Study on Bearing Capacity of Ultra High Strengh End Extended PHC Pile by Loading Test (재하시험을 통한 초고강도 선단확장 PHC말뚝의 적용성 연구)

  • As the national industry is developing gradually due to the expansion of the economic scale, the construction of large and super high-rise structures for building social infrastructure has been increasing, and studies have been conducted actively to transmit the large loads at the upper portion to the lower bedrock. In this study, the PHC was extended to an ultra-high strength PHC, which increased the concrete compressive strength of the PHC from the conventional 80 MPa to 110 MPa, and the PHC, which extended the tip of the pile. After construction with the driving method and injected pile method, the tendency of the bearing capacity was tested through a load test. Measurements of the bearing capacity of the extended PHC using the pile driving method revealed the main surface friction force to be smaller than that of the general PHC, and the stet-up effect was also insignificant. On the other hand, the effect of the friction force on the ground surface when the injected pile method was applied is expected to increase the bearing capacity when the gap between the main surface and the ground is wide and the cement paste is filled tightly. In addition, the ultrahigh strength PHC showed higher bearing capacity than the conventional PHC, and the permissible pile stress was less than 60%. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the number of piles and reduce the construction cost and effect of shortening the length of the pile by designing the tip of the pile on the ground with the intensity of soft rock as a method for utilizing the increased strength of the ultra-high strength PHC.

Effect of Light Wavelengths on the Mycelial Browning of Lentinula edodes Strain Sanjo 701ho (광 파장이 표고 품종 산조 701호 균사의 갈변에 미치는 영향)

  • Mycelial browning, which protects the organism from contamination and moisture loss, is essential for sawdust cultivation of Lentinula edodes. The effects of light and light wavelengths on the mycelial browning of the L. edodes Sanjo 701ho strain, and the characteristics of its brown hyphae, were investigated. After the mycelia were cultured on potato dextrose agar medium under fluorescent lamps covered with colored cellophane filters (red, green, and blue) or under light emitted diodes (LED), with wavelengths ranging from 400 to 700 nm (far-red, red, green, and blue), for 14 h per day for 40 days, the mycelial browning rate was measured. The wavelength of fluorescent lamps, which range from 300 to 1,100 nm, was reduced to 360 to 1,022 nm with the use of three colored cellophane filters and the photosynthetic photon flux density was reduced by 42 to 71 % depending on the light wavelength. The browning rate by colony area of mycelia exposed to light was at an average of 64 %, whereas, that of unexposed mycelia was only 5 %. The browning rate was 0.02 % in far-red, 1.5 % in red, 53.8 % in green, 57.3 % in blue, and 64.0 % in fluorescent light. The white mycelia were resilient with actively growing hyphae, filled with cytoplasm, and thin cell walls less than $1{\mu}m$ thick. Conversely, the brown mycelia possessed dead, hard hyphal structures without cytoplasm, but with approximately $2-4{\mu}m-thick$-thick cell walls. In conclusion, lights of varying wavelengths, especially short-wavelength LEDs, are effective for forming dead, brown mycelia of L. edodes, thus, forming a protective functional layer for its living white mycelia.

Structural Disorganization of Intestinal Tumor Spheroid by Microbial Ribotoxins (방사선 모사 미생물 유래 리보솜 스트레스에 의한 대장암 스페로이드 구조 결함 유발)

  • Radiation therapy has many side effects, such as digestive mucosal ulcers, without regard to its efficacy. The purpose of this study is to address an alternative method to replace the limitation of radiation therapy using radiomimetic microbial ribotoxins. In the evaluation of cancer therapy, we analyzed the formation of colorectal cancer (CRC) cell spheroids, which can take into account the heterogeneous cellular constitution, tumor stem cells, and the surrounding microenvironment. Ribotoxic stress interfered with the spheroid structure composed of relatively small clusters. Spheroids under ribotoxic stress were structurally sparse and their shrinkage was very slow. In the control group, the clusters of strongly aggregated cells were resistant to physical stress, but the ribotoxic stress-exposed spheroids were easily broken up by the physical stress. Moreover, the ribosome-insulted CRC cells slowly migrated to form clusters and the cell-cell junctional points in the ribosome-insulted spheroids were rarer than those in the control CRC spheroid. Moreover, levels of the cell-to-cell junctional protein E-cadherin were suppressed by ribotoxic stress in both allograft and xenograft spheroids. In conclusion, the radiomimetic microbial ribotoxins induced structural defects in CRC cell spheroids via retardation of migration and cell-cell junction in the formation of three-dimensional structures, and provides a basis for the mechanism of pharmacological radiomimetic anticancer actions as an alternate to radiotherapy against cancer.

