Word Sense Disambiguation using Korean Word Space Model (한국어 단어 공간 모델을 이용한 단어 의미 중의성 해소)

  • Various Korean word sense disambiguation methods have been proposed using small scale of sense-tagged corpra and dictionary definitions to calculate entropy information, conditional probability, mutual information and etc. for each method. This paper proposes a method using Korean Word Space model which builds word vectors from a large scale of sense-tagged corpus and disambiguates word senses with the similarity calculation between the word vectors. Experiment with Sejong morph sense-tagged corpus showed 94% precision for 200 sentences(583 word types), which is much superior to the other known methods.

  • The number of subscribers of Broad & TV, Qook TV and My LG TV has been growing rapidly. It has been achieved at 1.7 million on August 2009. This study will focus on the viewing pattern of IP-VOD subscribers. For this research, we have interviewed 34 VOD users. According to the analyse, the VOD users prefer to watch free TV's programs, particularly variety programs, during 2 or 3 hours per view and 2 or 3 times a week. They use in general VOD service alone unlike the traditional TV viewers. Furthermore, There were single viewers who have used more than 8 hours continuously on weekend.

  • Currently there are many standards of network management. They are: SNMP(Simple Network Management Protocol - for Internet management), CMIP(Common Management Information Protocol - standardized by ITU-T and ISO), RMON(Remote network MONitoring - for distributed management of the LAN segment), and so on. Especially RMON has created the many concerns in order to manage subnetworks of a large network, but it has negative aspects. For instance, routers or hubs with RMON capability are expensive to a network manager because of adding heavy management cost. Moreover it imposes a heavier burden on network manager, because it must use a network management tool which will be additionally needed with RMON device. This paper proposes a model of PC based RMON Agent system. The RMON Agent system monitors the traffic on LAN segment through the use of a Virtual Device Driver(VxD), based on PC. In term of cost this model will replace the expensive RMON device, and eventually enable a network manager to manage LAN segment more efficiently, due to reduced cost.

  • As wireless internet markets become larger than before, many mobile applications are also being developed actively. In this circumstances mobile devices such as cell phones, PDAs are playing an important role to satisfy the user's need of ubiquitous computing. Due to the hardware limitations, however, the mobile devices like PDA can not run large-scale softwares by itself. The main goal of this paper is to make large-scale applications runnable on PDA. To accomplish this, we used the PDA-JPVM cluster computing engine which has been already developed by us. We found out by running the applications and the performance evaluation that large-scale Java softwares can easily run on the hardware-limited PDA. And the performance evaluation results are also presented.

  • Recently, although the requirement of quality of VOD content has been transferred upto the class of HD, conventional management systems characterized by OS dependency are truly limited in quality of video image, stability, and compatibility of network environments. In addition most of the content management systems realize very limited capabilities for the real affairs of content management and distribution services in such an OS dependent environment. In this paper, we propose a new scheme of HD-Class VOD Content Management System to solve these problems. We design and implement the proposed system based on open sources by using H.264 video compression method. The proposed system offers high quality content management method based on opened systems and independent on-line distribution method so that it can be realized as an integrated management scheme for VOD contents. Moreover, our system solves the problems of occasional cutting-down video, small screen, and poor image quality that exist in the conventional wmv-type CMS. According to the result of performance evaluation, our system maintains sufficient performance and tolerence for the case of large scale HD content operations or fabrications. We expect that the proposed integrated DB scheme will especially be effective when the content management applications are changed from Internet Web environments to mobile terminal environments.

포털하반기‘한판승부’예고

  • 올 하반기 국내 포털업계에 대규모 검색서비스 전쟁이 예고되고 있다. 관련업계에 따르면 다음커뮤니케이션.야후코리아.엠파스.MSN코리아∙구글등 주요 포털 업체들이 각종 신규 검색서비스를 내놓고 올 하반기 검색서비스 시장에서 한판 승부를 벌일 채비를 하고 있다. 특히 이들 포털들은 지난해부터‘블로그’, ‘미니홈피’붐에 힘입어 인기를 끈 개인화, 1인 미디어 시대에 맞춰 커뮤니티에 초점을 맞춘 신규 서비스를 대거 선보일 계획으로 기존 일반 검색을 넘어선 커뮤니티 검색에서 치열한 경쟁을 펼칠 것으로 전망된다. 이와 함께 올 하반기에는 구글.야후.MSN 등 외국계 기업이 주도하고 있는 데스크톱 검색서비스 역시 본격 점화될 것으로 예상되고, 지난 5월말 엠파스의 열린검색으로 본격적인 포문을 연 전문검색 영역 역시 계속 가속화돼 한층 진화된 서비스가 보여질 것으로 보인다. 이에 따라 새로운 검색서비스들이 검색 패러다임의 전환을 가져올 수 있을지 관련업계의 관심이 모아지 고 있다. 최근 들어 새롭게 등장한 신규 검색서비스에는 어떤 것들이 있고 어떤 경향을 담고 있는지 검색서비스 현황을 살펴본다.

