  • In this study, an evaluation method was proposed to determine the restoration section in the riverine ecobelt project. The target river for this study is the Hongcheon river in Kangwon-do. The Hongcheon river of 96 km was divided longitudinally into subsections of 2 km. The analysis through map and aerial photograph as well as field surveys were performed in 48-sub-sections. The fragmentation items were classified into connectivity and ecological functionality. The connectivity fragmentation was also divided into two items: the area discontinuity of the land use and the line discontinuity of river bank and road. Also, the ecological functional fragmentation was evaluated by using the items of river channel, river bed, vegetation, and the obstruction of river flow. These items was modified from those in the previous literature. From map analyses and field surveys, the fragmentation score was kept with each items in 48 sub-sections of Hongcheon river. The fragmentation rate was made from the total score in each section. The results showed that sections from F1 to G2 was evaluated to have high rates of all connectivity and functionality fragmentation of 1st or 2nd rate. Other sections have high connectivity fragmentation of 2nd rate, but low functional fragmentation. Thus, these sections are evaluated to be excludible in restoration site. This study seems to make a contribution to evaluate the fragmented sections for the riverine ecobelt project.

  • In this study, an ecological fragmentation improvement effect from different riverine ecobelt width was analyzed. The target river for this study is the Hongcheon river in Kangwondo. This section of 11 km among the Hongchenon river was reported to be seriously fragmented in the previous literatures. The Hongcheon river of 11 km was divided longitudinally into subsections of 1 km. The analysis through map and aerial photograph as well as field surveys were performed in 11 subsections(A-K). Using the fragmentation index, the connectivity fragmentation such as river bank, road, and land use and the ecological functional fragmentation were evaluated. The results showed that I-section has the highest fragmentation rate. The Hongcheon river in the present status without ecobelt was analyzed to has the fragmentation of 2nd rate from the mean fragmentation value of 11-subsections. Also, when the riverine ecobelt of 10 m-50 m was restored, the improvement effect of connectivity fragmentation was relatively small, while for the ecological fragmentation, the improvement effect of 12.4-25.1% was predicted. Also, the ecobelts of 10 m and 30 m were evaluated to have a relatively great improvement effect. Especially, for the ecobelt of 30m width, the fragmentation rate was mitigated form 2nd rate to 3rd rate.

  • This study was conducted to clarify the distribution and fragmented points of mountain range and to select priority points for restoration by assessment in Daejeon. There were ten Semaek of mountain extended from three Jimaek in Daejeon. As a result of overlapping the main mountain ridge with a network of roads, twelve points out of total thirty-one fragmented points were chosen as practical points for restoration. We developed index and model to assess twelve practical points for restoration. All points were classified into three grades, four points of grade I, five points of grade II and three points of grade III. From this study, we proposed differentiated restoration plan for each grade. Further studies on development of more objective assessment and detailed methodology should be needed to prepare effective restoration plan.

  • In this study, the assessment scheme has been developed to evaluate the ecological function of rivers which were changed by the river improvement project. The evaluating factors are composed of physical structure in river channels and ecological connectivity in river areas, and each value of the factors is quantified based on 4 and 2 variables, respectably. This scheme was applied to past (1918, before artificial river improvement) and present Mankyung River area. A GIS model was adopted for calculating, analysing, and presenting river ecological conditions using the 204 grids and 7 reaches in study area. Comparison results show that the evaluation grade was decreased in both factors after river improvement. The main causes of lower grade (from II to IV) for physical structure are the river straightening and crossing structures. The reduction (from II to III) in ecological connectivity grade effected by linear fragmentation due to roads and rails is found to be greater than areal fragmentation due to land-use. In particular, it is also found that a high degree of ecological connectivity in 1918 was distributed along the river, but that one in 2007 showed a tendency to scatter because of the construction of levee and increase of urbanized area.

