Investigation on the Vibration Characteristics of a Symmetric 2DOF Polysilicon Resonator (대칭형 2자유도의 폴리실리콘 공진 구조체에 대한 진동특성 분석)

  • A new resonator that is fabricated by single polysilicon layer process is presented. The resonator can move in two orthogonal direction on the plane parallel to the substrate. And the resonant frequencies of the two modes are intrinsically designed to be identical since the overall structure of the resonator is symmetric about the two directions of motion. Since the resonator ideally has two identical vibration mode, it can be applied to various micro-devices that requires multi DOF motion, especially to microgyroscopes. To investigate the feasibility of application of the resonator, dynamic model of the resonator including the nonlinear behavior of driving electrodes is derived and evaluated with the fabricated one, and the self-tuning characteristics are proved though experiments.

Internal Flow and Evaporation Characteristic inside a Water Droplet on a Vertical Vibrating Hydrophobic Surface (수직 진동하는 소수성 표면 위 액적의 내부유동 및 증발특성 연구)

  • This study aims to understand the internal flow and the evaporation characteristics of a deionized water droplet subjected to vertical forced vibrations. To predict and evaluate its resonance frequency, the theories of Lamb, Strani, and Sabetta have been applied. To visualize the precise mode, shape, and internal flow inside a droplet, the experiment utilizes a combination of a high-speed camera, macro lens, and continuous laser. As a result, a water droplet on a hydrophobic surface has its typical shape at each mode, and complicated vortices are observed inside the droplet. In particular, large symmetrical flow streams are generated along the vertical axis at each mode, with a large circulating movement from the bottom to the top and then to the triple contact line along the droplet surface. In addition, a bifurcation-shaped flow pattern is formed at modes 2 and 4, whereas a large ellipsoid-shape flow pattern forms at modes 6 and 8. Mode 4 has the fastest internal flow speed and evaporation rate, followed by modes 8 then 6, with 2 having the slowest of these properties. Each mode has the fastest evaporation rate amongst its neighboring frequencies. Finally, the droplet evaporation under vertical vibration would lead to more rapid evaporation, particularly for mode 4.

Microscopic Studies of the Magnetic and Thermal Properties in Ba-ferrite Single Crystal (Ba-Ferrite 단결정의 자기적 및 열적 현상에 관한 미시적 연구)

  • Ba-Ferrite single crystals were prepared and the magnetic and thermal properties were characterized by Mossbauer spectroscopy. The single crystal layer was cut in the c-axis and radiated to the surface by ${\gamma}$-rays for Mossbauer spectroscopy. We found out that the spin states in Fe ions were parallel to the ${\gamma}$-rays direction and the whole crystal bulk formed only one crystal with the same spin direction. $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectra in single crystal have only 4 sets of 4 absorption lines in each Fe site when the ${\gamma}$-rays have the same radiation direction with the c-axis in the crystal, and there was no 2b-site spectrum. The zero absorption of 2b-site means that there was a fast diffusion motion in a double-well atomic potential at room temperature, in which bipyramidal Fe ions have the two minima at each side mirror plane.

A Finite Volume Model Using ENO Scheme for 2D Unsteady flows (ENO 기법을 이용한 2차원 유한체적 수치모형)

  • This paper describes a finite volume, two-dimensional model. It adopts a recently developed essentially non-oscillatory(ENO) schemes based on the Lax-Friedrichs solver, which was modified for a finite volume grid, and employs a modified MUSCL(Monotonic Upstream centered Scheme for Conservation Law) for second-order accuracy in space. To demonstrate the applications of the model, it is applied to solve the 1-D and 2-D dam-break problems. The model in conjunction with the modified MUSCL showed a better agreement with analytical solutions than the minmod function in 1-D dam-break problems and is satisfactorily validated with documented published data in 2-D dam-break problems. The model was applied to tidal wane entering channel at one end, and the results showed a good agreement with analytical solutions. In the channel with reflective boundary conditions specified at the extremities, the model was capable of accurately simulating the wave propagation.

  • Adrenoleukodystrophy is an X-linked genetic disease resulting from mutations in the ABCD1 gene. Cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy is one of the phenotypes of adrenoleukodystrophy and shows progressive demyelination of brain white matter and adrenal insufficiency. We report a nine year old male who presented with rapidly progressive cognitive and neurologic deterioration. He had abnormal findings in brain imaging and elevated very long chain fatty acid level in serum. Mutation analysis of ABCD1 revealed a c. 1252C>T (p.Arg418Trp) mutation which was previously known but not reported in Korea.

This paper deal with the impulse turbine with staggered blade to improved performance by numerical analysis using commercial CFD code, FLUENT Maximum value of axial airflow velocity during exhalation is higher than that during inhalation This paper deal with special-type of Impulse Turbine so-called "Staggered Blade" for more efficiency to making air flow direct to on pressure side. Also, this paper has proposed special-type turbine with self-pitched blade more efficient.
