Visual Fatigue Study of Active Senior (액티브 시니어의 시각 피로도 연구)

  • This study aimed to examine whether there was difference on visual fatigue between active seniors and young people, and to provide a guideline for appropriate computer use time for seniors. Blinking rate, maximal blinking interval, temperature of the ocular surface, visual fatigue questionnare were evaluated. The blinking rate, ocular surface temperature, visual fatigue showed significant change before and after the tasks. There was no difference between the two groups and thus, about 30-minute computer work appeared to be appropriate for seniors.

  • 본 연구는 LCD 패널에서 시청모드별 사용자의 피로도 차이에 대한 연구이다 LCD 사용에 따른 사용자 피로도에 미치는 영향이 보고되고 있는 것을 감안하여 감성 공학적 방법을 이용하여 시청모드에 따른 사용자 피로도 차이를 분석하였다. 실험은 34명의 대학생을 두 그룹으로 나누어서 같은 동영상 조건에서 각각 영화모드와 표준모드를 60분간 시청하게 하였다. 시청 시의 피로도를 알아보기 위해 생리신호 반응(GSR, PPG, SKT), 눈 움직임(동공의 확대 축소속도, 눈 깜박임률) 및 주관적 피로도(긴장도, 쾌적도, 피로도)를 측정하였다. 그 결과 주관적인 평가와 생리 반응에서 영화모드가 표준모드보다 더 피로감을 유발시키는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다. 눈 움직임 반응에서는 통계적으로 유의한 결과를 얻지 못하였다.

  • 건강한 눈 관리는 어릴 때부터 이루어져야 한다. 과거에는 TV, 어두운 곳에서 독서, 눕거나 엎드려서 책보기 등이 아이 눈을 피로하게 해 근시를 유발했으나 요즘은 컴퓨터 게임, 닌텐도, DMB 방송 등 아이들의 눈을 피로하게 하는 요인이 많아졌다. 아이들의 눈 건강을 위해 알아두어야 할 것은 무엇이 있을까?

The Effects of Eye Health and Dynamic Visual Activity on Eye Movement in University Students (안구운동이 대학생의 눈 건강과 동체시력에 미치는 영향)

  • Younger generations use a variety of visual media, such as smartphones, televisions, and computers. Due to the development of visual media, the health of eye was weakening. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of eye health and dynamic visual activity on eye muscle stimulation with eye movement and therapeutic massage in university students. 38 university students in their 20s were divided into a control group(18) and an experimental group(20). The experimental group performed eye movement and therapeutic massage every 30 minutes for 5 times a week for 4 weeks. Ocular fatigue, maximal blinking interval, ocular surface temperature, and dynamic visual activity were measured before and after 4 weeks. Ocular fatigue was decreased significantly after 4 weeks (p<.05), and maximal blinking interval was increased significantly after 4 weeks (p<.05). Ocular surface temperature was not showed a significant difference after 4 weeks (p>.05), and dynamic visual activity was increased significantly after 4 weeks (p<.05). Therefore, eye movement and therapeutic massage are recommended for the improvement of eye function and eye health. It is expected to be used as research data to restore and prevent for eye health.

A Study on Relationship between Near Work and Eye Fatigue (근업시간과 눈 피로도와의 관련성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate eye fatigue and analyze symptoms of visual discomfort according to near work in young adults. A survey was conducted on 347 young adults aged 25.37 years (142 male and 205 female participants). The eye fatigue using Conlon questionnaire were surveyed and near work was investigated amounts of daily computer and smartphone. The score of eye fatigue was $13.65{\pm}7.11$ in less than 2 h/d, $16.83{\pm}6.77$ in 2~4 h/d, $18.88{\pm}6.60$ in 4~6 h/d, and $18.83{\pm}5.62$ in more than 6 hours(p=0.001). Also, headache(p<0.030), re-reading(p<0.036), and movement and fading(p<0.001) symptoms increased according to amounts of near work.