  • Objectives : The significance of leukoaraiosis on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is uncertain, but it is often seen with vascular risk factors or in the context of cognitive impairment. We aimed to investigate the effect of leukoaraiosis on the severity and course of delirium. Methods : Periventricular hyperintensity and deep white matter hyperintensity on brain MRI were rated in 42 patients with delirium by semiquantative visual rating scale. Correlations between their grades and the scores of Korean version of Delirium Rating Scale-Revised-98 (K-DRS-R-98) were analyzed, and the interaction effects between the groups according to the levels of leukoaraiosis and two evaluation points were also analyzed. Results : The grade of deep white matter hyperintensity in the occipital lobe was positively correlated with the scores on the total, severity items, cognitive items, and non-cognitive items of K-DRS-R-98. The cognitive items scores of K-DRS-R-98 in the low grade group of periventricular hyperintensity showed significantly steeper decrease than the high grade group. Conclusions : A difference in severity or recovery speed of delirium according to the level of leukoaraiosis may result from disruption in brain functional connectivity. Our results have a clinical implication in that the severity and course of delirium can be possibly predicted using the level of leukoaraiosis.

  • This study was intended to set development priorities for five undeveloped neighborhood parks scattered throughout the downtown area of Cheongju City using a PDPI(Park Development Pressure Index). In order to calculate the PDPI, this study employed an additive integration method. The PDPI was graded from 1 to 5, based on the evaluation scores in accordance with nine indicators selected through literature reviews and interviews with public officials. The indicators have been classified into three categories: physical environment, utilization possibility, and facility distribution. The indicators are as follows: 1) 'altitude and inclination' and 'NDVI' as physical environment indicators; 2) 'ratio of residential area', 'forecasted utility population', 'undeveloped period', 'redevelopment near parks', 'ratio of area divided by main streets', reflecting utilization possibility; and 3) 'Distance between Neighborhood Parks' and 'Distribution of alternative facilities' as facility distribution. The following results were found: 1) three neighborhood parks including 'Sagic 2', 'Sachen', and 'Dangsan' were ranked in the first grade of PDPI; and, 2) one neighborhood park 'Samsungdang' was ranked in the fifth grade of PDPI. The above results mean that among undeveloped neighborhood parks, three have been exposed to extremely strong park development pressure, and that while two neighborhood parks have had strong exposure to park development pressure due to potential users according to their close location to Sagic Ro, an east-west main axis of Cheongju City, one neighborhood park has had weak exposure to development pressure because of the close location to 'Chuungbuk National University' and a lack of residential areas, showing a low possibility for development.

  • This study were classified the type of fishway installed on the tributary of Nakdong River, and analyze the state was to establish a management plan. As a result showed low installation ratio of fishway which includes 9,164 weirs at the 786 streams of the tributary of Nakdong River and 1,263 fishways. The type of fishway is shown as 62% for standard type and 38% for non-standard type. Assessment results of fishway condition, the ones in good condition, moderate and poor condition fishways are examined as 28%, 66%, 6%, respectively. In the past, there happened to install the fishways without discussing with fishery research institution but it is judged to install the verified fishways through powerful legal remedy and enable each community to control the fishways voluntarily through the support of government after installing the fishways.

  • Association of South East Asian Nations(ASEAN) has recently decided to develop ASEAN Highway Network to connect member countries by road in an attempt to achieve a goal of closer economic integration in the region. This entailed the necessity to newly construct or upgrade some 5,481 km of road sections to make ASEAN Highway Network functional. This study offers haw we can prioritize development of these road sections using the Analytic Hierarchy Process. Particularly, it shows how individual road sections can be prioritized considering the importance of corridor or road group where the individual road section lies. It also develops how values of different evaluation criteria can be compared in the same scale. This new approach can be useful in prioritizing highway development in such cases where candidate road sections are widely scattered around the region, so detailed benefit and cost analysis is practically too demanding to carry out.

  • This paper is on the enhancement of our heuristics for GOSST problem that could apply to the design of communication networks offering graduated services. This problem hewn as one of NP-Hard problems finds a network topology meeting the G-Condition with minimum construction cost. In our prior research, we proposed two heuristics. We suggest methods of selecting G-Node and disconnections for Global or Local locating heuristic in this research. The ameliorated Local locating heuristic retrenches 17% more network construction cost saving ratio and the reformed Global locating heuristic does 14% more than our primitives.
