The Effects of Private Income Transfers' Reducing Poverty in Korea (사적 소득이전의 빈곤완화 효과)

  • This study is an empirical research to analyze how many private income transfers in Korea decrease poverty rate, to compare the effects of private income transfers' decreasing poverty rate with income classes. This study has utilised the Family Income and Expenditure Survey to estimate the poverty ratio in urban areas and Unemployment Household Survey which Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs has investigated at 1998. Majour findins are these. First, Sizes of private transfers incomes are much than that of public transfers incomes. The rates in receiving private transfers income are ten times higher than that in receiving public transfers income among urban worker's household. The mean of private transfer income are about six times larger than that of public transfer income among urban worker's household. Second, the effects of private income transfers' reducing poverty rates are not large. After private transfers, urbarn workers' households are about 10 per cent away from its poverty line, and unemploy households are only 3 per cent away from its poverty line. Third, especially, private income transfers are hardly reducing poverty rates among extreme poverty class. After private transfers, urban workers' households which their incomes are within low 5%, are not away from its poverty line at all.

Comparative Evaluation of Dietary Intakes of Calcium, Phosphorus, Iron, and Zinc in Rural, Coastal, and Urban District (농촌, 어촌, 도시 지역별 칼슘, 인, 철, 아연의 섭취상태 비교평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the intake status of calcium, phosphorus, iron, and zinc of Korean adults residing in different regions. Subjects were recruited and divided into three groups according to the districts where they lived, which included rural (n=137), coastal (n=100), and urban district (n=117). Subjects were interviewed using a general questionnaire and 24-hour recall method for dietary intake. The average age of the subjects were 58.1 years for rural district, 57.7 years for coastal district, and 48.6 years for urban district. There was no significance in total food intake by regions. The food intakes from cereals, mushrooms, vegetables of rural district, that from fishes of coastal district, and those from sugars, milks, oils of urban area were the highest among three districts. The calcium, phosphorus, iron, and zinc intakes were $60.1\%,\;123.9\%,\;95.2\%,\;and\;73.1\%$ of RDAs, respectively. The calcium intakes as percentage of RDA in rural and coastal district were significantly (p<0.01) lower than that in urban district. A larger number of subjects from coastal or urban district ate under $75\%$ of zinc RDA compared to those from rural village. Major sources of dietary calcium in total subjects were anchovy, kimchi, milk, soybean curd, rice, ice cream, sea mustard, yogurt, loach, and welsh onion. Rice supplied $15.5\%$ for phosphorus, $22.1\%$ for iron, and $35.9\%$ for zinc of total intake. Except for rice, major sources of dietary zinc were pork, beef, small red bean, dog meat, chicken, jacopever, soybean curd, glutinous millet, and kimchi. In conclusion, the food and mineral intakes of adults differed according to the regions in which they resided. The food and nutrient intakes of coastal district were not satisfactory, and calcium and zinc intakes of three regions did not meet RDAs. Therefore, it is required unique and discriminatory nutritional education with each region for increasing intakes of calcium and zinc.

  • Nowadays, the movement of commercial vehicles has caused severe congestion, environmental problems and damaged pavements in urban area. To solve the Problems, this research has proposed a methodology to build-up a freight network that is enable to manage the movement and demand of commercial vehicles. The network based on urban arterial network has developed according to freight traffic volume that is under the influence of road types among The in study area. Freight network has been developed by assignment method of 4-step transportation forecasting. Once, acceptable limits of freight traffic volume are decided, freight network can be developed using the capacity To confirm the application of the methodology, freight network of Seoul city has developed by the methodology.

  • LiDAR, unlike satellite imagery and aerial photographs, which provides irregularly distributed three-dimensional coordinates of ground surface, enables three-dimensional modeling. In this study, urban area was classified based on 3D information collected by LiDAR. Morphological and spatial properties are determined by the ratio of ground and non-ground point that are estimated with the number of ground reflected point data of LiDAR raw data. With this information, the residential and forest area could be classified in terms of height and density of trees. The intensity of the signal is distinguished by a statistical method, Jenk's Natural Break. Vegetative area (high or low density) and non-vegetative area (high or low density) are classified with reflective ratio of ground surface.

  • Urban household's interest in moving to rural area after retirement have been increasing. Most of them live in rural areal for the sake of pleasant natural environment such as fresh air, clean water. The purpose of the study is to analyse characteristics of them and factors affecting their decision. In 2010, about 27% of urban households wish to migrate to rural area after retirement. The results from the random intercept binary logit model implies that 40~50 age, less high-school graduate and middle-income households are more likely to move. And households are more concerned with residential environment-noise, air, water- than house condition. Also, more people have moved to rural in the region. more households wish to move. It implies that information about urban-to-rural migration and life in rural area affect people's positive attitude to move to rural after their retirement.

