The purpose of this study is to suggest some interior design directions for university library in the circumstances of rapid change of user's demand for the library. In order to extract some ideas about designing the library, I analyzed the libraries of UC Berkeley which has tried to transform the existing condition of the building for satisfying user's new needs. Informations of compositions, layouts of furnitures and book shelves, environmental conditions of 25 branch libraries of UC Berkeley, and spatial behavior patterns in libraries were surveyed and analyzed to get insights to design a new model of library buildings. The interesting phenomena got from the survey is that most of the library users used their own laptop computer in the library regardless of environmental conditions of the library or book types. In conclusion, as the library is changing to the place of studying, not of reading books, four design directions for the library are suggested in this research as like these; 1) Establishing a Regulation Free Environment for a user, 2) Enhancing the Aura of Books as an Interior Design Element, 3) Supplying Personalized Spatial Characters, and 4) Providing an Impactful Space.

With rapid telecommunication development, university libraries began to provide traditional services as well as web-based services. For the web-based services, university libraries should collect, arrange, and preserve all types of information resources systematically to raise users access and convenience. Therefore, university libraries should be changed into a gateway, which emphasizes electronic collection and role of the internet. That is, university libraries should be a real space as well as a virtual space having collection ability and access paradigm. This research is intended to provide improvement plans through analyzing the collected data.

The goal of this study is to suggest the models for establishing and operating the collaborative repository for academic libraries by region in Korea. For this purpose, author analyzed the status of academic libraries by provinces and types, the collection space shortage of academic libraries, location and evaluation criteria of collaborative repository. And based on these analysis results, author proposed the basic principles, key functions and practices to accomplish, architectural scales of the collaborative repositories, transfer criteria and ownership model of library collection, desirable management and operation unit of the collaborative repository.

The academic library has the ideal environment as a facilitator of knowledge creation, as a space where researchers can collaborate and as a creation hub center on campus. Recently, based on the 4th Industrial Revolution and creative theories, the maker space is gradually being introduced into academic libraries in foreign countries. Maker Space of the academic library is the best place to discover new knowledge and interests, practice, and interdisciplinary education. In this study, we propose a plan to introduce the maker space of domestic university libraries through case studies of domestic and overseas university and university libraries.

This study analyzed the respective teaching and learning-related services offered by the Centers for Teaching and Learning and the academic libraries to find the proper roles of libraries regarding this type of service. We interviewed librarians to collect the data. The content analysis of the qualitative interview data enabled us to identify the librarians' perceptions of teaching and learning support, service provision method, strengthening relationships with other academic units, recognition of libraries' roles within the universities, and generating more investment for the libraries. Finally, the analysis led to six suggestions for libraries' teaching and learning support functions, such as advertising the availability of specific academic discipline or unit-oriented library services, strengthening librarian's capabilities as educators, bolstering digital information literacy of the faculty members and students, injecting libraries' views into the development and maintaining fundamental knowledge-related programs, emphasizing the notion of human-centered libraries, and finding new ways to utilize library space.

This research provides an empirical analysis of the academic libraries' operating performance in Seoul, Korea. This study aims to find the key variables and the impacts of each variables on the operating performance of the academic library to attain competitiveness and long-term conditions for enhancing customer satisfaction. Specifically, this research focuses on the library's circulation service performance. The author try to analyze the relationship between the characteristics of the library (space, number of employees, number of books, budget) and the circulation performance. Korea Libraries Association have published yearly-book on the Korean library's circumstances and statistics. Yearly-book contains the data about the spaces, number of books, number of workers, the library's budget scales and other unique elements. This study finds that the circulation performance of books is positively related with the size of physical space, number of books holdings, and budgets (hypothesis 1, 3 and 4 accepted). This study demonstrate that the characteristic elements of academic library can be influential factor of the library performance.

This study tried to present rational policy direction of future university libraries through the policy process related to university libraries and the change of policy tasks adopted in the policy making process. The 2009 Development Comprehensive Plan was established with the aim of supporting the collection of information resources at university libraries, and the plan in 2014 was developed with the direction of policies to enhance the role of librarians for competition in university research capabilities. The Promotion Comprehensive Plan for 2019 was aimed at strengthening the role of university libraries in upgrading their research support. Through the research on the policy of the university library by the government, the policy direction of the future university library in Korea was presented, and the plan was to provide an institutionalized platform (labor, physical space, resources, etc.) for the university library to maximize the research productivity of the university.

Recently, the speed of changes surrounding university libraries requires a hybrid library environment that supports integrated services, combining a virtual space with physical space of traditional libraries. Through changes, university libraries have faced the need to review their missions and visions, laying stress on the core values of university libraries. This study analyzed the central keywords in the contents of mission and vision statements of university libraries in America, England, Canada, and Australia. The research was acquired from mission and vision statements containing core values of developed university libraries. Core values are present in each area such as correction and information resources, services, place, people, environment and infrastructure, community, and parent-university relations. Ultimately, this study tried to provide the directions and the basic materials for the establishment of missions and visions for university libraries in Korea.

During the last decade, increasing use of technology that facilitates information access has changed academic library services. The emergence of information commons is one of the key changes. Most previous studies on information commons have focused on its conception and role. Whereas, considering information commons as a spatial service, this study aims to examine the influence of information commons on user traffic patterns within the library and perception of the library. As the information commons grew into main library service space and facility, it is necessary to explore what influences information commons have on the behavior and recognition of users. Two methods were used. First, observation method was used to record traffic pattern and user behavior. Second, twenty undergraduates and twelve graduates were interviewed regarding the use and recognition of the information commons and the library. The results of the study show that the traffic patterns were different between undergraduate students and graduate students; the location and structure of facilities influences their movement and behaviors; and the recognition of information commons tends to affect the perception of the entire library. The findings may help librarians improve and plan for library spaces to meet user demands.

The purpose of this study is to suggest IC concepts and some basic ideas of construction of public library's application model based of NDL IC Model. In order to successful introduction and construction of IC in public library, it should be preceded that some ideas of IC space concepts and constructual direction, physical space and facilities plan and gradual progress that introduce to the IC concepts.
