Korean society is faced with various new problems arising from the development projects of new towns, industrial cities, large-scale residential complexes, etc. started from the 1970s. Particularly with the construction of residential and industrial complexes by the roadsides, they are openly exposed to road traffic noise and vibration. Thus, the objective of this study is to examine using noise maps how increasing traffic volume affects road traffic noise and what problems it causes in areas where new towns or complexes are constructed by development projects. According to the results of this study, in areas around the sites of development projects, the noise level increased by road traffic noise compared to that before development and was 1.16~6.92 times higher than the environmental noise standard, but measures to reduce road traffic noise was lukewarm. In addition, areas with soundproof facilities showed a noise level 1~3 step lower than other areas, and in individual buildings, the noise level on the side facing the road was 1~2 step higher than that on the rear side.
Since 1970's rapid urbanization and economic growth, the population was highly increased and residential type was changed from single detached house to high density and high-rise apartment. Recently more high-rise residential building generates more traffic volumes and it makes spatial concentration. The highly traffic volumed road and high residential building was constructed nearby, it occurs noise problem. The purpose of this study is comparing the performance of three type noise barrier between noise source and receiver using a noise map simulation. Three types were composed as road side planting trees, building side planting trees and noise barrier wall. Planting trees is less effective than noise barrier wall as a noise barrier. And they are all effective under 3 stories than over 5 stories, especially noise barrier function can't work over 5 stories.
Traffic noise is a kind of noise caused by cars, trains and aircraft. Among them, noise produced by cars is the most important factor in cities. According to the National Institute of Environmental Research(NIER)'s survey, Road traffic noise levels in Susan are the highest of all the cities in Korea. So, appropriate measures for road traffic noise reduction is required. For this purpose, the construction of a noise map in Susan will playa vital role. However, road traffic noise formulas are constructed considering regional characteristics such as each country road's environment and vehicle quality. Therefore, prior to constructing a noise map in Susan, examination processes about each formula constituent status and estimation process are required preferentially. In this research, the basic first stage is to estimate Susan's road traffic noise. First, investigate characteristics of each road traffic noise estimate and using this, a noise map is constructed for road traffic noise in Susan. Then the adaptation of a road traffic noise formula is evaluated.
This paper represents the statistical characteristics of sources and receptors for road traffic noise in apartment complex. Also we suggested that the site-specific characteristics of vertical and horizontal distributions in the complex apartment have been derived using a different analysis for evaluating levels of Leq1h by the apartment floor at a given distance from a road in terms of the flow rate, the mean speed of the traffic, and the percentage of the type vehicles in the day and night periods. As a result, the contribution orders of traffic quantity by the type of vehicles showed as followed: light vehicle>medium vehicle>heavy vehicle>motorcycle. Especially, the mixing ratio of entering the road on the heavy vehicle in the daytime was two times higher than that of in the night. The speed in all types of vehicle is in the range of 41 and 81 km/hr and noise level was not significantly different in day and night-time. The sources of road traffic noise had different variations and uncertainties using a random variable and probability distribution. The sound distribution to receptors by the apartment floor showed S curve between 1st floor and $15^{th}$ floor With the normality test, the normal distributions using Anderson-Darling Test followed $1^{st},\;3^{th},\;13^{th}$ and $15^{th}$, floor in the daytime and all floors except $7^{th}$ floor in the night (p>0.05). And also, the value of the pearson correlation coefficient (r) obtained in this study have significantly different at the range of floor. In conclusion, the results suggested that the distribution characteristics of levels of $Leq_{1h}$ on the sources and receptors of road traffic noise in apartment complex must be improved and developed on the guideline of regulation of road traffic noise.
Recently the road traffic noise has appeared as a significant environmental issue because of dramatic increase of vehicles and expansion of newly constructed road. Therefore, this study proposes the method that improves prediction factors and models through analysis of the existing road traffic noise prediction model. Prediction factors can be improved by establishing guideline for diffraction attenuation and applying daily traffic discharge, peak traffic discharge, and average traveling speed through an analysis of level service. Prediction must be made by periods of one or five years during 20 years. Prediction models also can be improved to include better prediction model through setting the database, establishing functional relation between physical properties and noise levels by acoustic analysis, and developing models for road traffic noise prediction in residential areas.
