A new technique, which can increase the channel bandwidth in an optical wireless orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) link based on a light emitting diode (LED), is proposed. The technique uses adaptive sampling to convert an OFDM signal to a sparse waveform. In compressive sensing (CS), a sparse signal that is sampled below the Nyquist/Shannon limit can be reconstructed successively with sufficient measurements. The data rate of the proposed CS-based visible light communication (VLC)-OFDM link increases from 30.72 Mb/s to 51.2 Mb/s showing an error vector magnitude (EVM) of 31 % at the quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) symbol.

Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) refer to autonomous networks in which wireless data communications are established between multiple nodes in a given coverage area without a base station or centralized administration. Because of node mobility and limited battery life, the network topology may changes frequently. Selecting the most reliable path during route discovery process is important to improve performance in ad-hoc networks. In this study, we proposed an enhanced routing protocol based on AODV by monitoring variation of receiving signal strength. New metric function that consists of node mobility and hops of path is used for routing decision. From extensive experiments by using NS-2, The performance of the proposed routing scheme has been imp개ved by comparison to AODV protocol.
In this paper, the tracking error of monopulse radar caused by cross-eye jamming using terrain bounce is analyzed. Cross-eye jamming is a method of generating an error in a radar tracking system by simultaneously transmitting two signals with different phases and amplitudes. When the monopulse radar receives the cross-eye jamming signal generated by the terrain bounce, a tracking error occurs in the elevation direction. In the presence of multipath, this signal is a combination of the direct target return and a return seemingly emanating from the target image beneath the terrain surface. Terrain bounce jamming has the advantage of using a single jammer, but the space affecting the jamming is limited by the terrain reflection angle and the degree of scattering of the terrain. This study can be usefully used to protect ships from low-altitude missiles or aircraft in the sea.
A two-dimensional optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) encoder/decoder, which is composed of add/drop filters and all-pass filters for delay operation, is proposed. An example design is presented, and its feasibility is illustrated through numerical simulations. The chip area of the proposed OCDMA encoder/decoder could be about one-third that of a previous OCDMA device employing delay waveguides. Its performance is numerically investigated using the transfer-matrix method combined with the fast Fourier transform. The autocorrelation peak level over the maximum cross-correlation level for incorrect wavelength hopping and spectral phase code combinations is greater than 3 at the center of the correctly decoded pulse, which assures a bit error rate lower than 10-3, corresponding to the forward error-correction limit.
When mid-span spectral inversion (MSSI), which inverts the propagated wave into phase-conjugated wave in the middle of the entire transmission distance, is combined with dispersion-managed link, it is very effective in compensating for the wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) signal distortion due to chromatic dispersion and nonlinear effects. In this MSSI combined dispersion-managed link, the shape of the dispersion map, channel data rate, channel wavelength and wavelength spacing, etc. affect the compensation and, consequently, determine the transmission distance and capacity of the WDM signal. In this paper, the compensation according to the extinction ratio of the return-to-zero (RZ) pulse that constitutes the WDM signal in the MSSI combined distributed control link was numerically analyzed. As a result of the simulation, it was conformed that the extinction ratio to obtain the best compensation should be determined depending on the shape of the dispersion map and the size of the residual dispersion per span, which determines the specific shape of the dispersion map. These results show a significant difference from the results in a general optical transmission system, where as the extinction ratio increases, the power difference between the '1' and '0' signals increases, thereby improving reception performance.
In dispersion management, which involves additionally inserting a dispersion compensation fiber of an appropriate length to eliminate or reduce the chromatic dispersion of a single-mode fiber, determining the form of the dispersion map, which is the cumulative dispersion profile according to the transmission distance, is the most basic and important. In this paper, the various symmetric dispersion map based on trapezoids applied to dispersion-managed links combined with mid-span spectral inversion (MSSI), which compensates for the distortion caused by Kerr nonlinear effects through optical phase conjugation in the middle of the entire transmission link are proposed, and the effect of each dispersion map on distortion compensation of wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) signals is analyzed. Although the degree of compensation varies depending on the factors that determine the detailed shape of the proposed trapezoid-shaped dispersion map and RDPS (residual dispersion per span), overall, it was confirmed that distortion compensation for signals with a small extinction ratio was more effective than distortion compensation for WDM channel signals with a large extinction ratio.
The analysis of wide-angle seismic reflection and refraction data plays an important role in lithospheric-scale crustal structure study. However, it is extremely difficult to develop an appropriate velocity structure model directly from the observed data, and we have to improve the structure model step by step, because the crustal structure analysis is an intrinsically non-linear problem. There are several subjective processes in wide-angle crustal structure modelling, such as phase identification and trial-and-error forward modelling. Because these subjective processes in wide-angle data analysis reduce the uniqueness and credibility of the resultant models, it is important to reduce subjectivity in the analysis procedure. From this point of view, we describe two software tools, PASTEUP and MODELING, to be used for developing crustal structure models. PASTEUP is an interactive application that facilitates the plotting of record sections, analysis of wide-angle seismic data, and picking of phases. PASTEUP is equipped with various filters and analysis functions to enhance signal-to-noise ratio and to help phase identification. MODELING is an interactive application for editing velocity models, and ray-tracing. Synthetic traveltimes computed by the MODELING application can be directly compared with the observed waveforms in the PASTEUP application. This reduces subjectivity in crustal structure modelling because traveltime picking, which is one of the most subjective process in the crustal structure analysis, is not required. MODELING can convert an editable layered structure model into two-way traveltimes which can be compared with time-sections of Multi Channel Seismic (MCS) reflection data. Direct comparison between the structure model of wide-angle data with the reflection data will give the model more credibility. In addition, both PASTEUP and MODELING are efficient tools for handling a large dataset. These software tools help us develop more plausible lithospheric-scale structure models using wide-angle seismic data.

