  • Vehicular Ad-hoc NETworks (VANETs) suffer from frequent network disconnections due to obstacles such as buildings even in urban environments with high density of traffic. Thus, in this paper, we propose a routing algorithm that finds optimal end-to-end paths in terms of both traffic density and distance in the urban VANET and selects the next hop with the minimum distance, while maintaining the minimum hop counts over the path. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves higher throughput and smaller end-to-end delay than Greedy Perimeter Stateless Routing (GPSR) with message carrying.

  • This paper is concerned with the query slipping and its prevention for trajectory-based matchmaking service in wireless sensor networks. The problem happens when a query propagating along a subscribe trajectory moves through a publish trajectory without obtaining desired information, even though two trajectories intersect geometrically. There follows resubmission of the query or initiation of another subscribe trajectory Thus, query slipping results in considerable time delay and in the worst, looping in the trajectory or query flooding the network. We address the problem formally and suggest a solution. First, the area where nodes are distributed is logically partitioned into smaller grids, and a grid-based multicast next-hop selection algorithm is proposed. Our algorithm not only attempts to make the trajectory straight but also considers the nodal density of recipient nodes and the seamless grid-by-grid multicast. We prove that the publishing and subscribing using the algorithm eventually eliminate the possibility of the slipping. It toms out that our algorithm dissipates significantly less power of neighbor nodes, compared to the non grid-based method, as greedy forwarding, and the fixed- sized grid approach, as GAF (Geographical Adaptive Fidelity)

  • In this paper, we introduce a multiuser (MU) scheduling method for multiuser amplify-and-forward relay systems, which selects both the transmission mode, i.e., either one- or two-hop transmission, and the desired user via two steps. A closed-form expression for the average achievable rate of the proposed scheduling is derived under two transmission modes with MU scheduling, and its asymptotic solution is also analyzed in the limit of large number of mobile stations. Based on the analysis, we perform our two-step scheduling algorithm: the transmission mode selection followed by the user selection that needs partial feedback for instantaneous signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) to the base station. We also analyze the average SNR condition such that the MU diversity gain is fully exploited. In addition, it is examined how to further reduce a quantity of feedback under certain conditions. The proposed algorithm shows the comparable achievable rate to that of the optimal one using full feedback information, while its required feedback overhead is reduced below half of the optimal one.

  • To fully utilize the capabilities of a SONET/ADM network, traffic grooming is needed to multiplex a number of lower-rate traffic streams into a higher-rate stream, and vice versa. Although the capacity of a SONET ring network can be upgraded by operating it over multiple wavelengths, the corresponding network design may be costly if it employs a large number of ADMs. A cost-effective design attempts to minimize the total number of ADMs used in the network while carrying the offered traffic. We introduce and evaluate the performance characteristics of a new traffic-grooming approach for WDM ring networks, called multihop. The multihop implementation places an ADM at each node based on the requested traffic in the traffic-demand matrix then, it tries to groom the wavelengths which can be groomed. We select one of the nodes to be the "hub" node which has an ADM for each wavelength. The hub node, therefore, can "bridge" traffic between all of the wavelengths. The algorithm is specified and illustrated by a simple example. Our results demonstrate that it is beneficial to use a single-hop approach, but for a large grooming ratio and node number, we advocate the use of the multihop approach.e multihop approach.

  • In this paper, we propose an routing algorithm for ultra low power and high reliable transmission in WBAN environment. This algorithm is to minimize energy consumption and to maximize the life and reliability for medical devices. Also, this algorithm is not only medical devices but also non-medical devices is to minimize energy consumption and to maximize the life of device. The combination of the distance from the previous node and residual energy calculates weight. The calculated weight is used to calculate the weight of full path by cumulative weights. The full path to the smallest of the weights are set to the path. Also this algorithm is able to select another path to avoid the error path by determining the link status between nodes, when occurs link error and congestion. In this paper, we show that WSN routing algorithm based on shortest hop count routing algorithm and EAR routing algorithm compared to ensure high reliability and low power characteristic of WBAN to be verified through simulations.

  • In this paper, a multi-hop relaying transmission scheme is analyzed regarding its feasibility and potentiality in the IEEE 802.22-based cognitive radio (CR) environment. Shortly, basic design issues are addressed such as relay station (RS) deployment and a frame structure of physical channel to escape inter-hop interference. This paper mainly develops a radio resource management scheme based on spectrum sensing results aggregated from CR secondary nodes and improves the opportunistic spectrum sharing efficiency. In particular, a decision rule about a channel availability is made using a distributed sensing method. Subsequently, spectrum allocation and routing path decision procedures are proposed to establish a link from source to destination with a hop-by-hop manner. Simulation results show that the proposed multi-hop relaying scheme is substantially profitable in CR environments if the number of hops and RS deployment are designed in such a way that the spectrum sharing gain is larger than spectrum division loss which is inherently induced in multi-hop relaying systems.

  • In this paper, we propose a basic virtual grid-based routing algorithm in order to devise an efficient routing method in ad hoc networks using the location information of nodes, energy level, etc. A packet is forwarded to the X-axis direction at first based on the location information of a destination node, and then it is forwarded to the Y-axis direction as its location becomes close to the destination from the viewpoint of the X-axis. Due to the selection of next hop nodes to deliver a packet from a certain node to a destination node, we can regard the whole network as a virtual grid network. The proposed routing algorithm determines routing paths using the local information such as the location information of a destination and its neighbor nodes. Thus, the routing path setup is achieved locally, by which we can expect reduction in network traffics and routing delays to a destination. To evaluate the performance of the proposed routing algorithm, we used the network simulator ns2 and compared its network throughput with that of an existing routing algorithm.

  • An agent based geographic routing protocol is proposed to improve the well-known geographic routing protocol-GPSR routing protocol. In the proposed scheme, the agent is selected by sink node which concern about the source node's position as well as agent candidate's state. So packets will first be forwarded to agent and next step is to be forwarded to their final goal- sink node from agent. During the next hop selection process, nodes select their neighbors by considering not only position but also their average available buffer size. This results in efficient selection of next hop node in congestion area, and then increases the successful packet delivery ratio. The simulation is conducted for two scenarios: general number of connections and large number of connections in our map. Results show that new method with agent achieves improved performance in successful packet delivery ratio when compares to GPSR without our scheme.