When houses or buildings are adjacent to roads, with no effective prevention of road traffic noise, neighbors are exposed to it. It is important to understand the properties of sound propagation before taking a countermeasure against road traffic noise. It is easy to estimate the properties of sound propagation without obstacles, but very difficult and complex to estimate them with ones. The purpose of this study is to present a useful tool that can estimate the properties of sound propagation. In the beginning of this study, we investigated the attenuation of road traffic noise with two pillar buildings, and presented practical approximate calculation method, and verified that through scale model. The outcomes from this study are as follows : (1) Over second reflection sound waves can be ignored. (2) Diffraction sound waves that happen when reflection sound and first diffraction wave are projected at the wedge of other building can be ignored.
Driving tests using model plastic piles with different hammer cushion materials were performed in order to evaluate the efficiency of energy transfer ratio from the hammer, degree of vibration of the surrounding ground and noise due to impacting. A small pile driving analyzer (PDA) was composed using straingages and Hopkinson bar which is measuring force signal and pile-head velocity. The hammer cushion (cap block) materials used for the model driving tests were commercial Micarta, plywood, polyurethane, rubber (SBR) and silicone rubber. The highest energy transfer ratio was obtained from Micarta in the same soil and driving conditions. Micarta was followed by polyurethane, plywood, rubber and silicone in descending order. The more efficient energy transfdr ratio of the hammer cushion materials became, the bigger average noisy (sound) level was found. In addition, Micarta and polyurethane provided bigger bearing capacities than other materials compared in the same soil and driving conditions in which the static loading tests were performed at the end of driving.

South Korea has achieved economic development rapidly during last 50 years. However, such fast economic development with industrialization caused skyrocketing increase of automobiles. The increase of automobile has created various problems in the cities. Problems like traffic congestion and accident, environmental pollution, noise, and vibration have done human beings, who are the principal agents harm. They have made citizens understand how important Green transportation, especially pedestrian movement, is. Recently, installation of pedestrian facilities has been expanded. If walking facilities are incorrectly designed, they can create inconvenience, danger and the state of emergency due to the lack of safety and pleasant feelings. However, since the importance of the facility designs has been neglected due to the lack of understanding, it is hard to improve the facilities. Therefore, we need various studies of walking simulation in order to research the designs for pedestrians' safety and convenience. The objective of this study is to analyze the pedestrians' behavior and movement in a transfer subway station. The improvement of walking environment was made after chasing and analyzing the pedestrians' movement which is investigated in the actual field using SimWalk simulation program.
As recent traffic policy focuses on reduction of congestion and environmental contamination, with a catch phrase, 'Green Traffic', Low Carbon Green Growth' and 'Sustainable Development', introducing the new eco-friendly transport means including railway has been emerging as critical issue. Included in the new transport means are BRT, Bimodal Tram and LRT, and this study was intended to evaluate and analyze Bimodal, among others, which generates less emission, noise and vibration thanks to hybrid type traction system employed by Bimodal Tram, which is considered a future-oriented system because of eco-friendly features and cost efficiency as well as punctuality and convenient accessibility to bus. Thus in this study, appropriateness of Bimodal Tram comparing to other system(BRT) was suggested, using conversion traffic from the road, traffic speed and CO2 emission at the metropolitan area and large provincial areas as the barometer in evaluation, and furthermore, the measures applicable to introduction strategy that will meet various functional aspects in urban area in the coming days were developed.

The purpose of this study is to reveal how the road traffic noise influences on the response of teachers and students, which composed of conversation, studying, relaxation, and physical disturbances. The research method used in this study was self-administrated questionnaire. Samples of the survey were composed of 420 persons(114 teachers and 306 students) who are exposed to traffic noise less than 65 dB(A) from two junior high schools and 410 persons(140 teachers and 270 students) from two noisy junior high schools which the road traffic noise above 65 dB(A). In the response of both of the teachers and students in noisy(above 65 dB) schools complaints of disturbances of conversation, studying, relaxation, and physical disturbances are much higher than that of less noisy schools' teachers and students(p<0.01). On the occasion of time and season, the subjects answered the traffic noise cause high troublesome and stresses in the afternoon(12:00 - 17:00) and summer respectively. It is necessary to provide governmental comprehensive and fundamental measures to improve the noisy school environments.
