A Study on the Classification of Road Type by Mixture Model (혼합모형을 이용한 도로유형분류에 관한 연구)

  • Road classification system is the first step for determining the road function and design standards. Currently, roads are classified by various indices such as road location and function. In this study, we classify road using various traffic indices as well as to identify traffic characteristics for each type of road. To accomplish the objectives, mixture model was applied for classifying road and analyzing traffic characteristics using traffic data that observed at permanent traffic count stations. A total of 8 variables were applied: annual average daily traffic(AADT), $K_{30}$ coefficient, heavy vehicle proportion, day volume proportion, peak hour volume proportion, sunday coefficient, vacation coefficient, and coefficient of variation(COV). A total of 350 permanent traffic count points were categorized into three groups : Group I (Urban road), Group II (Rural road), and Group III (Recreational road). AADT were 30,000 for urban, 16,000 for rural, and 5,000 for recreational road. Group III was typical recreational road showing higher average daily traffic volume during Sunday and vacational periods. Group I showed AM peak and PM peak, while group II and group III did not show AM peak and PM peak.

Grouping method on functional classification for national highway (국도 기능 분류를 위한 그룹핑 방법론에 관한 연구)

  • 도로의 그룹핑(Grouping)이란 도고 계획, 설계, 관리, 조사 계획 및 정비 방침 등을 세우기 위해 유사한 성격의 도로 구간을 군집화하는 방법이다. 기존에 일반적으로 적용되고 있는 도로 그룹핑 방법은 그룹 수를 미리 지정함으써 분석가의 주관적 판단이 개입되었고, 그룹핑 변수 선정에 대한 근거가 부족하였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 기존에 일반적으로 적용되고 있는 도로 그룹핑 방법을 개선하여 새로운 방법론을 제시하였다. 또한 새로 제시된 방법론의 검증을 위해 도로 교통량 통계연보에서 제공하고 있는 일반국도의 2000년 294개 상시조사 지전의 교통량 자료를 이용하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과 기존의 월, 요일 변동계수만을 적용한 그룹핑 방법보다는 기타 교통지표(AADT, $\Sigma$K1000(K값의 상위 1000번 순위까지의 누적 값), 중차량 비율, 주야율)를 동시에 적용할 때 좀 더 효율적이면서 세부적으로 분류됨을 알 수 있었다. 또한 기타 교통지표론 적당한 그룹핑 결과로는 5그룹의 국도 기능 분류가 가능함을 알 수 있었다. 그 결과 기존의 소재지역과 기능에 따른 국토의 구분을 지방 산업도로 그룹, 지역 간선도로 그룹, 대도시 주변형 도로 그룹, 중소도시 주변형 및 관광도로 그룹, 관광도로 그룹으로 분류할 수 있었다. 본 연구에서의 도로 그룹핑 결과에 각 지역특성을 추가하여 분석한다면 도로의 계획, 선계, 관리 등에 매우 유용한 자료로 활용되리라 예상한다. 또한 본 연구의 결과를 이용하면 좀 더 효율적으로 설계시간계수 선정, 전역 조사 지점의 AADT추정, 상시 교통량 조사 자료의 누락 데이터 보정 및 교통량 조사의 스케줄링에 많이 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • 교통영향평가는 1985년 서울시에서 실시된 이후 사업 시행자에 의해 개발지 주변 도로 교통상황을 개선하는데 크게 기여하여 왔으며 향후 이러한 교통유발 원인자 부담원칙 에 의한 교통개선체제는 지방 자치화 시대를 맞이하여 계속 유지될 전망이다. 하지만 교통 영향 평가시 도로개선의 판단 기중이 되는 개발에 따른 교통발생 예측량이 평가자에 따라 상이한 결과가 나타나고 이에 따른 상이한 주변 도로 서비스수준(LOS)이 도출되어 합리적 교통처리 방안 제시에 문제가 되고 있다. 이러한 문제는 광역적 교통량 예측 프로그램 이 용, 상이한 통행 발생원단위 사용, 그리고 일률적 교통량 예측범위에 기인한다. 따라서 본 연구는 교통영향 평가시 국내와 미국의 교통량 예측 방법 비교·분석을 통해 합리적 교통량 예측방법을 제시하였다.

Estimation of the VKT(vehicle kilometers traveled) in Urban Areas using Regression Kriging (회귀크리깅 기법을 이용한 도시부 차량주행거리 산정)

  • Network performance measure has been more and more important in transportation sector because traffic congestion has been steadily increasing in urban area. VKT is defined a sum of traveled distances of whole vehicles on the road network and one of the most important measure of effectiveness (MOE) for network performance measure. This paper aims to propose a methodology for estimating VKT and to apply it to calculate VKT in 6 major cities in Korea. We calculate VKT in 6 major cities by estimating traffic volumes on the uncollected road sections using regression kriging. It is expected that the proposed methodology can be applied various cities.

Estimation of Total Travel Time for a Year on National Highway Link with AADT (연평균 일일교통량을 이용한 일반국도구간 연간 총통행시간 추정 방법 개발)

  • The estimation of total travel time on highway link for a day or year is the most important process for the feasibility analysis of highway or railway. Most of current guidelines for feasibility studies have been based on the time-traffic volume relationship from the BPR, and the traffic volumes have been determined by the application of the design hour factor to the annual average daily traffic volume. Both of the BPR function and the application of the design hour volume may result in the over-estimation of travel time due to the fact that the traffic volume on the large portion of highway links in Korea are close to the capacities. This study proposed a new way which is based on the distribution of hourly volumes for a year. It could be closer to the real situation, and provide more reasonable estimation. This methodology was validated for the national highways, but may be applicable for any type of highway with the AADT.

