Development of Air Flow Simulator in Agricultural Facility based on Virtual Reality (가상현실 기반 농업시설 공기유동 시뮬레이터의 개발)

  • Using virtual reality technology, users can learn and experience many interactions in virtual space like the actual physical space. This study was conducted to develop air flow simulator that allows farmers and consultants to consult air flow through VR devices by creating a greenhouse or pigpen model. It can help educate farmers about the importance of ventilation effects for agricultural facilities. We proposed CFD visualization system by building a virtual reality environment and constructing database of CFD and structure of agricultural facilities. After consultants can set up situations according to environmental conditions, the users experience the visualized air flow of agricultural facility according to the ventilation effects. Also it can provide a quantified environmental distribution in the agricultural facility. Currently, the CFD data in agricultural facilities are established during winter and summer. In order to experience various environmental conditions in the developed system, The experts need to run CFD data under various environmental conditions and register them in the system requirements.

A Study on the legal system to trace the bycaught whale and dolphin meat in the market (혼획 고래 유통 이력 추적을 위한 제도 개선 방안 연구)

  • Whaling has been banned in Republic of Korea after the declaration of the moratorium on the commercial whaling by the International Whaling Commission (IWC) since 1986. Korean government followed the moratorium immediately. However whale meat market has been kept by the bycaught whales and dolphins. So Korean government established a rule to control and trace whale meat in the market in 2011. The rule has some loopholes to allow illegally taken whale meat smuggle into the market. This study investigates the flaws in the current rule and recommend the way to overcome that defects. The first step is to prevent the entry of the illegal whale meat into the market. Minor change of the current law would be a solution. The next measure is to increase the sampling rate of the whale DNA that allowed to distribute in the market. The DNA database would be a powerful tools to identify illegal whale meat which is existing in the market. Korean government is operating three kind of food traceability systems. However, because of the legal limitations and the opposition of the non-governmental animal rights organizations, it is difficult to include whale meat to the existing systems. So the last step is to establish a new Traceability System with a state-of-the-art IT technology like as blockchain. The three measures mentioned above would increase the transparency in the whale meat market and prevent the entry of the illegal products.

Evolution of Bias-corrected Satellite Rainfall Estimation for Drought Monitoring System in South Korea (한반도지역 가뭄 모니터링 활용을 위한 위성강우 편의보정)

  • Drought monitoring is the important system for disasters by climate change. To perform this, it is necessary to measure the precipitation based on satellite rainfall estimation. The data developed in this study provides two kinds of satellite data (raw satellite data and bias-corrected satellite data). The spatial resolution of satellite data is 10 km and the temporal resolution is 1 day. South Korea was selected as the target area, and the original satellite data was constructed, and the bias-correction method was validated. The raw satellite data was constructed using TRMM TMPA and GPM IMERG products. The GRA-IDW was selected for bias-correction method. The correlation coefficient of 0.775 between 1998 and 2017 is relatively high, and TRMM TMPA and GPM IMERG 10 km daily rainfall correlation coefficients are 0.776 and 0.753, respectively. The BIAS values were found to overestimate the raw satellite data over observed data. By using the technique developed in this study, it is possible to provide reliable drought monitoring to Korean peninsula watershed. It is also a basic data for overseas projects including the un-gaged regions. It is expected that reliable gridded data for end users of drought management.

Research Areas and Trends in Articles on Pediatric and Adolescent Tuberculosis in Korea (국내 소아청소년 결핵 관련 논문의 연구 영역과 동향)

  • Purpose: Despite the decline in tuberculosis (TB) incidence and mortality rates in the Republic of Korea through a national TB control program, TB remains one of the most critical infectious diseases in Korean children. We investigated the trends and research areas of published articles on TB in Korean children and adolescents. Methods: In 6 Korean and overseas databases, we searched titles and abstracts including "tuberculo*" or "TB," "child*" or "adolescen*" or "neonat*" or "infant*" or "pediatric*," and "korea*." The publication type, publication year, research areas, journal title, and research subjects were analyzed. Results: Out of the 257 searched documents, 120 papers were included in the analysis. Of these, 82 were original articles (68.3%), 33 case reports (27.5%), 4 review articles (3.3%), and 1 guideline (0.8%). In the original articles, the most common subject of studies was the clinical characteristics of patients with TB (36.6%), followed by diagnostics (29.3%), contact investigations (9.8%), epidemiology (6.1%), treatment (4.9%), vaccine (3.6%), latent TB infection (3.6%), complications (3.6%), and surveys on perception of TB (2.4%). From 1962, 4 articles were published in the 1960s, 10 articles in the 1970s, 11 articles in the 1980s, 22 articles in the 1990s, 26 articles in the 2000s, and 47 articles since 2010. Conclusions: The amount of research on TB in Korean children has increased over the past 5 decades; however, it has mainly focused on the clinical characteristics and diagnostics. Research in different areas, such as treatment and vaccine, is needed in the future.