  • 아침에 일어날 때 피로하다면 신경계 이상에 의한 피로일 수 있다. 과로도 안했는데 오후만 되면 움직이지 못하게 피곤하다면 질병일 수 있다. 이렇듯 피로한 부위가 어딘가에 따라 건강을 확인해볼 수 있다. 눈이 피곤하다면 간이 약한 것이다. 또 눈 주위에 붉은 핏줄이 선다면 심장이 약한 것이다. 눈꺼풀이 붓고 눈물이 많아지며 집중력이 떨어진다면 비장에 이상이 있다고 볼 수 있다. 아래 눈꺼풀이 붓고 눈이 침침하며 어지럽다면 신장기능을 점검해볼 필요가 있다. 이가 들뜨고 시큰거리며 피로하다면 위가 나쁜 것이고, 손발이 나른하며 붓고 움직이기 싫다면 비장이 나쁘다고 할 수 있다. 또 팔 다리 관절 및 허리와 무릎 관절이 쑤시고 피로하다면 비장과 신장이 약한 것이다. 목소리에 힘이 없으면 기가 허한 것이고 방광기능도 살펴야 한다. 목소리가 자주 가라앉고 잘 쉬면 신장기능을 점검해야 한다. 또 목소리가 몹시 조급한 느낌이 들면 폐기능 장애를 의심해볼 수 있다.

A Study of VR News Characteristics on User's Effect: Focused on Recall, Understanding, Enjoyment, Visual Fatigue and Resue Intention (VR뉴스의 이용자 효과에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of VR news focused on recall, understanding, enjoyment, visual fatigue and reuse intention through experimental study. Using Window SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0 program, the data was analyzed by exploratory/confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis and path analysis. The Results are as follows. First, presence and immersion among VR news characteristics influenced positively on users' recall of VR news. Second, presence, interactivity and immersion among VR news characteristics influenced positively on users' understanding of VR news. Third, presence, interactivity and immersion among VR news characteristics influenced positively on users' enjoyment of VR news. Fourth, presence among VR news characteristics influenced negatively on users' visual fatigue of VR news. Fifth, presence and immersion among VR news characteristics influenced positively on users' reuse intention of VR news. This study will provide on an important implication understanding VR news characteristics and VR news users.

The Study of Visual Fatigue by Monitor Letter Contrast with an Eye Tracker (아이트래커를 이용한 모니터 글자 대비도에 따른 눈의 피로도 연구)

  • Purpose: This study is to investigate correlation between eye fatigue and letter contrast according to letter contrast changes on monitor display. Methods: Reading speed test were carried out for 53 subjects (mean age: $22.68{\pm}1.85$ years) who have over Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) 1.0, and 45 subjects, who could read over 123 out of 163 letters among 53 subjects were selected. They were asked to read the letters which were composed of Black (contrast 100%), Dark gray (contrast 80%), Gray (contrast 80%), Light gray (contrast 30%) randomly. The change of their eye fatigue by letter contrast on monitor display was measured by monitoring their eyes with an eye-tracker while they were reading letters. Results: Event Duration (sec) was 33.635 for Black, 32.266 Dark gray, 33.936 for Gray, and 34.848 for Light gray. Average of Fixation Duration (sec) was 0.224 for Black, 0.218 for Dark gray, 0.239 for Gray and 0.243 for Light gray. Average of Pupil diameter (mm) was 41.133 mm for Black, 41.160 mm for Dark gray, 40.880 mm for Gray and 40.459 mm for Light gray. Frequency (blinks/sec) was 0.211 for Black, 0.206 for Dark gray, 0.221 for Gray, and 0.238 for Light gray. Conclusions: Event Duration and average of Fixation Duration were the shortest for Dark gray and the longest for Light gray. In average Pupil diameter was the biggest Dark gray and the smallest for Light gray. Blink Frequency (blinks/sec) was the lowest for Dark gray and the highest for Light gray. Visual fatigue by brightness of letters on monitor display was the least for Dark gray followed by Black, Gray and Light gray.
