  • The purpose of this study is to provide an actual basic data and helps for arranging the next generation OPAC's interface and function through improving the existing OPAC's interface and improvement in the domestic library. In this study, factors to be importantly considered for improving the OPAC's interface and function were examined based on the preceding studies on OPAC concept & development process, user's library use style, user use style of OPAC, and recognition on library's crisis, and actual condition investigation result. Also, the case analysis on the existing OPAC's interface and function was focused on the search window, search item, search method, alignment function, search result display and search result feedback. Also, the search interface and search function of the next generation OPAC which is provided by the recently-developed domestic and foreign library utilization, and the detailed case were analyzed in the aspect of Library 2.0 service. Finally, the measures for improving the existing OPAC's interface and function in domestic library were suggested.

  • A school library is where students develop their skills to cope with future uncertainty and can utilize various information materials to build their capability and response abilities to changes. Teachers' perception is crucial as their guidance is essential for the student to use the school library. Most studies, however, focused on quantitative measurement of the importance of the teachers' perception as an external environment, and there is a lack of specific categorization of different types of perceptions on the role of the school library. This study aims to examine types of perceptions about the school library among elementary school teachers. To do so, this study used Latent Profile Analysis (LPA), a person-centered approach, to identify teachers' complex perceptions about the role and importance of the school library, which were difficult to review in previous studies, and the teachers' most representative types of perceptions. Based on the findings from the above, this study is meaningful in proposing customized measures to operate and promote the school library depending on teachers' perceptions.

  • With the perspective of information management, on-going monitoring of the specified service function is one of the major activities and even critical process. The research consisted of three empirical research questions such as, the current usage and overall user-satisfaction, the quality of the R&D information content and the service, and the problems which have been observed by the actual user group of National Digital Science Library (NDSL). The results of the investigation provided several guidelines that can be utilized for the improvements of the R&D information user service as well as some recommendations for overall optimal administration.

  • In spite of various efforts to resolve digital divide of people with disabilities, it still has a long way to go because there lack of identifying information needs of people with disabilities and potential users including their family and the related, and integrated information channels such as a portal, and so on. In this context, this study aims at analyzing the users' unique information behavior and evaluating usability of domestic web information services for people with disabilities which are currently serviced. Increasingly, we suggest new functional requirements of building a library portal for people with disabilities.

  • The objective of this study was to provide the basic information necessary for the efficient library service policy for the graduate students in engineering field as investigating the academic information seeking behavior and demands of users who major in electronic engineering at a graduate program. Literature studies and survey through questionnaire were conducted for the purpose. The established theories were synthetically examined through literature studies, and theoretical systematization and structure for positive research were framed. Graduate students in engineering field were classified into two groups: those who major in electronic engineering and the others, and their demands for information and its seeking behavior were comparatively analyzed in this thesis.

  • In recent years, changes in the university libraries environment have led to increased emphases on improving or restructuring the organizational structures of university libraries. Technology, trends toward access over ownership, user focus, and restructuring in higher education are some of the major factors contributing to these changes. The users' new information retrieving behavior are emerged from the developments in information technology with new media and from the competitive research environments, and thus this trend has led to the gradual increase of collection arrangement by subjects rather than by forms, particularly from 1995 in Korean universities' libraries. Users especially in university libraries who are frequently seeking information on the specific subject, are going to find a room accoinmodating all forms of information on the subject, that is, one-stop information service. As a result, subject division structure have adopted as a new organizational structure in Korea. Our survey shows 34 out of 73 university libraries in Korea is taking this structure of which collections are arranged by subjects, while the rest of them are operating with a traditional organizational structure by forms focusing on keeping of collection management. In the future, university libraries with traditional organizational structure will be moving towards the subject division structure which is a recommended one by this study.

  • This study analyzes the actual use data of the websites of university libraries, analyzes the users' usage behavior, and proposes improvement measures for the websites. The study analyzed users' traffic and analyzed their usage behavior from January 2018 to December 2018 on the C University website. The website's analysis tool used 'Google Analytics'. The web traffic variables were analyzed in five categories: user general characteristics, user environment analysis, visit analysis, inflow analysis, site analysis, and site analysis based on the metrics of sessions, users, page views, pages per session, average session time, and bounce rate. As a result, 1) In the analysis results of general characteristics of users, there was some access to the website not only in Korea but also in China. 2) In the user experience analysis, the main browser type appeared as Internet Explorer. The next place was Chrome, with a bounce rate of Safari, third and fourth, double that of the Explore or Chrome. In terms of screen resolution, 1920x1080 resolution accounted for the largest percentage, with access in a variety of other environments. 3) Direct inflow was the highest in the inflow media analysis. 4) The site analysis showed the most page views out of 4,534,084 pages, followed by the main page, followed by the lending/extension/history/booking page, the academic DB page, and the collection page.

  • This study looks into how hearing-impaired college students use libraries and what their information needs are in order to prepare basic materials which would be applied for developing a library service program and others proper enough to be used by the hearing-impaired college students. In order to achieve the research goal, the study gathered data from a total of 155 hearing-impaired college students through a survey and interviews and a frequency analysis, a cross validation, a t-test and a one-way ANOVA were conducted to analyze the data. At the end of its research, the study confirmed that the hearing-impaired college students' gender, years, degrees of disability, schools, specialties and prosthetic appliances would make significant differences in how the students use the libraries. In addition, the study took a look into differences in the hearing-impaired college students' information needs caused by types of the students' prosthetic appliances, schools and degrees of disability and found out that these types of the prosthetic appliances the students use would significantly affect every category of their information needs. The study now also understands that both the schools and the degrees of disability would make significant differences in a few categories of the information needs, and the former influences education and promotion targeting users and arrangement of sign language interpreters while the latter affects education and promotion targeting users and improvements in browsing environments.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze user behaviors of books in detail based on circulation data in an academic library. It analyzes circulation patterns of books for ten years from 2006 to 2015, which are surprisingly similar every year. Each pattern follows 'Loan books 20/50 rule' that 20% core collection occupies 50% of its circulation every year. This clarifies users' circulation patterns are highly consistent and very expectable. Also, using the cumulative distribution of book age, it defines the half-life of books and suggests the mathematical formula to measure it. Circulation patterns of the whole loan book and core collection for ten years are very different in terms of subjects, user groups, and divisions. This indicates that core collection plays a significant role in analyzing circulation statistics and usage patterns for the efficient collection development in the future.