RFID Tag Search Protocol Preserving Privacy of Reader Holders (이동형 리더 소지자의 프라이버시를 보호하는 RFID 태그 검색 프로토콜)

  • RFID tag search system which is used to find a specific tag has an application such as asset management, supply chain, and this search scheme has been given much attention so far. In RFID tag search system, especially, mobility of the reader is important in order to search tags. Therefore, even though the handheld reader cannot connect with the central database because of unreliable wireless connection or remote location, handheld reader should search the specific tag without help of the central database. In addition, in RFID tag search system, users hold not the tag but the reader, the privacy of users should be considered. Since the signal strength of the reader is stronger than that of the tag, the privacy of the reader holder is very important. Recently, in order to solve these problems, a number of RFID tag search schemes have been proposed. However, since these schemes did not consider the privacy of reader holders, there are serious privacy breaches of reader holders. In this paper, we propose efficient RFID tag search protocol for passive tags. Our proposed scheme preserves the privacy of reader holders.

  • For extrusion processes in the process industry, the need to build smart factories is increasing. However, in most extrusion production sites, the production method is continuous, and because the properties of the data are undeed, it is difficult to process the data. In order to solve this problem, we present a methodology utilizing a near field communication (NFC) sensor rather than water-based data entry. To this end, a wireless network environment was built, and a data management method was designed. A non-contact NFC method was studied for the production performance-data input method, and an analysis method was implemented using the pivot function of the Excel program. As a result, data input using NFC was automated, obtaining a quantitative effect from reducing the operator's data processing time. In addition, using the input data, we present a case where a bottleneck is improved due to quality problems.

Development of a Server-independent System to Identify and Communicate Fire Information and Location Tracking of Evacuees (화재정보 확인과 대피자 위치추적을 위한 서버 독립형 시스템 개발)

  • If a fire breaks out in a building, occupants can evacuate more rapidly if they are able to identify the location of the fire, the exits, and themselves. This study derives the requirements of system development, such as distance non-limitation, a non-additional device, a non-centralized server system, and low power for an emergency, to identify information about the fire and the location of evacuees. The objective is to receive and transmit information and reduce the time and effort of the database for location tracking. Accordingly, this study develops a server-independent system that collects information related to a building fire and an evacuee's location and provides information to the evacuee on their mobile device. The system is composed of a transmitting unit to disseminate fire location information and a mobile device application to determine the locations of the fire and the evacuee. The developed system can contribute to reducing the damage to humans because evacuees can identify the location of the fire, exits, and themselves regardless of the impaired server system by fire, the interruption of power source, and the evacuee's location. Furthermore, this study proposes a theoretical basis for reducing the effort required for database construction of the k-nearest neighbor fingerprint.

Degree Programs in Data Science at the School of Information in the States (미국 정보 대학의 데이터사이언스 학위 현황 연구)

  • This preliminary study examined the degree programs in data science at the School of Information in the States. The focus of this study was the data science degrees offered at the School of Information awarded by the 64 Library and Information Science (LIS) programs accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) in 2022. In addition, this study examined the degrees, majors, minors, specialized tracks, and certificates in data science, as well as the potential careers after earning a data science degree. Overall, eight Schools of Information (iSchools) offered 12 data science degrees. Data science courses at the School of Information focus on topics such as introduction to data science, information retrieval, data mining, database, data and humanities, machine learning, metadata, research methods, data analysis and visualization, internship/capstone, ethics and security, user, policy, and curation and management. Most schools did not offer traditional LIS courses. After earning the data science degree in the School of Information, the potential careers included data scientists, data engineers and data analysts. The researcher hopes the findings of this study can be used as a starting point to discuss the directions of data science programs from the perspectives of the information field, specifically the degrees, majors, minors, specialized tracks and certificates in data science.

Development of LoRa IoT Automatic Meter Reading and Meter Data Management System for Smart Water Grid (스마트워터그리드를 위한 LoRa IoT 원격검침 및 계량데이터 시스템 개발)

  • In this paper, water meter AMR(automatic meter reading), one of the core technologies of smart water grid, using LoRa IoT network is studied. The main content of the research is to develop the network system and show the test results that one PC server receives the readings of water meters from multiple households through LoRa communication and stores them in the database, and at the same time sends the data to the web server database through internet. The system also allows users to monitor the meter readings using their smartphones. The hardware and firmware of the main board of the digital water meter are developed. For a PC server program, MDMS(meter data management system) is developed using Visual C#. The app program running on the user's smartphone is also developed using Android Studio. By connecting each developed parts, the total network system is mounted on a flow test bench in the laboratory and tested. For the fields test, 5 places around the university are selected and the transmission distances are tested. The test result show that the developed system can be applied into the real field. The developed system can be expanded to various social safety nets such as monitoring the living alone or elderly with dementia.

A Study on the Application of Object Detection Method in Construction Site through Real Case Analysis (사례분석을 통한 객체검출 기술의 건설현장 적용 방안에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop a deep learning-based personal protective equipment detection model for disaster prevention at construction sites, and to apply it to actual construction sites and to analyze the results. Method: In the method of conducting this study, the dataset on the real environment was constructed and the developed personal protective equipment(PPE) detection model was applied. The PPE detection model mainly consists of worker detection and PPE classification model.The worker detection model uses a deep learning-based algorithm to build a dataset obtained from the actual field to learn and detect workers, and the PPE classification model applies the PPE detection algorithm learned from the worker detection area extracted from the work detection model. For verification of the proposed model, experimental results were derived from data obtained from three construction sites. Results: The application of the PPE recognition model to construction site brings up the problems related to mis-recognition and non-recognition. Conclusions: The analysis outcomes were produced to apply the object recognition technology to a construction site, and the need for follow-up research was suggested through representative cases of worker recognition and non-recognition, and mis-recognition of personal protective equipment.
