The Internet offers a challenging information seeking environment for users due to a great amount of information, heterogeneous objects, and diverse information quality. The purpose of this study was to identify the ways of information seeking, evaluating, and using in the Internet by looking at search behaviors of science and engineering scholars in Korean university. The research problems addressed in the study include the utility of web information, information searching strategies, the extent of search engines usage, and scholarly value of information in the Internet. The data were collected through individual interviews with 28 scholars recruited from science and engineering fields at the Myongji University. It was found that the scholars in this study less likely turn to search engines for finding research information than types of information while they use search engines primarily for searching personal information such as travel and hobbies. This is partly because the scholars believe that the information, especially research-related information, in the Internet lacks the value as scholarly information. They also tend to believe that foreign literature available in the Internet is more credible, professional, and recent than domestic literature. In conclusion, the implications for search engine developers, librarians, and researchers as users and producers in the Internet are discussed.

Visualization of documents will help users when they do search similar documents. and all research in information retrieval addresses itself to the problem of a user with an information need facing a data source containing an acceptable solution to that need. In various contexts. adequate solutions to this problem have included alphabetized cubbyholes housing papyrus rolls. microfilm registers. card catalogs and inverted files coded onto discs. Many information retrieval systems rely on the use of a document surrogate. Though they might be surprise to discover it. nearly every information seeker uses an array of document surrogates. Summaries. tables of contents. abstracts. reviews, and MARC recordsthese are all document surrogates. That is, they stand infor a document allowing a user to make some decision regarding it. whether to retrieve a book from the stacks, whether to read an entire article, etc. In this paper another type of document surrogate is investigated using a grouping method of term list. lising Multidimensional Scaling Method (MDS) those surrogates are visualized on two-dimensional graph. The distances between dots on the two-dimensional graph can be represented as the similarity of the documents. More close the distance. more similar the documents.

This study attempted to explore the characteristics of knowledge communication and investigate important research topics and key authors by analyzing major academic papers in the field of LIS in Korea for five years from 2018 to 2022. The research method collected and analyzed papers published for five years in four key journals in the field of domestic Library and Information Science from the Korean Citation Index (KCI) database. The paper was selected to extract the author data of the paper and the data of the reference, and network visualization was performed by conducting literature co-citation analysis and author co-citation analysis using Netminer. As a result of the analysis, it was possible to derive a pair of co-citations between authors, and it was confirmed that it is important to include multiple authors in the intellectual structure analysis in the academic field through co-citation frequency analysis among researchers. The literature confirmed the correlation between the topics of the paper, and it was found that research related to Library and Information Science was centered on the topics of library, digital, user, service, and data.

The study aims to understand major topics and concerns of gender identity-related questions expressed by the users of the NAVER social Q&A site. To achieve this goal, we analyzed 2,120 questions created from 2010 to 2018 using natural language- and information retrieval-based methods. Results indicated that the major topics discussed by the users include interpersonal relationships, doubts about gender identity, sexual orientation, feelings and relationships, and concerns about gender identity. In addition, users mainly expressed concerns regarding general issues of gender identity; sexual orientation; negative cognition about gender identity; confession, coming-out, homosexuality; future, heterosexual relationships, military enlistment; and causes of gender identity confusion. The present study effectively derives information needs from real-world concerns about sexual identity by employing topic modeling techniques, and by comparing the advantages of exact match and tf-idf-based information retrieval methods extends methodology of Library and Information Science. Further, it has contributed to the academic maturity of the study of information behavior by observing the information needs or information-seeking behaviors of online community users with specific interests.

The purpose of this study is to analyze undergraduate nursing students' electronic document use and reading behavior. To do this, a survey questionnaire was collected from 509 respondents who experienced reading behavior for the last semester. The results of this study show that nursing students' preference of electronic documents is higher than that of printed documents in general. They also prefer electronic documents to printed documents when they want to keep documents. Of respondents, about 94% or higher spent 30mins or more to find information and the main source to find information is 'Naver' search engine as the highest information source, and the place to access information is 'Home' as their highest information access location. In particular, the preference of the document 'on the move' is electronic documents and the main reason includes convenience and easiness to access and move the documents. The findings of this study expect to facilitate the understanding of undergraduate nursing students electronic document use and reading behavior so that it can be used to design and develop medical digital library services and tools more effectively and efficiently in medical area in the future. Furthermore, it expects to provide useful data in promoting user services in digital library in a whole.
