This study attempted to analyse the collections of public libraries in terms of their subject distribution and currency. It was expected that the analysis would give public librarians some suggestions as to their collection development policy making. This study team selected 423 Korean public libraries across the country and scrutinized the collections by their classes of Korean Decimal Classification(KDC) and publishing years. The study results indicated that there was some subject disproportion in public library collections. Literature and social sciences were accounting for 54.8% of whole collections. Currency of collections of public libraries could be said relatively excellent. It was found that 64.9% of whole collections had been published after 2000.

The continuous accumulation of printed materials prompts rethinking of library space problem and systematic preservation of library collection. To respond to this challenge, this study provides actionable models for the National Repository library and the Cooperative Repository Network. The development of the models is based on the analysis of overseas best practices as well as data derived from current state of public library cooperative network administered by the National Library of Korea. This study also offers a range of strategies for the operation of repository library system.

As an attempt to grasp the current situation of traditional Korean books scattered about in the world, this study has bibliographically analyzed first of all traditional Korean books as well as old Korean maps and atlases, and topography descriptions collected by L. C.. Traditional Korean books have been analyzed classified by subject, printing or manuscript, and the kind of edition. Historical development in the compilation of geographical materials during the Chosun Dynasty has been studied. Especially on old Korean maps and atlases bibliographical characteristics have been researched. Accordingly. the foundation has been laid not only for the study on the bibliographical characteristics and the current situation of traditional Korean books and old Korean maps and atlases but also for the comparative analysis on traditional Korean books in Korea with the ones collected by L.C.

법원도서관은 재판사무를 지원하기 위하여 도서, 기타 도서관 자료 및 사법자료를 수집ㆍ정리ㆍ보존ㆍ편찬ㆍ발간하며, 도서관자료 및 사법자료에 관한 정보제공과 도서관 봉사의 역할을 수행하고 있는 전문도서관으로, 서울에 있는 법원도서관을 중심으로 각 지방법원, 사법연수원도서실 등 전국적으로 24개의 도서실에 총 22만권의 도서(이 중 19만권이 법률도서)를 소장하고 있다.

기존의 도서관은 이용자의 다양한 정보욕구와 정보량의 증가, 컴퓨터기술 및 정보통신기술의 획기적 발달에 따라 머지 않은 장래에 디지털 도서관으로 변신할 것이다. 그러나 소장자료의 디지털화는 많은 제약과 문제점이 있기 때문에 이에 대한 체계적인 검토와 방안이 마련되지 않을 때에는 디지털화자체가 이루어지지 않을 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 도서관 소장자료를 디지털화하는데 야기될 수 있는 문제점을 조사하고, 그 해결점을 제시한다.

Libraries which have a large amount of genealogical materials need to manage them in a special way differing from the other materials. Although genealogy related materials have high pragmatic value, the reality is that the acquiring methods are limited to collect the genealogical table or is not systematic. Even the genealogical materials held in the library are not rationally organized. Under such circumstances, this study investigates the cases of the management of genealogical materials both in domestic and foreign institutions, and also examines the real situations of material organization such as the collection, the classification and the cataloging on the centering of the libraries which hold a large amount of genealogical materials. On the basis of this investigation, the study aims to measure the enhancement of the methods for collecting and organizing genealogical materials which enable the collection management and information retrieval fur them to be efficient and effective.
