  • The purpose in having a control rod an a buoy system is to control the motion of it. The system may be composed entirely af a single circular cylinder finder and a lang mooring anchor cable. A control rod has one function to perform in meeting its purpose, and that is to develop a control force in consequence of its orientation and movement relative to the water. The forces and moments generated as a result of the effects of mutual interference, then determine the stability characteristics of the body. In this paper, the study of control-rod-attached buoy's 2-dimensional section was accomplished. model tests and numerical simulations had been carried out with different diameters of control rods. and varying the Reynolds number $Re=5,000{\sim}25,000$ based an the cylinder diameter(D=50mm) to. predict the performance af the body and the 2 frame particle tracking method had been used to obtain the velocity distribution in the flaw field 50mm circular cylinder had been used during the whale experiments and measured results had been compared with each other.

Evaluation of seismic performance of road tunnels in operation (운영 중인 도로 터널의 내진 성능 평가)

  • This study evaluates the seismic performance of road tunnels designed before the provisions for seismic design of tunnels were first established in 1999. Extensive design data and site investigation reports are investigated to select tunnels sections that are considered to be most susceptible to seismically induced damage under earthquake loading. Detailed analyses are performed on selected tunnels. The methods used are method of displacement and dynamic analysis. In performing the method of displacement, which is a type of pseudo-static analysis method used for underground structures, full domain and reduced domain modeling were used. The dynamic analyses are performed using finite difference method and using nonlinear constitutive model. Comparisons show that the reduced domain method of displacement match very closely with the dynamic analysis, demonstrating that it is the most suitable method for evaluating the seismic performance of road tunnels built in rocks. It is also shown that road tunnels, for which seismic design were not applied, are safe under the seismic risks corresponding to an earthquake with a return period 1000 years. It is concluded that additional seismic retrofit of tunnels is not necessary.

  • Trantalum thin films have been prepared by DC sputtering onto As, P, and $BF_2$-implanted ($5{\times}10^15cm^-2$) poly-silicon. The heat treatments by rapid thermal annealing(RTA) have been applied to these samples for the formation of silicides. We have studied the application possibility of Ta-silicide as gate electrode and bit line. The silicide formation and the dopant diffusion after the heat treatment were investigated by various methods, such as four-point probe, X-ray, SEM cross sectional views, ${\alpha}$-step, and SIMS, The tantalum disilicide($TaSi_2$) are formed in the temperature above $800^{\circ}C$, and grown in colummar structure. $TaSi_2$ has a good surface roughness, having range from $80{\AA}\;to\;120{\AA}$, and implanted dopants are incoporated into the $TaSi_2$ layer during the RTA temperature.

Explosion Characteristics by Different Sizes in the Wall Surface Shape of a Water Gel Barrier (Water Gel Barrier 표면형상의 크기에 따른 폭발특성)

  • Experimental investigations were carried out to examine the explosion characteristics by different sizes in the wall surface shape of a water gel barrier in an explosion chamber, 1,600 mm in length with a square cross-section of $100{\times}100\;mm^2$. The sizes in the wall surface shape were varied by using water gel barriers with a cross-section of $100{\times}200\;mm^2$ and its were varied in the bottom of the chamber away 300, 700 and 1,100 mm, respectively from the closed end of the chamber. The flame propagation images were photographed with a high speed camera and the pressure was recorded using a pressure transducer and a data acquisition system. It was found that as the size of the wall surface shape increased, the flame propagation process and the time taken to reach the maximum pressure were found to be faster. As a result, both the flame speed and the explosion overpressure increased as the size of the wall surface shape increased.

  • This study was carried out to analyze the effect of wind load on the stability of a 50ton container crane using wind tunnel test and provide a container crane designer with data which can be used in a wind resistance design of a container crane assuming that a wind load at 75m/s wind velocity is applied on a container crane. Data acquisition conditions for this experiment were established in accordance with the similarity. The scale of a container crane dimension, wind velocity and time were chosen as 1/200, 1/13.3 and 1/15. And this experiment was implemented in an Effect type atmospheric boundary-layer wind tunnel with $11.52m^2$ cross-section area. Each directional drag and overturning moment coefficients were investigated and uplift forces at each supporting point due to the wind load were analyzed.

