A Study on Urban Railway Service Quality by Technology Acceptance Model (기술수용모형을 통한 도시철도 서비스품질에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to verify the causal relationship between service quality of the urban railway operating agency and users' behaviors, targeting the urban railway users. The perceived ease of use of the urban railway service quality had an influence on tangibility and convenience, and the perceived usefulness was significant to all attributes; therefore, it is judged that reliability, correspondence and safety should be improved to increase the users' perceived ease of use of the urban railway service quality. Based on these study results, the urban railway operating agency should make an effort to increase the perceived ease of use and usefulness of the urban railway to improve the service quality, to positively change the users' attitudes toward use, and to make the positive change connected to the intention of reuse and intention of recommendation, the users' behavior intentions.

Study on Forecasting Urban Rail Demand Reflecting Transfer Fare Value in a Non-integrated Fare System (독립.환승할인요금체계하의 환승요금가치를 고려한 도시철도 수요추정 연구)

  • The recent increase of light rail construction by the private sector in Korea has caused a new issue in forecasting rail demand. Integrated fare systems between several rail operators is convenient and brings cost savings to users, and therefore is also very effective in increasing demand. However, it causes some short-term revenue loss to operators so that the private sector often suggests a non-integrated fare system. The current rail demand forecasting model is based upon an integrated fare system. Thus this model cannot be used to forecast the demand with a non-integrated fare system. Some value of transfer fare should be estimated and applied to forecast the demand in a non-integrated fare system. This study conducted a stated preference (SP) survey on urban railway passengers and estimated the value of transfer fare. The estimated value is 2,609 Won/hr, which is about 52% of in-vehicle time. This shows railway users have a tendency to pay more for transfer fares to save time or distance. This value has some limitations since it is derived from the SP survey. If some non-integrated fare system is applied in the future and a RP survey is conducted and compared with these study results, a more clear value of the transfer fare will be derived.

International Comparison of Fare Policy in Urban Metro (도시철도 운임정책 국제비교)

  • Recently, as various metro lines have been constructed and connected to other lines the rate of utilization has also been increased. However, the existing fare policy which the government does still stick to causes not only inappropriate action to the demand pattern but aggravation of the profit of the operation company. This study reviewed rail fare policy of major countries such as Japan and U.K etc. to improve the rationality of fare policy in Korea. In order to systematical analysis of fare policy, such viewpoints as of fare decision method, the card fare discounting system, the structure of fare, and the government subsidy policy were reviewed. Based on the results from the review, various problems and improvement plans were drawn. Through this study, appropriate fare systems to urban railway users could be given to improve the chronic deficit problem of urban railway operators.

Customer Satisfaction Analysis for Urban Railway Service Quality by IPA Analysis (IPA 분석을 이용한 도시철도 서비스품질의 고객만족도 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to prioritize the importance of urban railway service quality through statistical analysis. This was done to maximize customer satisfaction by providing customers of urban railway services (including LRT), operated by the local government, with a better customized service quality. It was hoped that this project would boost the need for public transportation by increasing customer satisfaction, which would eventually lead to more profitable revenue. The results of validity certification of expectations and perceptions before and after the use of government funded urban railway and private sector invested urban railways show that there are gaps for 18 items for the government funded urban rail projects (p<.01), while there is no significant difference for 2 items between expectation and perception (p>.05); private sector invested urban railway projects show differences for all 20 items (p<.001). Therefore, IPA analysis is conducted to improve the service quality; this should lead to a remedy that focuses on service quality. The findings of this study will contribute to providing management strategies for boosting customer satisfaction and creating revenue through customized service quality in the urban railway operating industry (including LRT), which is currently suffering from chronic deficits.

