  • Collecting a dataset with a corresponding labeled gaze vector requires a high cost in the gaze estimation field. In this paper, we suggest a data augmentation of manipulating the gaze of an original image, which improves the accuracy of the gaze estimation model when the number of given gaze labels is restricted. By conducting multi-class gaze bin classification as an auxiliary task and adjusting the latent variable of the diffusion model, the model semantically edits the gaze from the original image. We manipulate a non-binary attribute, pitch and yaw of gaze vector to a desired range and uses the edited image as an augmented train data. The improved gaze accuracy of the gaze estimation network in the semi-supervised learning validates the effectiveness of our data augmentation, especially when the number of gaze labels is 50k or less.

  • Feature extraction is one of the main goals in many remote sensing analyses. After high-resolution imagery became more available, it became possible to extract more detailed and specific features. Thus, considerable image segmentation algorithms have been developed, because traditional pixel-based analysis proved insufficient for high-resolution imagery due to its inability to handle the internal variability of complex scenes. However, the individual segmentation method, which simply uses color layers, is limited in its ability to extract various target features with different spectral and shape characteristics. Spectral indices can be used to support effective feature extraction by helping to identify abundant surface materials. This study aims to evaluate a feature extraction method based on a segmentation technique with spectral indices. We tested the extraction of diverse target features-such as buildings, vegetation, water, and shadows from eight band WorldView-2 satellite image using decision tree classification and used the result to draw the appropriate spectral indices for each specific feature extraction. From the results, We identified that spectral band ratios can be applied to distinguish feature classes simply and effectively.

  • Osteoporosis is a major health issue globally, often remaining undetected until a fracture occurs. To facilitate early detection, deep learning (DL) models were developed to classify osteoporosis using abdominal computed tomography (CT) scans. This study was conducted using retrospectively collected data from 3,012 contrast-enhanced abdominal CT scans. The DL models developed in this study were constructed for using image data, demographic/clinical information, and multi-modality data, respectively. Patients were categorized into the normal, osteopenia, and osteoporosis groups based on their T-scores, obtained from dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, into normal, osteopenia, and osteoporosis groups. The models showed high accuracy and effectiveness, with the combined data model performing the best, achieving an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.94 and an accuracy of 0.80. The image-based model also performed well, while the demographic data model had lower accuracy and effectiveness. In addition, the DL model was interpreted by gradient-weighted class activation mapping (Grad-CAM) to highlight clinically relevant features in the images, revealing the femoral neck as a common site for fractures. The study shows that DL can accurately identify osteoporosis stages from clinical data, indicating the potential of abdominal CT scans in early osteoporosis detection and reducing fracture risks with prompt treatment.

  • Routing technologies considering QoS-based hypermedia services have been seen as a crucial network property in next generation optical Internet (NGOI) networks based on IP/dense-wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM). The huge potential capacity of one single fiber. which is in Tb/s range, can be exploited by applying DWDM technology which transfers multiple data streams (classified and aggregated IP traffics) on multiple wavelengths (classified with QoS-based) simultaneously. So, DWDM-based optical networks have been a favorable approach for the next generation optical backbone networks. Finding a qualified path meeting the multiple constraints is a multi-constraint optimization problem, which has been proven to be NP-complete and cannot be solved by a simple algorithm. The majority of previous works in DWDM networks has viewed heuristic QoS routing algorithms (as an extension of the current Internet routing paradigm) which are very complex and cause the operational and implementation overheads. This aspect will be more pronounced when the network is unstable or when the size of network is large. In this paper, we propose a flooding-based unicast and multicast QoS routing methodologies(YS-QUR and YS-QMR) which incur much lower message overhead yet yields a good connection establishment success rate. The simulation results demonstrate that the YS-QUR and YS-QMR algorithms are superior to the previous routing algorithms.

  • In the current study, we proposed an optimized brain-computer interface (BCI) which employed blind source separation (BBS) approach to remove noises. Thus motor imagery (MI) signal and steady state visual evoked potential (SSVEP) signal were easily to be detected due to enhancement in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Moreover, a combination between MI and SSVEP which is typically can increase the number of commands being generated in the current BCI. To reduce the computational time as well as to bring the BCI closer to real-world applications, the current system utilizes a single-channel EEG signal. In addition, a convolutional neural network (CNN) was used as the multi-class classification model. We evaluated the performance in term of accuracy between a non-BBS+BCI and BBS+BCI. Results show that the accuracy of the BBS+BCI is achieved $16.15{\pm}5.12%$ higher than that in the non-BBS+BCI by using BBS than non-used on. Overall, the proposed BCI system demonstrate a feasibility to be applied for multi-dimensional control applications with a comparable accuracy.

  • Recently, cattle epidemic diseases are caused by a pathogen such as a virus or bacterium. Such diseases can spread through various pathways, such as feed intake, respiration, and contact between livestock. Diagnosis based on the ELISA (Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) and PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) methods has limitations because these traditional diagnostic methods are time consuming assays that require multiple steps and dedicated equipment. In this review, we propose the use of the CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) Cas system based on DNA and RNA levels for early point-of-care diagnosis in cattle. In the CRISPR/Cas system, Cas effectors are classified into two classes and six subtypes. The Cas effectors included in class 2 are typically Cas9 in type II, Cas12 in type V (Cas12a and Cas12b) and Cas13 in type VI (Cas13a and Cas13b). The CRISPR/Cas system uses reporter molecules that are attached to the ssDNA strands. When the Cas enzyme cuts the ssDNA, these reporters either fluoresce or change color, indicating the presence of a specific disease marker. There are several steps in the development of a CRISPR/Cas system. The first is to select the Cas enzyme depending on DNA or RNA from pathogens (viruses or bacteria). Based on that, the next step is to integrate the optimal amplification, transducing method, and signal reporter. The CRISPR/Cas system is a powerful diagnostic tool using a gene-editing method, which is faster, better, and cheaper than traditional methods. This system could be used for early diagnosis of epidemic cattle diseases and help to control their spread.