  • A floating offshore structure has high tendency to occur the buckling when compressive, bending and shear loads applied. When the buckling is occurred, in-plane stiffness of structure is remarkably decreased. And it has a harmful effect on the local structural strength as well as global structural strength. In the present study, it has been investigated the ultimate strength of tubular members which is located between a floater and a damping plate of the floating pendulum wave energy converter. Nonlinear finite element method is conducted using the initial imperfection according to 1st buckling mode which is obtained from the elastic buckling analysis. It is also noted the ultimate bending strength characteristic varying with a diameter, thickness and stiffeners of the tubular member.

The Origin of the Southeastern United States Continental Margin: Is it Volcanic or Non-Volcanic? (미국남동부 대륙주변부의 기원 : 화산성 혹은 비화산성?)

  • It has been controversial whether the United States Atlantic margin, which developed during Mesozoic separation of Africa and North America, is a volcanic or non-volcanic rifted margin. To understand its nature, the basement images of multi-channel seismic profiles off the southeastern United States continental margin have been examined. One of prominent results is the presence of seaward-dipping reflector (SDR) wedges, the most diagnostic feature of volcanic rifted margins. Two sets of SDR wedges appear to exist here; one along the basement hinge zone ('the hinge SDR wedge') and another seaward of the East Coast magnetic anomaly ('the outer SDR wedge'). Seaward of the basement hinge zone, the lower crustal high-velocity body previously known as the 7.2 km/s layer and the underlying smooth Moho configuration are also observed. Based on the comparison of these basement images with the crustal structures of the well-known volcanic rifted margin, the southeastern United States Atlantic margin can now be characterized as a typical volcanic rifted margin.

Mechanical Characteristics of Korean Red Pines according to Provinces (Goseong, Hongcheon and Bonghwa-gun) (한국산 소나무의 지역(고성, 홍천 및 봉화군)에 따른 역학적 특성)

  • This study investigated mechanical characteristics of pine trees in Yeongdong (Goseong-gun), Yeongseo (Hongcheon-gun), and Yeongnam (Bonghwa-gun) to define differences in the material quality among pine trees of the three regions. The compressive strength, hardness and shear strength of pine trees of each region were measured. There were no differences in the compressive strength of the juvenile woods among the regions, while the heartwood and sapwood in Bongwha generally showed the highest compressive strength followed by those in Hongcheon and in Goseong. The hardness of the cross-section of pines in Bonghwa was the highest, and in terms of the hardness of the radial and tangential sections, pines in Goseong topped the list.. There were no difference among heartwoods of each region in terms of the shear strength, but, but sapwood from Bonghwa had higher shear strength than those of the other two regions, which may be attributed to differences in tracheid length and microfibril angle among pines in each region. This study identifies the quality differences among pines of different region, and therefore, is expected to add value by helping choose the domestic pine tree material effectively and selectively, and also select a plus tree.