Land Rent Changes in the Subway Catchment Area: Case Study of Gwangju Metropolitan Area (도시철도 역세권의 지가분포 변동: 광주시 사례연구)

  • In a densely developed metropolitan area, the subway system is often constructed to address the mobility problems. Subway system was first introduced in Seoul in late 1970s, then Korean metropolitan cities began to adopt the system later. Subway systems not only resolve the mobility problems, but also interact with regional socioeconomic landscape. This study aims to find the association between the subway network and land rent within the subway catchment areas in Gwangju metropolitan city in a spaciotemporal framework. The analysis results indicated that proximity to the subway station and the size of nearest road were positively associated with the land rent. Also from a cluster analysis, it was found that the old and new Central Business Districts as well as stations at peripheral areas had distinctive land rent change characteristics. This empirical analysis indirectly proves the strong association between land rent and urban planning and also the positive relationship between land rent and transportation networks.

Allocating Revenues to Metropolitan Railroad Operators Using Public Transportation Card Data (대중교통 카드(RF Card) 자료를 활용한 수도권 도시철도 운영기관 간 수입금 정산 방법론에 대한 연구)

  • Users of metropolitan railroad is increased continuously because of its various advantage such as comfortableness, convenience and punctuality. Thus, several local government including Seoul considered new installation or extension of railroads and four railroad operators maintain seventeen lines at present. After public transportation reforms in 2004 and integrated discount fare system in 2007, public transportation become more convenient in many aspects. However, these trials gives much more complex allocating problems of revenues among public transportation operators. In this paper, we deal with revenue allocating problems among public transportation operators after integrated discount fare system in 2007. Specifically, this study focuses on allocating revenues to metropolitan railroad operators by using RF card data. This research roughly proposes the methodology of O/D extraction from RF card data, generalized cost estimation and allocating revenue algorithm. We use RF card data in order to draw out exact individual O/D data and try to compare our results with those of Korea Smart Card Company. In generalized cost estimation, survey study about transfer factors is conducted for accurate estimation of generalized cost function. Lastly, new allocating revenue algorithm using k-path and non-dominated path concept is suggested. It is expected that case study is also performed with real revenues and O/D data in order to check up the application. Preposed methodology in this research can contribute to solve present and future revenue allocating issues according to the introduction of LRT and private railroad.

On-line Condition Monitoring Technology of Railway Electrification System (도시철도 전기설비 온라인 상태진단 기술)

  • 최근들어, 도시철도 전력설비에는 온라인 상태진단이 가능한 센서를 설치하여 각 기기의 상태를 상시 감시하는 시스템이 도입되고 있다. 이러한 기술이 적용됨으로써 전력설비의 교체 주기를 판단하고, 사고를 미연에 방지 하는 등의 최적의 관리를 할 수 있게 되었다. 그러나 운영기관에 따라 다양한 방법의 진단설비가 설치되어 있어 유지보수가 어려워, 도시철도에 적합한 진단시스템의 개발이 요구되어 지고 있다. 도시철도 주요 전기설비로는 변압기, 단로기, 차단기, 정류기 등이 있다. 현재 이를 진단하기 위한 방법으로는 각 장치에 따라 부분방전시험, 유전정접시험, 절연유분석시험, 차단기동작시험 등이 있다. 본 연구에서는 현재 국내 외에서 제시되고 있는 전기설비의 온라인 상태진단 기술을 조사하고, 상용화된 온라인 상태진단 시스템을 분석하여 도시철도 전기설비에 적용 가능한 상태진단 항목과 상태진단 기법을 조사, 분석하였다.

  • This study shows that access to urban railway station affects the development of railway station's surrounding zone (RSSZ). For instance, the value of the property in RSSZ is likely to rise on the basis of the before and after the opening of a urban railway. Urban railway system is believed as an important solution to resolve worsening transport problems in metropolitan city. Also, the opening of a urban railway line is expected to affect the change of urban spatial structure, and to have more influence on land price of RSSZ.

  • To reduce conducted a survey on human error risk factors and related experience frequency to drivers of Seoulmetro and Korail. The human error arising from systems operating urban railway aimed at eliminating and reducing the fundamental causes of urban rail accidents is based on research from a factorial point of view, since it contains problems dealing with the types and situations of accident generation. It is required to contribute to reducing human error so that urban railway accidents may be reduced and safe operation will be continuedly seared.
