본 연구는 대학생의 독서활성화를 위한 방안으로 독서에 대한 대학생의 자발적 참여와 흥미를 유도할 수 있는 실천공동체의 한 유형인 독서토론클럽을 제안한다. 그러기 위해서 혁신적인 실천공동체 프로그램을 운영하고 있는 네덜란드 공공도서관의 실천공동체의 성공사례를 살펴보고, 국내 대학도서관에 실천공동체 성공사례를 적용하는 방안을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 대학도서관에서 실천공동체가 성공적으로 적용되기 위해서는 연결자(connector), 가이드(guide), 선생님(teacher), 대화상대(conversation partner)로서의 사서의 역할이 필요하다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the actual experience in establishing public libraries in I New Town, and then to propose how to build properly public libraries when new towns are constructed. In the case of I New Town, four public libraries were built in good locations but with considerable delay, and one of them was built 18 years after the new town plan was established. Those libraries are relatively bigger than the average public libraries in Korea, but their organizational structures are not ideal at all.

Library marketing receives an attention as one of the methods to vitalize library use and to improve the value of libraries. In this study, librarians' perceptions of library marketing and PR were surveyed. The study also examined various library marketing and PRs that are practiced by special libraries via their web sites. Research library web sites were analyzed using a analytic tool that is composed of four categories and 19 sub categories, which is derived from the previous literature. The four major categories include visibility, fundraising, & networking, information, and communication. The findings of the study offer some suggestions for Internet marketing strategies that can be applicable to digital libraries.

The purpose of this study is to analyze variables affecting the number of circulated books which is one of the indicators representing the library use behavior. For the analysis, 2015-2019 data for public libraries was acquired from the National Library Statistics System. The Latent Growth Model estimating a latent intercept and a latent slop based on the individual library trajectories was applied. The results are as followed; first, the circulation rate tends to be decreased. Second, the most affecting factor on the library circulation decrease was the collection budget. This study suggests increasing a collection budget in order to prevent the library circulation decrease while the library is operating in a daily routine.

This study will explore the possibility of applying process innovation as a public library for business innovation. In order to do this, the study defines the concept of process innovation through the literature review. According to survey and focus group interviews with librarians working for public libraries, this study will organize work done at libraries into the following categories: acquisition, resource management, user management, user services, programs, volunteer management, marketing, library computerization system, facility management, general affairs and statistical management. In addition, through face-to-face surveys with librarians working for public libraries it is confirmed that there are issues within acquisition, user management, and applied process innovation. In response to these issues a new process has been developed. Using this new approach, book contract procedure and requests for book related work could be improved and optimized. In the user management section, the study analyzes the requirements and subscription procedures for members through a website survey of 30 public libraries in the United States and then provides an improved system through process analysis of the membership process of Korean public libraries. It is expected that the new system will contribute to improvements in user satisfaction as well as improvements in library workflow.

To understand the literacy and library users of Korean society, various historical data and statistics were gathered and analyzed. The findings are: 1) lineage, commerce, and religion in ancient Korean society and the social class in Koryo and Lee Dynasty were related to the literacy, and 2) the size of collection, increase of books, library budgets and the policy of national library are also somewhat related to the library hem at present.

This study intends to analyze the integrated search methods in digital libraries environment. To categorize various integration methods, I investigated the developmental properties and integration types of digital libraries from a users point of view. And then, I reviewed the current best practices of library portal which are JISC Information Environment, NSDL OCKHAM and Korea Knowledge Portal Initiatives. Nextly, I derived the two methods of Integrated search mechanisms such as aggregated search and distributed search that is useful in the digital libraries environment.

Evaluation indicators reflecting recent digital environments are needed as a tool to increase research library's competitiveness and productivity. Especially, research libraries have different subject backgrounds and there are many one-person libraries. In this study, we developed new evaluation indicators based on the draft indicators made in 2007 considering these environmental elements so that it may be used easily and applicable to various research libraries. In developing the new indicators, we reviewed other library type's indicators and listened carefully to the comments from expert librarians in the research libraries through several meetings. After developing the indicators, we made a survey in order to verify its validity as well as its effectiveness and also made a test evaluation for research libraries. The proposed indicators will contribute in evaluating the current level of Korean research libraries and promoting them to the future-oriented libraries.