  • 최근 집중호우에 따른 강우강도의 증가로 유역에서 토양침식량 뿐만 아니라, 하천유사량(fluvial sediment)의 규모를 증대시켜 많은 유사 관련 문제를 초래하고 있다. 또한, 하천유사량의 유출 증가로 인해 홍수시에 유사가 하도와 저수지내로 유입됨에 따라 통수단면적과 저수지용량을 감소시켜 이수나 치수 기능을 방해하는 결정적인 역할을 하게 된다. 따라서, 이와 같은 문제들을 해결하기 위하여 보다 정확한 유사유출량을 파악하는 것이 중요하다. 현재 국내에서 유사유출량을 산정하는데 있어 국내 실정에 맞는 유사유출량 산정기법이 요구되나 유사측정지점 및 측정자료의 부족으로 인해 국외에서 개발된 모형이나 경험식 등을 통해 추정하는 방법에 의존하고 있는 실정이다. 이와 같이 추정에 의한 방법은 신뢰성이 떨어지는 단점이 있어 실무자들로 하여금 침사지, 저수지 및 댐 등의 설계시에 유출되어지는 유사유출량을 파악하기에는 다소 무리가 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 팔당호로 유입되는 경안천 유역의 실측 유사량자료를 바탕으로 유량-총유사량 관계식을 제시하여 보다 정확한 유사유출량을 산정하여 실무자들에게 신뢰성 있는 자료를 제공하는데 목적이 있다. 유사유출량 산정 절차로는 경안천 유역에 설치되어 있는 경안수위관측소에서 3년간(2008년 ~ 2010년) 실측된 유사량자료를 바탕으로 기존의 총유사량 산정식 Ackers-White(1973), Engelund-Hansen(1967), Einstein(1950)등을 이용하여 산정한 총유사량과의 비교분석을 수행하였으며, 분설 결과를 토대로 경안천 유역에 적합한 총유사량 산정식을 선정하였다. 선정된 총유사량 산정식으로 산정한 총유사량과 국통해양부 유량조사보고서(2010, 2011)에 제시된 수위-유량관계곡 선식으로 산출한 유량자료와의 회기분석을 통해 유량-총유사량 관계식을 제시하였으며, 제시된 유량-총유사량 관계식을 적용하여 연간 유사유출량을 산정하였다.

  • 최근 농업용저수지의 경우 기상이변에 따른 수위조절을 위하여 다량의 수문을 일시에 개방하는 사례가 지역적으로 증가하고 있는 추세이다. 그에 따라 당초 목적인 농업용수를 위한 취수시설이 최근 홍수조절용으로 활용됨에 따른 취수시설 내 공동현상이 발생하고 있다. 이러한 공동현상으로 인해 수시설물의 안정성에 문제가 발생하고 그에 따른 2차 재해위험이 있을 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 공동현상 방지를 위해 취수시설 공기관 설계기준에 대하여 고찰하였다. 공동현상을 방지하고 홍수량을 적절하게 배제하기 위해서 유입되는 공기량산정식이 필요하다. 공기관 단면결정은 농업생산기반정비사업 설계기준(필댐)의 구조설계 부분에 정리되어 있지만 이는 이수측면에서 설계 및 시공이 진행됨에 따라서 취수에 대한 목적을 달성하기에는 어려움이 있다. 따라서 취수시설의 기능과 역할을 증대시키고자 취수시설 적정 공기관 설계를 분석하여 향후 신규, 개보수 및 현장 유지관리에 활용하기 위한 기초자료를 제시하였다. 이러한 공동현상 및 공기관 설계를 위하여 현장조사, 수치해석, 수리모형시험을 병행하여 문석하였다. 그 결과 취수탑의 형상변수와 수위에 대한 수치해석을 수행하여 변수가 소요공기량에 미치는 영향은 조절게이트 개폐율을 증가시킬수록 소요공기량이 증가하며, 약 80%의 개폐율에서 소요공기량이 최대가 되었다. 방수로 직경이 증가하면, 공기관 입구와 끝단의 압력차가 감소하여 소요공기량이 감소하고, 수위가 증가하면 소요공기량이 증가하는 것으로 분석되었다. 따라서 공동현상 방지를 위해 공기량 산정식은 취수터널에 연직수문이 설치되어 있는 6가지 흐름의 형태에 따라서 $/Q_w=0.04(F-1)^{0.85}$, $Q_a/Q_w=K(F-1)$, $Q_a/Q_w=0.014(F-1)^{1.4}$, $Q_a/Q_w=0.015(F-1)^{1.4}$의 관계식 중 적정한 것을 사용하여야 할 것으로 판단되며, 또한 공기관에 유입부의 허용부압은 수두로부터 1.0m이하로 하고, 공기관 내 풍속은 $45^m/s$를 기준으로 최대 $90^m/s$로 하여야 할 것으로 판단된다.
