LDPE films. Package atmospheres predicted from the relationship of $O_2$, $CO_2$ and $N_2$ balances on the packages was in good agreement with those obtained experimentally. Physiology disorder occurrence was the lowest at 52 ${\mu}m$ package that attained optimum gas condition ($O_2$ 2.8% and $CO_2$ 5.4%). The computer simulation was found to be effective to help to design the optimum MA packaging condition of individual persimmon fruit.

Creation and Elaboration of Problem Space Depending on Students' Attitudes toward the Task and Thinking Skills (학생의 과제에 대한 태도와 사고력에 따른 문제공간의 형성과 정교화)

  • Inquiry has been emphasized in science classrooms, but the problems shown in the inquiry are somewhat different with ones that students usually meet and experience in everyday life. The purpose of this study is to investigate how attitudes toward the task and thinking skills affect students' problem solving process, especially, the way of creating a problem space and elaborating problem solving strategies when they have little schema. The difference in students' problem solving strategies of Lego Robotics class, one of the summer programs for $4^{th}-6^{th}$ grade gifted students, which is new to them, was investigated. The results are as follows: (1) The difference in attitudes toward the task, or selection and identification of the missions, and the perception of operators, affected creating a different problem space. (2) Different level of thinking skills, or analytical and flexible thinking, efficient elaborative skill, and application of schema affected a different level of elaboration of the problem space and resulted in asuccess rate of problem solving. (3) Different initial problem space resulted in different problem solving strategies. But without thinking skills, students could not elaborate problem solving strategies efficiently. Several instructional recommendations to promote scientific inquiry were suggested based on the results.

Study on Adsorption Kinetic Characteristics of Propineb Pesticide on Activated Carbon (활성탄에 대한 프로피네브 농약의 흡착동력학적 특성 연구)

  • The adsorption characteristics of propineb pesticide onto activated carbon has been investigated for the adsorption in aqueous solution with respect to initial concentration, contact time and temperature in batch experiment. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were applied to described the equilibrium isotherms and isotherm constants were also determined. The Freundlich model agrees with experimental data well. slope of isotherm line indicate that activated carbon could be employed as effective treatment for removal of propineb. The pseudo first order, pseudo second order kinetic models were use to describe the kinetic data and rate constants were evaluated. The adsorption process followed a pseudo second order model, and the adsorption rate constant($k_2$) decreased with increasing initial concentration of propineb. The activation energy, change of free energy, enthalpy, and entropy were also calculated to predict the nature adsorption. The estimated values for change of free energy were -7.28, -8.27 and -11.66 kJ/mol over activated carbon at 298, 308 and 318 K, respectively. The results indicated toward a spontaneous process. The positive value for change of enthalpy, 54.46 kJ/mol, found that the adsorption of propineb on activated carbon is an endothermic process.

Study on Equilibrium, Kinetic and Thermodynamic for Adsorption of Quinoline Yellow by Granular Activated Carbon (입상 활성탄에 의한 Quinoline Yellow의 흡착에 대한 평형, 동력학 및 열역학에 관한 연구)

  • Batch adsorption studies were carried out for equilibrium, kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for quinoline yellow adsorption by granular activated carbon ($8{\times}30mesh$, $1,578m^2/g$) with varying the operating variables like initial concentration, contact time and temperature. Equilibrium adsorption data were fitted into Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherms. From estimated Langmuir constant ($R_L=0.0730{\sim}0.0854$), Freundlich constant (1/n = 0.2077~0.2268), this process could be employed as effective treatment for removal of quinoline yellow. From calculated Temkin constant (B = 15.759~21.014 J/mol) and Dubinin-Radushkevich constant (E = 1.0508~1.1514 kJ/mol), this adsorption process is physical adsorption. From kinetic experiments, the adsorption process were found to confirm to the pseudo second order model with $r^2$ > 0.99 for all concentrations and temperatures. Thermodynamic parameters like activation energy, change of free energy, enthalpy, and entropy were also calculated to predict the nature adsorption. The activation energy value (+35.137 kJ/mol) and enthalpy change (35.03 kJ/mol) indicated endothermic nature of the adsorption process. Entropy change (+134.38 J/mol K) showed that increasing disorder in process. Free energy change found that the spontaneity of process increased with increasing adsorption temperature.

Development of the Semi-Crawler Type Mini-Forwarder - Design and Manufacture - (반궤도식 산림작업차 개발(I) - 설계 및 제작 -)

  • This study was conducted to develop the semi-crawler type mini-forwarder that can be operated comfortable small-scale logging operation in the steep terrain and also used at a variety of operations such as the civil work in erosion control and forest-road. Considering the minimum turning radius and the width of forest operation road, the total length, width and loading capacity of the semi-crawler type mini-forwarder is 5,750 mm, 1,900 mm and $2.5m^{3}$, respectively. The maximum engine power is 96ps at 3600 rpm. Selected hydraulic pumps are consists of two main pumps and two sub-main pumps. Main hydraulic pumps are utilized to running motor of the front wheel and rear crawler. Sub-main pumps are utilized to the actuation parts such as steering, crane, out-rigger and dump cylinder. The transmission was adapted as the HST (Hydro-Static Transmission) system. The driving parts are designed and manufactured as the front wheel type and the rear crawler type. The steering type was manufactured as the ackerman type. Driving control parts type was designed and manufactured as driver's seat type of normal cars. It is also attached on auxiliary equipments such as winch, log grapple and out-rigger. The traveling speed of the semi-crawler type mini-forwarder in forest road was 5.3 km/hr to 7.7 km/hr.

A Study of College students' implicit representations of 'success/failure' by dual-priming task (이중점화기법을 통해 본 남녀 대학생의 '성공/실패'에 대한 암묵적 표상)

  • We investigated the implicit representations of success/failure associated with mother in male and female college students. In study 1, participants were presented 'mother' or 'basket' as a context prime and 'success' or 'failure' related words as second primes for 100ms, and were asked to make lexical decisions about 'accept' or 'reject' related words and non-words after 150 ms (SOA 250ms). Results revealed that lexical decision times on the mother condition were more rapid than the ones on the basket condition, and lexical decision times on the acceptance condition were more rapid than the ones on the rejection condition, and female participants showed shorter times than male students did. In study 2, we divided participants into four groups by gender and attachment style, Results showed that the interaction between success/failure and acceptance/rejection was statistically significant, that is, quickest lexical decision times on the success-acceptance condition, and slowed times on failure-acceptance, failure-rejection, and success-rejection condition in order. On the other hand, no significant differences between high and low attachment group were found in males, but significant three-way interactions were found in females. In highly attached females, lexical decision times in success-acceptance condition were not differed from ones in success-rejection condition, and slowed times in failure-rejection condition. Low attached females showed very rapid times in success-acceptance condition, but very slow times in success-rejection condition. The results were discussed in terms of self-positivity and success/failure scheme depending on gender and attachment styles.