The amplification rate of a RF repeater is limited by the feedbacked signals from the same repeater. And an ICS (Interference Cancellation System) repeater has been developed to remove the feedbacked signals. The ICS repeater estimates the amplitudes and the phases of the feedbacked signals and removes the estimated feedback signals from the received input signal of the repeater. However, it requires lots of hardware complexity and this leads to the increase the cost of the repeater. Moreover, the ICS repeater can not solve the pilot pollution problems. To solve these problems, we have studied the implementation and adaptation of smart antenna system for RF repeaters. We have designed a smart antenna system with a switching beam structure in order to reduce the hardware and computational complexity. After analyzing the proposed smart antenna system, we found out that the amplification rate of the proposed repeater increases 23dB compare to the amplification rate of ICS repeater and the output SINR increases 6dB compare to the ICS repeater.

In general, the stability and response characteristics of the system can be improved by changing the pole position because a nonlinear system can be linearized by the product of a 1st and 2nd order system. Therefore, a controller that moves the pole can be designed in various ways. Among the other methods, LQ control ensures the stability of the system. On the other hand, it is difficult to specify the location of the pole arbitrarily because the desired response characteristic is obtained by selecting the weighting matrix by trial and error. This paper evaluated a method of selecting a weighting matrix of LQ control that moves multiple double poles with Jordan blocks to real poles. The relational equation between the double poles and weighting matrices were derived from the characteristic equation of the Hamiltonian system with a diagonal control weighting matrix and a state weighting matrix represented by two variables (ρd, ϕd). The Moving-Range was obtained under the condition that the state-weighting matrix becomes a positive semi-definite matrix. This paper proposes a method of selecting poles in this range and calculating the weighting matrices by the relational equation. Numerical examples are presented to show the usefulness of the proposed method.

This paper deals with the performance anlysis of CCA adaptive equalization algorithm, that is used for reduction of intersymbol interference at the receiving side which occurs in the time dispersive communication channel. Basically, this algorithm is borned for the solving phase unrecovery problem in the CMA equalizer, and the comines the concept of DDA (Decision Directed Algorithm) and RCA (Reduce Constellation Algorithm). The DDA has a stable convergence characteristics in unilevel signal, but not in the number of levels in multilevel signal such as QAM, so it has unstable problem. The RCA does not provide reliable initial convergence. And even after convergence, the equalization noise due to the steady state misadjustment exhibited by it is very high as compared to DDA. For the solving the abovemensioned point, the CCA adaptive eualization alogorithm has borned. In order to performance analysis of CCA algorithm, the recovered signal constellation that is the output of the equalizer, the convergence characteristic by the residual isi and MD (maximum distortion), the SER characteristic are used by computer simulation and it was compared with the DDA, RCA respectively. As a result of simulation, the DDA has superior performance than other algoithm, but it has a convergence unguarantee and unstability in the multilevel signal. In order to solving this problem, the CCA has more good performance than RCA in every performance index.
