  • This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation for the effect of radiant heat on the evaporation cooling of water droplet in the process of fire extinguishing. The experiments are mainly focused on the surface temperature, the surface roughness and the droplet diameter. The range of surface temperature is T$_{s}$ =80-14$0^{\circ}C$, surface roughness is R$_{a}$=0.08-0.64 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and the droplet diameter is $\Phi$=3.0 mm in the radiation. The results show that the evaporation time is shorter for the larger surface roughness and the volume of droplet increased when the surface roughness is 0.64 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ at the surface temperature 127$^{\circ}C$. When the surface roughness is 0.64 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, the heat flux is larger than the surface roughness is 0.08 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ at the surface temperature 81$^{\circ}C$.>.>.

  • The fundamental and widely used spot welded sections of automobiles (hat and double hat-shaped section members) absorb most of the energy in a front-end collision. The sections were tested on axial static(10mm/min) and quasi-static(1000mm/min) loads. Based on these test results, specimens with various thickness, shape and spot weld pitch on the flange have been tested with impact velocity(7.19m/sec) the same as a real life car clash. Characteristics of collapse have been reviewed and a structure of optimal energy absorbing capacity is suggested.

  • Injector dynamics of multi swirl injectors in an annular combustor have been investigated by LES(Large Eddy Simulation) turbulent model with MPI parallel computation technique. The present study employs the LM6000 lean premixed swirl-stabilized annular combustor. Real shape combustor is simulated in order to investigate the detail interaction mechanism among multi-injectors. The strong vortex breakdown occurs at the impinging surface between the adjacent injectors so that the complex and strong oscillatory pressure propagates inside of the combustor. Tangential pressure fluctuation mode was captured by including multi injectors in computational domain.

  • In this paper, we evaluate the power consumption of IEEE802.15.4e TSCH which uses the specific link scheduling scheme proposed in reference[1]. And we also compares it with the power consumption of conventional single channel IEEE802.15.4. The power consumption of IEEE802.15.4e TSCH is smaller than the conventional one under the any conditions of traffic. The reasons can be explained as the followings. Firstly, TSCH does not have backoff time because of using the collision free link scheduling. Secondly, there is the timing difference of MAC offset parameter between TSCH and conventional IEEE802.15.4 Lastly, the devices in TSCH mode sleep during the time slots which are not assigned to itself.

  • In this paper we describe an asynchronous MAC protocol with receiver-initiated duty cycling for energy-efficiency in wireless sensor networks(WSN). Legacy asynchronous MAC protocols, X-MAC and PW-MAC, has weaknesses which generates too many control packets and has data collision problem between multiple transmitters, respectively. Therefore, we propose a receiver-initiated asynchronous MAC protocol which generates control packets from transmitter to complement these disadvantages. Compared to the prior asynchronous duty cycling approaches of X-MAC and PW-MAC, the proposed protocol shows a improvement in energy-efficiency, throughput and latency from simulation results.

  • Flow patterns were measured in a shrouded centrifugal impeller. The flow rate in measurements was fixed at the value corresponding to a nearly zero incidence at the blade inlet. By using a single slanted hot-wire probe and a Kiel probe mounted on the impeller hub disk, the 3-D relative velocities and the rotary stagnation pressures were measured in seven circumferential planes from the inlet to the outlet of impeller rotating at 700 rpm, and the static pressure distribution along flow passage and the slip factor at impeller outlet were calculated from the measured values. From these measured data, the primary and secondary flows, the wake production and the static pressure rise in the impeller passage were investigated. Furthermore, the secondary flow patterns and the wake's location in this impeller passage were compared with those of the unshrouded impeller.

  • In evaluating the performance of RFID systems, the tag anti-collision arbitration has been considered to be an important issue. For BT(Binary Tree) and ABS( Adaptive Binary Splitting) protocols, the so-called capture effect, which presumably happens frequently in the process of readers' receiving messages from multiple tags, can lead to some failures in detecting all tags in BT and ABS. In this paper, we propose a new anti-collision protocol, namely FTB (Feedback TagID with Binary splitting), which can solve the aforementioned problem and improve the performance.

  • This paper concerns the crashworthiness of the widely used vehicle structure, the spot welded hat and double hat shaped section members, which are excellent on the point of the energy absorbing capacity and low production cost. The target of this paper is to analyze the energy absorption capacity of the structure against the front-end collision, and to obtain useful information for designing stage. Changing the spot weld pitches on the flanges, the hat and double hat shaped section members were tested on the axial collapse loads in impact velocities of 4.72m/sec, 6.54m/sec, 7.19m/sec and 7.27m/sec. To efficiently review the collapse characteristics of these sections, the simulation have been carried out using explicit FEM package, LS-DYNA3D. The solutions are compared with results from the impact collapse experiments.

  • Hydrophobic characteristics of high temperature metal surface were investigated by high-speed visualization of water droplet impact. An aluminum plate was used as the sample plate and the initial diameter of a water droplet was 2 mm. Transient behavior of a single droplet impinging on the surface with and without heating was captured by using a high speed camera running at 4,000 frames per second. The Leidenfrost phenomenon was demonstrated for the case of $300^{\circ}C$ surface temperature, however there was no rebounding of droplet on the cold plate due to hydrophilic nature. The experimental results show that the shape evolution of a droplet impinging on the surface varies with the Weber number, i.e. the ratio of impact inertia to capillary force. The overall water-repellent characteristics of the heated surface was very similar to that of the super hydrophobic surfaces.
