Methods: In this article, first we introduced concept of Tongue Diagnosis based on physiological view. Further, we also reviewed published works including books and articles. Then, we reviewed Ayurveda to find similar concepts to Vicera Assignment on Tongue, and analyzed the comparison between the relevant contents of Korean medicine and Ayurveda. Results: In Ayurveda, they divided vicera into two part (right and left) and some elements of vicera were assigned to either side of divided tongue. In Korean medicine, a tongue is divide into three parts of Sangcho(上焦, Shang Jiao), Jungcho(中焦, Zhong Jiao) and Hacho(下焦, Xia Jaio) ; similarly, in Ayurveda, they divide a tongue into three regions of VATA, PITTA, KAPHA. Methods: Clinical studies on Korean traditional medicine treatment of meniscus injury were searched through 11 online databases. We analyzed the authors, publication year, country, study design, subjects, treatment methods, treatment effects, evaluation tools and adverse events of the selected studies. Results: 23 studies which included 9 randomized controlled trials, 8 case reports, 4 retrospective observational studies, 2 non-randomized controlled trials were selected through the databases. A total of 9 Korean traditional medicine treatments were used, among them, acupuncture treatment was the most used. The most commonly used outcome was effective rate. Conclusions: Through this study, we could confirm that Korean traditional medicine is an effective treatment for meniscus injury. It was suggested that various clinical studies on the effects of Korean traditional medicine for meniscus injury are needed and it is necessary to establish more scientific evidence through studies with a high level of evidence.

  • Objectives : This study reviewed existing studies on clinical examination of Korean medicine to investigate the trends and gaps of existing research on clinical performance examination (CPX) or objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) in Korean medicine education. Methods : We conducted a scoping review according to the five steps suggested by Arksey and O'Malley. Six databases(RISS, OASIS, KMBASE, KISS, ScienceON, and DBpia) were searched and studies published from 2012 to July 15, 2022 were considered. The subjects of the study were limited to domestic studies about OSCE or CPX conducted in Korean medicine education. Results : Among the 25 selected papers, 17 studies implemented OSCE or CPX in practice. Those studies were conducted in 8 clinical departments and 9 of them used standardized patients. All 14 survey studies reported positive answers in satisfaction, efficacy, and self-assessment. OSCE, CPX scoring items were developed by modifying existing tools or developing through expert surveys or through literature review and significant cases. Conclusions : This study is expected to be used as basic data for following studies and promote clinical examination. From now on, the colleges of Korean medicine should proceed research on large-scale students about extended subjects through various research methods to obtain objective results that can be generalized and acquire validity and reliability. In order to promote such research, it is necessary to induce cooperation from institutions related to Korean Medicine and local universities to develop modules, implement, and conduct post-evaluation.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to review the clinical research of the gut microbiome for respiratory diseases to assist the design of trials for respiratory diseases by regulating the gut microbiome with herbal medicine later. Methods: We searched three international databases (PubMed, CENTRAL and EMBASE) to investigate randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of the gut microbiome for respiratory diseases. The selected trials were analyzed by study design, subject diseases, inclusion/exclusion criteria, sample size, study period, intervention group, control group, outcome measures, and study results. Results: A total of 25 studies were included and published from 1994 to 2021 mostly in Europe and Asia. Subject diseases were many in the order of respiratory tract infection, cystic fibrosis, allergy, and so on. As outcome measures, the gut microbiome in a fecal sample was analyzed by 16S rRNA sequencing analysis method, and symptom assessment tools related each disease were used. Major intervention drugs were probiotics and the results were mostly improved in the composition and diversity of the gut microbiome. Conclusion: Clinical studies of the gut microbiome for respiratory diseases have confirmed various effects and this review provides basic data for a well-designed clinical study for respiratory diseases by regulating the gut microbiome with herbal medicine.

Methods : Gami-Palmultang administration and moxibustion(large Bmoxa cautery) were performed for six years. Treatment outcomes were evaluated with Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI), Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G), blood test/ CT imaging results, and patient's statements. Results : After the treatment, all symptoms have been alleviated, the quality of life has increased, and it has been maintained without further metastasis of tumors for six years. Conclusion : Korean medicine treatment along with active observation can be an alternative to patients who do not want surgical treatment after recurrence of local lymph nodes in thyroid papillary cancer, and can have positive results in improving the quality of life.