Survey on Feeding Facilities and Animal Welfare Level of Laying Hen Welfare Certified Farms (국내 동물복지 인증 산란계 농가의 사육시설 및 동물복지 수준 현황 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate farmers' field survey to improve animal welfare certification standards and to obtain basic data on the animal welfare level for certified farmers to develop evaluation methods of animal welfare level suitable for domestic farm environment. The subjects of the study were selected 10 animal welfare laying certified farmhouses. The farming certified farming facility survey collected breeding form, head, feed and drink space, breeding density, length and shape of perch. Animal welfare was assessed by the presence of sand bath, spawning, enrichment measures, free range, feathers pecking. The results of the study showed that most the certified animal welfare laying hens complied with the certification standards. All the farms were providing the nest box, but there were farms with more than 20% of the spawning rate. The perches were provided in sufficient length, but only three of ten farms were using rounded perches. Feather damage has been identified in most survey farms, which is likely to be due to feather damage caused by roosters producing both fertilized eggs. In this study, 10 farm households were surveyed. It was not possible to represent the whole certified farmhouse. Therefore, it should be analyzed thoroughly to evaluate the level of animal welfare.

A Case of Granular Cell Tumor of the Breast in a Male Patient (남성유방에서 과립세포종양의 증례 보고)

  • A 52-year-old male complained of a painless, firm, and slow-growing mass in his right breast outer portion. The chest CT revealed a 3.3 cm-sized oval shaped, microlobulated, mild enhancing mass. Ultrasound showed a microlobulated marginated heterogeneous hypoechoic mass with internal vascularity and calcifications in the mass. On the ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy, the mass was confirmed as a benign granular cell tumor (GCT). The patient transferred to another hospital and underwent surgical removal of the lesion. GCT of the breast is uncommon and mostly benign neoplasm to originate from Schwann cell. Clinical and radiologic features of GCTs, including CT and ultrasound images, mimic malignancy and make diagnosis of GCT more difficult. The CT images of GCTs are much rarely reported. Physicians and radiologists must be aware of radiologic characteristics of this rare benign tumor for male breast, to avoid misdiagnosis this tumor for breast malignancy and overtreat.

High-power Operation of a Yb Fiber Laser at 1018 nm (1018 nm 파장의 고출력 Yb 광섬유 레이저)

  • High-power continuous-wave operation of a Yb-doped double-clad fiber laser at 1018 nm, pumped by high-power diode lasers at 976 nm, is reported. Based on numerical calculation of the gain and laser signal power along the length of the Yb fiber, it is found that robust operation at 1018 nm can be achieved for a high Yb3+-ion excitation density greater than 11.5%, accompanied by high suppression of the feedback from the fiber's end facet. The Yb fiber laser constructed in house yields 626 W of continuous-wave output at 1018 nm for 729 W of incident pump power, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 86.6%. The prospect for power scaling is considered.

Comparison of Fruiting Body Characteristics Among Shiitake Varieties Developed by National Institute of Forest Science Using Sawdust Block Cultivation Method (사각블럭 배지에서 국립산림과학원 개발 표고 품종의 자실체 특성 비교)

