본 연구는 서울시 구립도서관의 건립현황과 운영현황을 파악하는 것이다. 면담과 설문지방법이 사용되었으며 설문지는 총 432부가 배포되어 85.4%가 회수되었다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 1) 서울시 전체 25개 구 중 공공도서관이 없는 10개 구에 구립도서관이 건립될 예정되었다. 2) 2000년 현재 구립도서관이 완공된 곳은 3개 구이며, 5개 구는 건립이 추진 중에 있고, 나머지 2개 구는 건립계획을 보류 또는 중단되었다. 3) 사서조사를 토？ 구립도서관에서 제공하는 봉사에 대한 현황을 파악되었다. 4) 이용자 조사를 통해 구립도서관의 이용환경이 이용자의 요구와 필요에 어느정도 부합되고 있는지, 그리고 구립도서관은 사회교육기관으로서 그 역할을 어느정도 충실히 이행하고 있는지 그 현황을 파악하였다. 5) 조사결과를 근거로 앞으로 구립도서관의 발전방향에 대한 제안을 제시하였다.

This study aims to explore the significance of homework help service as a library program to support young people in the community and investigate the characteristics of homework help services in U.S. public libraries. It reviews the previous literature on the cases and trend of homework help services in U.S. public libraries. It also investigates the practice and characteristics of homework help services using an email survey targeting public libraries that offer the services. The results are analyzed in terms of the user, collection, space, public relations and human resources of homework help services. This study may contribute to eliciting the service plan on homework help service in its planning and implementation stage in public libraries.

새로운 정보환경과 기술변화로 도서관 시스템에도 많은 요구변화가 생겨나게 되었다. 이와 같은 변화의 대안으로 나타나고 있는 것이 오픈소스 소프트웨어(Open Source Software)다. 해외에서는 도서관 오픈소스 소프트웨어의 필요에 의해 현재 발전.보급되고 있는 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 국내 관종별(공공, 대학, 전문)도서관의 도서관 시스템 현황과 해외 오픈소스 소프트웨어보급 및 판매 현황을 조사하여 분석하였다. 현황조사와 분석결과를 통해 국내 도서관의 오픈소스 소프트웨어 도입의 필요성을 제기하고자 한다.

Most university libraries in Korea have expanded the subscription of high-quality electronic resources in their amount and category, which are directly available to academic and research users via the web. Despite more than a decade's history, however, a lack of statistics made it difficult to get the overall pictures of electronic resources subscription status in Korea. The purpose of this study is to provide the analysis on nationwide statistics survey of how much money are spent on electronic resources, what kinds of subject resources are mainly subscribed, and how they are used and required by academic users, etc. Some comparisons are made with several factors that have effect on collection development of university libraries. This study will contribute to the future selection and subscription of electronic resources.

‘도서관문화’ 편집실에서 올해부터 그동안 잘 알지 못했던 해외도서관들의 사정을 알아보고 이를 통해 국내도서관들이 더 넓은 지평을 열어갈 수 있도록 ‘해외도서관 사정’코너를 신설하였다. 첫 해외도서관 사정을 올해 8월 국제도서관협회연맹 대회(WLIC)를 개최하게 될 아르헨티나로 정하였다. 본 내용은 (재)한국출판연구소에서 2002년 12월에 출판 연구 자료로 펴낸 ‘세계 주요국의 도서관 및 도서 현황 조사 자료집’ 중 제9장 ‘아르헨티나의 도서관 및 독서(번역가 정창)’ pp. 161-169를 요약한 것이다.
