The silica containing carbon ($C-SiO_2$) membranes were fabricated using poly(imide siloxane)(Si-PI) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) blended polymer. The characteristics of porous carbon structures prepared by the pyrolysis of polymer blends were related with the micro-phase separation behaviors of the two polymers. The glass transition temperatures ($T_g$) of the mixed polymer blends of Si-PI and PVP were observed with a single $T_g$ using differential scanning calorimetry. Furthermore, the nitrogen adsorption isotherms of the $C-SiO_2$ membranes were investigated to define the characteristics of porous carbon structures. The $C-SiO_2$ membranes derived from Si-PI/PVP showed the type IV isotherm and possessed the hysteresis loop, which was associated with the mesoporous carbon structures. For the molecular sieving probe, the $C-SiO_2$ membranes were prepared with the ratio of Si-PI/PVP and the pyrolysis conditions, such as the pyrolysis temperature and the isothermal times. Consequently, the $C-SiO_2$ membranes prepared by the pyrolysis of Si-PI/PVP at $550^{\circ}C$ with the isothermal time of 120 min showed the $O_2$ permeability of 820 Barrer ($1{\times}10^{-10}cm^3(STP)cm/cm^2{\cdot}s{\cdot}cmHg$) and $O_2/N_2$ selectivity of 14.
The decomposition and/or conversion of carbon dioxide to carbon have been studied using oxygen-deficient ferrites for the reduction of $CO_2$ emission to the atmosphere. In this work, the homogeneous precipitation method using urea decomposition was employed to induce in situ precipitation of Ni ferrite($Ni_{0.4}Fe_{2.6}O_4$) on the porous ceramic fiber support (50 mm diameter${\times}$10 mm thickness). Effects of ferrite loading conditions on the CO2 decomposition efficiency were discussed in this paper. Removal of residual chloride ions and urea by solvent exchange from the porous media after ferrite deposition apparently helps to form spinel ferrite, but does not increase the efficiency of $CO_2$ decomposition. Porous ceramic fiber composites containing 20 wt% (1g) ferrite samples showed 100% efficiency for $CO_2$decomposition during the first three minutes, but the efficiency decreased rapidly after the elapsed time of ten minutes. The characteristic reduction time for the $CO_2$ decomposition efficiency was estimated as about 3∼7 min.
This study is on the properties of inorganic porous calcium silicate material made from silica powder through the autoclaving curing, the results of this study should be utilized fundamental data for the development of noise reduction porous solid material using siliceous byproduct generated by various manufacture process. For the manufacture of autoclave curing specimen, various calcareous materials used and siliceous materials used silica powder. In this study, properties in density and compressive strength according to the change of W/B and C/S ratio, microscopy for the shape of pore, SEM and XRD for the examination of hydrate after autoclave curing are carried out respectively. The test results shown that the more slurry density decrease, the more W/B increase at the fresh state, this tendency shown similar to in hardened state. Among the specimens of C/S ratio, the compressive strength of C/S ratio of 0.85 gave the highest the compressive strength. In the results of XRD, tobermorite generated by autoclaving curing was created all of specimens regardless of C/S ratio. To ascertain pore structure, we compared with existing porous calcium silicate product(ALC, organic sound absorbing porous material). The results of microscope observation, pore structure of specimen of this study was similar to that of existing inorganic sound absorbing foam concrete. therefore, we could conformed a possibility of sound absorbing porous solid material on the basis of the results.

This study intends to develop an eco-friendly concrete panel mixed with biochars. Experiments about mechanical and thermal properties were conducted on porous biochar concrete, which has insulation and carbon-capture performance. The concrete has a mixing ratio of 0, 5, 10, and 15 % for biochar and a water-binder ratio of 0.35. The unit weight, porosity, and permeability were measured to evaluate the mechanical characteristics. From the results, as the biochar mixing rate increased, the porosity and the permeability increased, but the unit weight decreased. Even though a decreased trend was observed in the compressive strength results, they satisfied the design standard. Since the thermal conductivity was decreased during the increase of contents, biochar could be considered an excellent material for insulation performance. In addition, regression analyses were conducted regarding the relationship of unit weight with porosity, compressive strength with thermal conductivity, and porous with thermal conductivity. From the regression, significant variables for expanding the scope of the application of biochar were presented.