  • Six strains among the shiitake varieties developed by the National Institute of Forest Science were used to select suitable varieties for sawdust block cultivation method. After 100 days cultivation (60 days in dark and 40 days in light), the weight loss rate of the sawdust block media was 14.4% (12.8% to 15.7%) in average. After 5 to 7 days of fruiting process, 2~36 primordia per medium were formed. The number of primordium formation was in the following order: Manchuhyang> Sansanhyang> Sanbaekhyang> Bambithyang> Sangjanghyang> Taehyanggo. The stipe length was 41~59 mm as followed by Taehyanggo (59 mm), Sanbackhyang (56 mm), Bambithyang (54 mm), Manchuhyang (53 mm), Sanjanghyang (45 mm) and Sansanhyang (41 mm). Among the strains, Sansanhyang had short and thick stipe. The average weight of fruiting bodies was 33~77 g as following order of Taehyanggo (77 g), Bambithyang (51 g), Sansanhyang (50 g), Manchuhyang (41 g), Sanjanghyang (34 g) and Sanbackhyang (33 g). Mushroom production per 2 kg medium was the highest in Sanbackhyang (473 g) followed by Bambithyang (287 g), Manchuhyang (175 g), Sansanhyang (109 g), Sanjanghyang (78 g) and Taehyanggo (60 g). The hardness of the cap was 1,218 to 1,839 g/10 mm. Taehyanggo was the hardest (1,839 g/10 mm) and Bambithyang was the softest (1,218 g/10 mm). In conclusion, in the cultivation condition of sawdust block medium, mushroom production was good in Sanbackhyang and Bambithyang. Sansanhyang showed good in terms of fruiting body shape.

Centrifugal Test on Behavior of the Dolphin Structure under Ship Collision (선박충돌 시 돌핀 구조물의 거동에 대한 원심모형실험)

  • The impact protection system consists of an arrangement of circular sheet pile cofferdams-denoted dolphin structuredeeply embedded in the seabed, filled with crushed rock and closed at the top with a robust concrete cap. Centrifuge model tests were performed to investigation the behaviors of dolphins in this study. Total 7 quasi-model tests and 11 dynamic model tests were performed. The main experimental results can be summarized as follows. Firstly, The experimental force-displacement results for quasi-static tests show a limited influence on the initial stiffness of the structure from the change in fill density and the related change in the stiffness of the fill. And by comparing the dissipation at the same dolphin displacement it was found that the denser fill increase the dissipation by 16% for the 20m dolphin and by 23% for the 30m dolphin. The larger sensitivity for the large dolphin is explained by a larger contribution to the dissipation from strain in the fill. In low level impacts the dynamic force-response is up to 26~58% larger than the quasi-static and the dissipation response is showed larger in small displacement. Hence, it is concluded conservative to use the quasi-static response characteristics in the approximation of the response, and it is further concluded that the dolphin resistance to low level impacts is demonstrated to be equivalent and even superior to the high level impacts.

Effects of Psyllium Husk Content on the Physical Properties of Extruded Rice Flour (차전자피 함량에 따른 쌀 압출성형물의 물리적 특성)

  • This study was performed to determine the effect of psyllium husk addition on the physical properties of rice extrudates. Rice-based formulations mixed with psyllium husk (0, 7, 14 and 21%) were extruded at a die temperature of 140℃, screw speed of 200 rpm, and moisture content of 20%. As the content of psyllium husk increased, expansion ratio decreased, while piece density and specific length increased. Apparent elastic modulus, breaking strength, adhesiveness, and hardness augmented with an elevation in psyllium husk content. Lightness declined as psyllium husk content furthered, while redness, yellowness, and color difference intensified. Water soluble index and water absorption index increased with an increased amount of psyllium husk. In conclusion, the addition of psyllium affected the expansion of extruded rice snack possessing hard texture, small cells, and sticky texture due to higher water absorption during hydration.

Comparative Analysis of Biomechanical Behaviors on Lumbar with Titanium and Carbon Fiber Reinforced PEEK Connecting Rods for Fusion Surgery (티타늄과 탄소 섬유 강화 PEEK로 구성된 요추 유합술용 연결봉의 의공학적 영향에 대한 비교 분석)

  • The lumbar spinal fusion is a treatment performed to restore the stability of the degenerated lumbar. In this study, the intervertebral discs between two or more segments are removed and a bone graft is inserted to harden the segments. The pedicle screw system is inserted to vertebral bodies to fix two or more segments so that they can be firmly fused. In this study, a total of 7 patient-specific lumbar finite element models were created and pedicle screw systems were installed. The connecting rods made of titanium and CFR-PEEK was inserted to the generated models. Finite element analysis was conducted for four representative spine behaviors and statistical analysis was performed to investigate the biomechanical effects by the material properties of connecting rods. The intradiscal pressure of adjacent segments and the range of motion of the joints of each segment were investigated. In the subjects who used CFR-PEEK instead of Ti for connecting rods, the intradiscal pressure of adjacent segments tend to decrease and the range of motion of each segment tend to increase. However, no statistically significant difference in tendency was observed under all loading conditions.