  • 최근 컴퓨터비전 기술을 이용하는 새로운 패러다임의 마커프리 모션캡처 기술이 미국의 MIT, CMU, MS, 일본의 ATR, MERL, 영국의 Oxford 대학 등에서 개발되고 있다. 마커프리 모션캡처는 연기자의 몸에 마커나 센서를 부착하지 않으며 특별한 조명이 필요 없으므로, 애니메이션 제작뿐만 아니라 일반인을 대상으로 하는 동작 인터페이스분야로의 확대 적용이 가능한 모션캡처 방식이다. ETRI에서는 여러 응용 분야에 모션인터페이스로 활용할 수 있는 환경 변화에 강인한 마커프리 모션캡처 시스템을 개발하고 있다. 몸에 마커나 센서를 부착하지 않은 자유 복장 상태의 동작자에 대해 조명 조건 변화 및 배경 변화에 강건하게 실시간 모션캡처 할 수 있는 기술 개발을 목표로 한다. 본 연구 개발이 성공한다면, 2007년에 876억 달러 규모로 확대될 전망인 영화, 방송물, 게임 등을 포함한 세계 영상 콘텐츠 시장에서 핵심 요소 기술 역할을 할 것이다. 그리고, 차세대 3D OS에서는 직관적 3D 포인팅 수단으로 활용될 수 있을 것이며, 2004년에 18,600만 대가 출고된 PC 시장을 고려하면 폭발적 수요가 예측된다.

  • 최근 멀티미디어 콘텐츠가 빠르게 확산되고, 초고속 광대역 IP 네트워크 기술이 발전하면서 통신과 방송의 독자적 개별 서비스가 서로 공존하여 통합융합 서비스로 진화발전하고 있다. 대표적 방송/통신융합 서비스인 IPTV는 통합융합서비스의 가장 강력한 응용분야이며, IPTV와 같은 서비스들이 증가함으로 인해 다양한 인터넷 서비스를 구현하기 위해서 인터넷 프로토콜을 통한 고화질의 데이터 처리에 대한 관심이 통신업계의 화두로 등장하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 소규모에서 사용되는 표준 라우팅 프로토콜인, RIP 환경과 대규모 자율 네트워크에서 사용되는 링크 상태 라우팅 프로토콜인, OSPF 환경을 구현하여 IPTV 서비스 중에서 방송 화질의 PSNR값으로 성능을 측정하고 평가하여 효율적인 IPTV 서비스를 위한 네트워크 구축 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

Design and Implementation of a Fault-Tolerant Caching System for Dynamic Heterogeneous Cache Server Networks (동적 이기종 캐시 서버 네트워크에서의 내결함성 캐싱 시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • This study proposes a fault-tolerant caching system to address the issue of caching content imbalance caused by the dynamic departure and participation of cache servers in a heterogeneous cache server network, and validates it in both real and virtual environments. With the increase of large-scale media content requiring various types and resolutions, the necessity of cache servers as key components to reduce response time to user requests and alleviate network load has been growing. In particular, research on heterogeneous cache server networks utilizing edge computing and low-power devices has been actively conducted recently. However, in such environments, the irregular departure and participation of cache servers can occur frequently, leading to content imbalance among the cache servers deployed in the network, which can degrade the performance of the cache server network. The fault-tolerant caching algorithm proposed in this study ensures stable service quality by maintaining balance among media contents even when cache servers depart. Experimental results confirmed that the proposed algorithm effectively maintains content distribution despite the departure of cache servers. Additionally, we built a network composed of seven heterogeneous cache servers to verify the practicality of the proposed caching system and demonstrated its performance and scalability through a large-scale cache server network in a virtual environment.
