City design identity with application of the region's emotional image factors (감성적 지역 이미지요소를 적용한 도시디자인 아이덴티티)

  • The basic objective of this study is to suggest the city image ideas and methods of application based on the analysis of the regional characteristics and image factors in making proposal for integrated design for public facilities. Through understanding and analyzing natural, environmental, industrial characteristics, the city was subdivided into urban, marine, inland, and industrial complex areas. Also, local residents' attitude survey and the city's cultural iconic image survey analysis was performed simultaneously, and the survey results were used to establish the strategy for Pohang's city design identity and were applied in public facility design development process. Developing from the identity motive, "texture", the images of "iron", "marine", "science" were selected as core image of identity and were applied as design factors. Four unique colors were selected for each areas based on scenery color analysis. For facilities that needed to be installed separately in all four areas, "application of color and material consistency" and "application of shape consistency and partial color diversity consistency" were suggested to integrate the image of the city as a whole through establishing distinctive image for each area.

  • This paper aims to examine the ways in which the Singaporean government has promoted the "global city" imaging strategy as a means for marketing Singapore. Since the 1990s, Singapore has pursued a place-marketing strategy that aims at imaging itself as a "creative", "culturally vibrant" and "cosmopolitan" global city by utilizing various cultural, tourist and spatial policy measures. It argues that the Singaporean government has promoted this particular imaging strategy under a broader economic resoucturing program, aiming at transforming the Singapore's economy into a "knowledge-driven" one, under which the attraction of international knowledge workers is seen as crucial for the competitiveness and innovation. This paper also discusses the limitations of this strategy, focusing on growing tensions between the global and the local in the Singaporean society and the ways in which the authoritarian and top-down nature of governance have restricted the genuine development of the "culturally vibrant" environment in Singapore.

  • A city is the space which has a various historical experiment and memories. From these social and cultural environment, regional competitions through the introduction and settlement of a local self-government have been important in city marketing. For city development, a serial activation policies are come and in this process the native history and cultures have recognized as the core tool of cities. For possession of city competition, we have developed the cities' tangible and/or intangible cultural properties and make full use of a attractive asset. The city identity is established and the opportunity of a special space is made. This city identity has been dependent on spending time. We suggest the strategy for the historical and cultural city image through the historical element and the development of program for the promotion of publicity activities. The preservation and application of the modern architectures as the cultural and historical element promote the city image and build the position of city identity. We suggest the city marketing application strategy for the implication on the sustainable reproductive city.

A Study of the Building Model for a construction of 3D Virtual City (3D 가상도시 구축을 위한 건물모델 구축 연구)

  • GIS기술은 실세계의 분석에서부터 3D 가상도시의 구축까지 매우 빠르게 발전하고 있다. 3D가상도시는 GIS 기술, 컴퓨터그래픽스 기술, 가상현실 기술, 데이터베이스 기술에 의해 컴퓨터 속에 구현이 되는 도시를 말한다. 본 연구에서는 1/1,000 수치지도를 이용하여 3D건물모델을 형성하였고, 건물모델을 형성할 때는 삼각형 메쉬를 형성하고 최적의 메쉬를 형성하기 위하여 Divide and Conquer 알고리즘을 사용하였다. 메쉬가 형성된 수치지도의 건물모델에 대하여 기존의 기하파이프라인을 개선함으로서 건물모델을 빠르게 렌더링할 수 있도록 하였다. 건물측면에 대하여는 디지틀 카메라를 이용하여 측면에 대한 이미지를 취득하고 2D Projective Transformation을 적용하여 이미지를 조정하였다.

  • Regarding urban design in this 21st century, cities pursue human-oriented urban design through which nature, cities, and human beings are unified and interact with one another. For such urban design maintenance, it is needed to conduct systematic analysis and synthesis on various and complex factors of cities expressing urban images. Also, it is necessary to secure methods to evaluate those cities based on urban users' visual information. Thereupon, this study aims to suggest urban design evaluation methods which accept human behavior or needs and also allow us to figure out desirable images. For this, the study established the construction system of the most basic urban design components that form cities through literature review and expert evaluation. And it examines correlation among those factors with statistic means. Through this, the study suggests a new urban design evaluation system and evaluation process divided into experts and users so as to reflect user behavior or needs.

  • This paper discusses how the strategies for crime prevention are interrelated to sustainable urban development. The sustainable urban development for healthy and safe cities implies regulations or legal, lawful control to reduce fear of crime and prevent substantial threats to health and safety of individual persons as well as of the community. City planners attempt to apply to the strategies for crime prevention their perception of what the sustainable urban development should be with respect to urban environment. Many planners have studied on the possibility of reduction in fear of crime and actual crimes through environmental improvement. The results of their preliminary studies provide specific suggestions to reduce crimes and fear of crime by application of CPTED. This study proposes alternatives in policy necessary for CPTED, which is one of the strategies for crime prevention, to take its place as a useful strategy for making the urban societies safe and sustainable.

  • Increasing concern of urban community environment with acceleration of economic growth in modern generation, forcing us to recognize city's environment composition causes important factor for city's spirit. Since implementation of accountability of local government in 1995, local governments are thrives local government activation, compositing financially self support local government and competitiveness by others seeking number of methods for establishing traditional local images. In this study, analyzes cases in street environment facilities to help and support local government developing and applying special features of historical and cultural local images toward street environment facilities in city of Andong. For expression of local image in active installation of street environment facilities will increase tourism and extra value creating self esteem of local people will endures further rapid development of local government. local government seriously consider continuously supporting investment and research in street environment facilities.
