  • A numerical analysis based on two-dimensional and three-dimensional incompressible Wavier-Stokes equations has been carried out for double-circular-arc compressor cascades and the results are compared with available experimental data at various incidence angles. The 2-D and 3-D computational codes based on SIMPLE algorithm adopt pressure weighted interpolation method for non-staggered grid and hybrid scheme for the convective terms. Turbulence modeling is very important for prediction of cascade flows, which are extremely complex with separation and reattachment by adverse pressure gradient. Considering computation times, $\kappa$-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model with wall function is used.

  • In foreign country such as USA and Japan, considerable research has been done regarding the spread of smoke in room of fire involvement by using computer. but, in our country it has not been, so, this paper presents a detailed qualitative description of phenomena which occure during typical fire scenarios through numberical analysis. The governing equations are solved by using FVM method with non-staggered grid. The SIMPLE method for pressure-velocity couple and power-law scheme for convention terms are used. It shows that a plume is formed, hot plume gases impinge on the ceiling and they spread across it. then, it eventually reaches the bounding walls of the enclosure. It takes 20s for smoke to fill the enclosure.

  • A numerical study to predict the contamination behavior in a room being contaminated has been performed. The room with one inlet and three exits, which maintained same pressure at the ceiling, has been chosen as test model. Six sets of calculation have been performed, for one, two or three contamination sources of 1*10$^{-4}$ kg$_{c}$/s strength at two different velocities(0.2m/s, 20m/s). Numerical results show that the number the contamination concentration near the first source increased by every 20%-30% of the maximum concentration for each increase of the contamination source.e.

  • A simplified analytical modeling for micro-sized single metal particle combustion in air was conducted in the present study. The metal particle combustion consists of two distinct reaction regimes, ignition and quasi-steady burning, and the thermo-fluidic phenomena in each stage are formulated by virtue of the conservation and transport equations. Reliability of the model is shown by rigorous validation of the method with emphasis laid on the characterizing the commanding parameters. Effects of Initial particle size, initial oxide film thickness, convection, ambient pressure and temperature are examined and addressed with validation.

  • A new model was developed in order to investigate the effects of chelating agents on the migration of a radionuclide in the form of ion or chelate. The migration behavior of the chelated radionuclide was analyzed by formulating a convective-dispersion transport equation which included a degradation of chelating agent and chelated radionuclide. The mathematical model was analytically solved and checked with the existing retardation factor. The results show that the migration velocity of the chelated radionuclide was much faster than the ionic one due to the decreased retardation. Therefore, it was concluded that a new remedial action should be developed to reduce the generation and release of chelating agents from the nuclear power plant into the environment.

  • In this paper, the numerical analysis for heat conduction of silica/phenolic composite material, which is used for solid rocket nozzle liner or insulator, was conducted. 1-D Finite Difference Method for the analysis of silica/phenolic during the firing of solid rocket motor was used to calculate the heat conduction considering the surface ablation and the thermal decomposition. The boundary condition at the nozzle wall took into account the convective heat transfer, which was obtained by integration equation. The numerical results of the surface ablation and char depth were compared with the results of test motor that is TPEM-10. It was found that the result of calculation is favorably agreed with the thermal response of test motor.

  • Temporal and spatial prediction of water quality provides the necessary information to a profect planning, design, and model optimization for water quality mangement in a river system. In thes study, the QUAL II model is applied to the Keum River system from the downstream of Dae-Chong dam to the Great Pak-Je bridge. The advection-dispersion model of water quality based on the material balance and the numerical solution method of the model are presented. The enhancement of the model application is empha sized by comparing the observed and the simulated values of BOD, DO, and water temperature. Through these processes, the water quality states of the Keum River system are evaluated and the deoxignation rate, the reaeration rate, and Fair value are estimated. Also, the maintance of the target DO level with the control of the discharge from Dae-Chong dam is discussed.

  • A numerical analysis based on two-dimensional, incompressible and compressible Navier-Stokes equations was carried out for double circular arc compressor cascade and the results are compared with available experimental data. The incompressible code based on SIMPLE algorithm adopts pressure weighted method and hybrid scheme for the convective terms. The compressible code with preconditioning method involves a upwind-biased scheme for the convective terms and LU-SGS scheme for temporal integration. Several turbulence models are evaluated by computing the turbulent viscous flows; Baldwin-Lomax, standard $\kappa$ -$\varepsilon$, $\kappa$ -$\varepsilon$ Lam. Bremhorst, standard $\kappa$-$\omega$, $\kappa$ -$\omega$ SST model.