The nano or micro sized structures of conducting polymer had been prepared by synthesizing the desired polymer within the pores of template of nano or micro porous membrane filter. In this study, we had tried to fabricate conducting polymer microstructures on an electrode by using electrochemical deposition adopting template synthesis. Our attention was focused on two different things, attaching template on the electrode and fabricating microstructures only at limited areas of the electrode. A conducting polymer, PEDiTT (poly 3,4-ethylenedithi-athiophene) solution was blended with PVA(polyvinyl alcohol) solution and used as an conducting adhesive. After attaching template membrane, the electrode were immersed in 0.5M pyrrole in 0.1M KCI solution, and electrochemical polymerization was performed. The growth process of the microstructures studied by SEM. The electrochemical fabrication of conducting polymer was performed by using two-electrode system. A large working electrode and a micro scale disc electrode were used for the confined area synthesis. Polymerization potential was 4V in an electrolytic solution made of KCI in deionized water. The optimum polymerization conditions were, i.e. (4V/100sec) for $250{\mu}m$ electrode and (6V/30 sec) for $10{\mu}m$ electrode.
In geological $CO_2$ sequestration, the behavior of $CO_2$ within a reservoir can be characterized as two-phase flow in a porous media. For two phase flow, these processes include drainage, when a wetting fluid is displaced by a non-wetting fluid and imbibition, when a non-wetting fluid is displaced by a wetting fluid. In $CO_2$ sequestration, an understanding of drainage and imbibition processes and the resulting NW phase residual trapping are of critical importance to evaluate the impacts and efficiencies of these displacement process. This study aimed to observe migration and residual trapping of immiscible fluids in porous media via cyclic injection of drainage-imbibition. For this purpose, cyclic injection experiments by applying n-hexane and deionized water used as proxy fluid of $scCO_2$ and pore water were conducted in the two dimensional micromodel. The images from experiment were used to estimate the saturation and observed distribution of n-hexane and deionized water over the course drainage-imbibition cycles. Experimental results showed that n-hexane and deionized water are trapped by wettability, capillarity, dead end zone, entrapment and bypassing during $1^{st}$ drainage-imbibition cycle. Also, as cyclic injection proceeds, the flow path is simplified around the main flow path in the micromodel, and the saturation of injection fluid converges to remain constant. Experimental observation results can be used to predict the migration and distribution of $CO_2$ and pore water by reservoir environmental conditions and drainage-imbibition cycles.
Melt extrusion foaming process for the preparation of poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) scaffolds was carried out and the effects of foaming conditions on the pore structure of PLLA scaffolds and their mechanical properties were investigated. The porosity and mechanical properties of fabricated scaffolds were compared with the scaffolds obtained from the salt leaching method as well. It was found that the optimum pore structure was achieved when the PLLA melt was kept in extruder for the maximum decomposition time of blowing agent. In order to maintain the proper scaffolds structure, the blowing agent content should be less than $10\;wt\%$. It can be concluded that melt extrusion foaming process allows for the production of scaffold having higher mechanical properties with reasonable pore size and open cell structure for hard tissue regeneration even though it has less porosity than scaffolds made by salt leaching process.

In this article, I will introduce recent developments of environmental-friendly materials fabricated using atomic layer deposition (ALD). Advantages of ALD include fine control of the thin film thickness and formation of a homogeneous thin fim on complex-structured three-dimensional substrates. Such advantages of ALD can be exploited for fabricating environmental-friendly materials. Porous membranes such as anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) can be used as a substrate for $TiO_2$ coating with a thickness of about 10 nm, and the $TiO_2$-coated AAO can be used as filter of volatile organic compound such as toluene. The unique structural property of AAO in combination with a high adsorption capacity of amorphous $TiO_2$ can be exploited in this case. $TiO_2$ can be also deposited on nanodiamonds and Ni powder, which can be used as photocatalyst for degradation of toluene, and $CO_2$ reforming of methane catalyst, respectively. One can produce structures, in which the substrates are only partially covered by $TiO_2$ domains, and these structures turns out to be catalytically more active than bare substrates, or complete core-shell structures. We show that the ALD can be widely used not only in the semiconductor industry, but also environmental science.

Porous $TiO_2$ nanostructured particles containing both mesopores and macropores were fabricated by utilizing an aerosol templating method from two kinds of starting materials (colloidal mixture of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles and PS particles, and that of TTIP solution and PS particles). The effects of mixing ratio of PS to $TiO_2$ and reactor temperature on the particle properties were investigated. When $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were used as starting materials, the increase of macropores number was observed by SEM and the specific surface area and total pore volume were increased from $31.6m^2/g$ to $39.1m^2/g$ and $0.068cm^3/g$ to $0.089cm^3/g$, respectively, by increasing the weight mixing ratio of $PS/TiO_2$ from 0.79 to 1.31. When TTIP was used as precursor, the specific surface area and mesopore volume of particles prepared at same condition decreased by 67% and 75%, respectively.