Classification of Urban Arterial Roads Based on Traffic Characteristics (교통특성에 따른 도시간선도로 위계분류법)

  • Studies on classification of national roads have been continued, but there is little research on the classification of urban arterial roads. Due to the increase of traffic volume, urban arterial roads do not perform well as main roads. In this paper, the function of urban arterial road was established by using cluster analysis using traffic characteristics. Traffic characteristics such as traffic volume, weekend coefficient and speed coefficient were used to establish the functions of 55 main arterial roads in Seoul. The results of this paper are compared with those of the method using AADT. The method using AADT classifies the characteristics according to the traffic volume of the whole lane. In this paper, however, the results are derived using the traffic volume per lane reflecting the actual traffic volume. In addition, the functional classification of the arterial roads in Seoul was compared with the results of this paper to verify that the traffic characteristics were reflected. As a result, the method presented in this paper is more effective in showing traffic characteristics than the current highway functional classification method, and the functional classification system will be helpful for road extension and planning design.

A Survey On Speed-Flow Relationship Under Congested Conditions (과포화교통류에서 속도-교통량 관계에 관한 조사연구)

  • 기존 도로시설을 최대로 이용하고 교통의 흐름을 질적으로 향상시키기 위해서는 과포화 상태를 고려한 교통시설운영방법을 개선할 필요가 있다. 속도-교통량관계는 교통시설운영의 평가와 서비스수준 산정을 위한 주요 판단기준이 된다. 본 논문에서는 경부고속도로 종점부 구간의 현장조사를 통해 과포화상태의 속도-교통량 관계를 조사 분석하였고 그 결과 다음 몇 가지 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 한국도로용량편람을 비롯한 우리 나라 연구결과는 일반적으로 50km/hr 일 때 용량상태가 나타난다고 알려져 있으나 본 조사결과에 의하면 약 85km/hr 정도에서 용량상태가 발생함을 관측할 수 있었다. 둘째, 과포화구간에서 속도에 따른 통과교통량 증감추이는 대기행렬 증가시 급격한 속도-교통량의 감소가 있는 반면에 대기행렬해소시 속도-교통량의 증가는 완만하게 회복됨을 보였다. 셋째, Ontario 고속도로의 경우와 본 조사연구결과는 비교해본 결과 과포화시 한국의 경우 미국과 동일한 통행속도에서 더 많은 교통량이 통행하는 것으로 확인되었다.

A Study on Road Traffic Volume Survey Using Vehicle Specification DB (자동차 제원 DB를 활용한 도로교통량 조사방안 연구)

  • Currently, the permanent road traffic volume surveys under Road Act are conducted using a intrusive Automatic Vehicle Classification (AVC) equipments to classify 12 categories of vehicles. However, intrusive AVC equipment inevitably have friction with vehicles, and physical damage to sensors due to cracks in roads, plastic deformation, and road construction decreases the operation rate. As a result, accuracy and reliability in actual operation are deteriorated, and maintenance costs are also increasing. With the recent development of ITS technology, research to replace the intrusive AVC equipment is being conducted. However multiple equipments or self-built DB operations were required to classify 12 categories of vehicles. Therefore, this study attempted to prepare a method for classifying 12 categories of vehicles using vehicle specification information of the Vehicle Management Information System(VMIS), which is collected and managed in accordance with Motor Vehicle Management Act. In the future, it is expected to be used to upgrade and diversify road traffic statistics using vehicle specifications such as the introduction of a road traffic survey system using Automatic Number Plate Recognition(ANPR) and classification of eco-friendly vehicles.

Development of Dynamic Traffic Information System based on GPS Technology (GPS 기술기반의 동적 도로소통정보시스템 개발)

  • There are many problems and limits in equipments being used for traffic-volume analysis in the country. And traffic-volume information acquired through existing equipments is not provided in real-time. In the case of urban, there are limits on guarantee of trust on comprehending a appropriate road-volume because of difficulty on analyzing traffic-volume density and time series. And it is difficult to applicate in deciding a road policy as existing equipments don't provide the control information of traffic-flow. Therefore, it is necessary to build a road-flow policy rapidly and accurately through the road-flow information that analyze post-processed statistics data using traffic-flow investigation based on real time. In this study, we developed TICS(Traffic Information Collection System) based on GPS which could transmit traffic information transformed from car location information to traffic control center. And we developed TCS(Traffic Control System) based on Web GIS, which could manage and analyze transmitted traffic information, and it could offer handled road-flow information to Web-site in realtime.

A Study on the Traffic Volume Correction and Prediction Using SARIMA Algorithm (SARIMA 알고리즘을 이용한 교통량 보정 및 예측)

  • In this study, a time series analysis technique was applied to calibrate and predict traffic data for various purposes, such as planning, design, maintenance, and research. Existing algorithms have limitations in application to data such as traffic data because they show strong periodicity and seasonality or irregular data. To overcome and supplement these limitations, we applied the SARIMA model, an analytical technique that combines the autocorrelation model, the Seasonal Auto Regressive(SAR), and the seasonal Moving Average(SMA). According to the analysis, traffic volume prediction using the SARIMA(4,1,3)(4,0,3) 12 model, which is the optimal parameter combination, showed excellent performance of 85% on average. In addition to traffic data, this study is considered to be of great value in that it can contribute significantly to traffic correction and forecast improvement in the event of missing traffic data, and is also applicable to a variety of time series data recently collected.