A Physical Model Test of Flood Level Changes by the Vegetation on the Floodplain of Urban River (도시하천 둔치내 식생의 평면적 분포에 따른 홍수위 변화의 실험적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of vegetation on the flood plain in the Taewha river on the changes of flood level using a hydraulic physical model experiment. To simulate 9.0 km river, 1/300 horizontally and 1/72 vertically distorted model was used. The vegetation areas were divided by three sub -areas and the flood level changes were examined according to the locations of vegetation as well as the transverse Profile. As a result, the flood level changes were not significantly affected by the densely distributed vegetation. It was concluded that additional adjustable vegetation in urban river could make useful hydrophilic space.

An Estimation of the Congestion Tolls Considering External Costs in Seoul (외부비용을 반영한 도시내 도로의 혼잡통행료 추정: 서울시를 대상으로)

  • This paper formulates the methodologies to estimate optimal congestion tolls from long-run and short-run perspectives and applies them to the highways of Seoul. An optimal long-run congestion toll is estimated with an optimal volume-capacity-ratio to minimize the total costs which consist of two components: road construction and maintenance costs and traveler costs. By contrast, an optimal short-run congestion toll is estimated with a supply-demand equilibrium which is determined by using a speed-flow function and a disaggregate modal choice model. The results of a long-run analysis for the Seobu urban expressway suggest the optimal volume-capacity-ratio of 1.35 and the optimal congestion toll of 503 Won per automobile kilometer. By contrast, those of a short-run analysis for the Mia-ro urban arterial suggest 1.31 and 420 Won, respectively. Although our results are to some degree dependent on the interest rate and time value assumed, one basic conclusion holds up: the congestions toll tested could generate substantial gains in social welfare if applied to Seoul.

Visualization of Regional Mortality Ratios by Major Causes of Death (주요 사망원인에 대한 지역별 사망비율 가시화)

  • The purpose of this paper is to visualize and to analyze differences of regional mortality rates by major causes of death. We use causes of death statistics from KOSIS and compare regional mortality rates divided by national mortality rates by three causes of death. To do this, we define regional mortality ratio and regional age-standardized mortality ratio, and visualized by choropleth map using R. As a result, In case of neoplasm, there was no significant difference by region. In case of circulatory system, Ulsan, Daegu, Busan and Gyungnam showed relatively high regional age-standardized mortality ratio. In case of respiratory system, the ratios were in order of Gangwon, Sejong, and Chungbuk.

  • 이제까지 부활된 정기시장인 원주시 쌍다리 풍물시장의 현황을 관찰, 면담, 설문지를 통하여 많은 문제점과 나름대로의 대안을 살펴보았다. 여러 가지 문제해결의 요소들이 복잡하게 얽혀 있는 쌍다리 풍물시장의 활성화 방안을 살펴보기에 앞서 풍물시장의 이해 관계자들을 살펴보기로 하자. 쌍다리 풍물시장의 이해관계자는 크게 4가지 부류로 나눌 수 있다. 첫째로, 상설상인들을 들 수 있다. 이들은 거리에서 노점상을 했던 도시빈민들이 대부분이며, 설문지에서 나타나듯이 낮은 학력, 소자본 그리고 노령인구층과 여자의 비율이 높다. 이들은 두 가지에 큰 관심을 가지고 있는데, 매장의 소유권과 5일장이다. 매장의 소유권은 이들에게 있어서 큰 희망이며, 5일 장날의 매상은 평소의 $5{\sim}6$배를 웃돌고 있기 때문이다. 또한 풍물시장 번영회라는 그들의 이익을 대변할 수 있는 단체를 구성하고 있으며 이러한 풍물시장 번영회는 상설상인들의 이익을 도모할 수 있는 여러 노력들을 하고 있다. 둘째로는 이동상인들을 들 수 있다. 이들은 장터를 떠돌아 다니며 상행위를 하는 부류로서 상설상인에 비해 상대적으로 고학력과 장년층이 많다. 이들은 5일장의 성쇄와 깊은 관련이 있으나, 5일장이 열리는 상설시장의 발전에는 아무런 흥미가 없다. 즉, 이동상인이 많이 모여드는 곳은 5일장이 크게 번창하지만, 그곳의 장이 패할 기미가 보이면 미련 없이 떠난다. 따라서 보다 많은 이동상인의 유치는 도시 5일장의 성쇄와 깊은 관련이 있다. 셋째로는 시당국을 들 수 있다. 시당국에 의해서 쌍다리 풍물시장은 노점단속에 반발하는 노점상들에 대응하기 위하여 생겨났으며, 5일장 역시 시당국에 의해서 부활된 것이다. 그러나 단기적인 측면만을 고려한 듯한 인상을 풍기는 쌍다리 풍물시장에 대한 행정은 대단히 아쉬운 부분이며 앞으로도 여러 가지 구조적인 문제점의 해결은 시당국에 달려있다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 즉, 풍물시장에 관련된 이해관계자들 중 유일하게 조직과 행정력을 가지고 문제해결을 할 수 있는 주체인 것이다. 넷째로는 풍물시장을 이용하는 소비자를 들 수 있다. 이들은 주로 원주에 살고 있는 사람들이 대다수이며 쌍다리 풍물시장을 이용하는 이유는 저렴한 가격에도 원인이 있지만 민족의 정서가 어려있는 시골장터에 대한 향수 역시 큰 원인으로 꼽을 수 있다. 이러한 점은 소비자 설문에서 구경거리를 위하여 장에 오는 소비자의 비율이 생각 외로 높게 나타남으로써 알 수 있다. 미국을 위시한 선진국들의 시장개방 압력과 우루과이라운드의 등장으로 우리나라는 경제, 사회문화적인 위기에 봉착해 있다. 1960년대 이후 계속되어 온 경제 제일주의 정책으로 우리 민족의 정서와 문화를 보존하는 일에 등한시하여 왔다. 이 때문에 우리 민족 고유의 뿌리를 점차 잃어가고 있다. 이러한 시점에서 도시노점상을 정리하기 위한 목적으로 정부에서 도시 5일장을 개장한 것은 역사의 아이러니라 아니할 수 없다. 이렇게 정부주도로 개장된 5일장이 운영되어 온 지 2년이 되어가고 있다. 개장 초기에는 시에서의 지원도 적극적이고 소비자들의 호응도 좋았으나, 최근에 들어 활성화의 속도가 둔화되면서 도시 5일장의 개념을 재정립할 필요성이 제기되고 있다. 정부의 주도로 시작된 5일장이므로 정부의 적극적인 추진하에 풍물시장 번영회와 활성화 방안을 모색해야 한다. 쌍다리 풍물시장의 5일장을 활성화하기 위하여 도시 5일장의 개념을 ${\ulcorner}$국민들의 생활수준이 향상되고 여가를 즐길 수 있는 여건이 형성되고 있으므로 전통문화(향토문화)를 유지하고 시민들의 정서함양에 기여할 수 있는 여가공간 조성${\lrcorner}$으로 규정해야 한다. 이러한 개념 하에 5일장의 주체를 명확히 하기 위해 시청 지역경제과를 중심으로 지자제의 실시에 발맞춰 지역특색에 맞게 5일장을 활성화하기 위한 전학을 수립해야 한다. 서울대형백화점인 롯데 슈퍼백화점이 송파 큰장터나 그랜드 백화점의 향토물산전의 성공은 도시 5일장의 활성화 가능성을 미루어 짐작할 수 있다.

Effects of Nutrition Knowledge and Food Habits on Nutrient Intake in High School Girl Students (도시 및 농촌 여고생의 영양지식과 식습관이 영양소 섭취에 미치는 영향)

  • This nutritional survey was conducted from July to August 1993, in order to investigate the nutrition knowledge, food habits, nutrient intake, and their correlation of high school girl students living in large city, middle and small city, and rural area. The subjects of this survey were 164 students living in large city, Seoul and Pusan, 289 students living in noddle and small city, Chonju and Iksan-City, and 252 students living in rural area, Samnye-Up and Kimje-Kun, Chonbuk-Province. The results obtained are summarized as follows: The perceived nutrition knowledge of large city, middle and small city, and rural area was 80.1%, 83.9%, and 76.0%, respectively, and their accuracy was 62.0%, 64.2%, 56.3% respectively The nutritional knowledge score of large city, middle and small city, and rural area was 14.90, 16.16, 12.84, respectively. The nutrition knowledge score was significant among large city, middle and small city, and rural area. The correlation coefficient between nutrition knowledge and food habits was significant among large city, and middle and small city students. The food habits score of rural area subjects were lowest. The correlation between food habit and calcium, vitamin 4 and vitamin C were significant among large city girls. In rural students the correlation between food habits and protein, phosphorus, iron, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, and vitamin C was significant.
