옛말에 몸이 천냥이면 눈이 구백냥이라는 말이 있다. 그만큼 눈이 중요하다는 말이다. 이처럼 중요한 눈을 보호하기 위해 우리 몸은 눈을 보호하는 구조로 되어 있다. 위로는 머리뼈가 앞으로는 코뼈, 밖으로는 광대뼈가 철저하게 보호하고 있으며, 만약 외보로부터 눈으로 뭇엇이 날아오면 눈꺼풀과 속눈썹이 반사적으로 반응하여 눈을 감아 외부로부터 눈을 보호한다. 하지만 이런 보호 속에서도 눈은 혹사당하고, 시력이 점점 떨어지는 경우가 많다. 눈은 하루아침에 급격히 나빠지지 않지만 한 번 나빠지면 다시 회복하기가 쉽지 않다. 평소 건강한 눈을 위한 관리법에서 시력을 회복시켜주는 수술까지 눈에 대한 A to Z를 알아본다.

일반적으로 눈 화장은 화장을 처음 하는 사람뿐만 아니라 화장에 능숙한 사람에게도 어려운 일이다. 또한 눈 형태는 사람마다 다르고, 형태에 따라 어울리는 눈 화장 방법 역시 다양하다. 본 논문에서는 눈 형태를 기반으로 효과적인 눈 화장 방법을 제안한다. 효과적인 눈 형태에 따른 검색을 하기 위해 에지(edge)를 기반으로 데이터베이스 영상과 입력영상의 눈 형태를 비교하여 유사한 눈 형태를 검색한다. 검색된 눈 화장 영상을 입력 영상의 눈 형태로 와핑(Warping)하여 눈 화장 스타일을 적용한다.

흔히 '피곤하니 쉬어야겠다.' 면서 TV를 시청하거나 신문.책을 보는 사람들이 많다. 이렇게 하면 몸은 쉬는 것이 될지 몰라도 눈은 계속해서 일하는 셈이 된다. 중요한 것은 쉴 때에는 주위 환경을 최대한 어둡게 해서 눈이 푹 쉴 수 있도록 해야 한다는 점이다. 눈에 빛이 들어오면 눈은 그 감각을 느끼고 그에 따른 일을 수행하기 때문에 결코 쉴 수가 없다. 용불용설이라는 말은 눈에는 해당되지 않는다. 성장이 끝난 눈은 안 쓰면 안 쓸수록 좋아진다. 이번 호에서는 건강한 눈을 위한 정보를 제공하고자 중앙대학교병원 안과 이정규 교수와 강남성모병원 안과 주천기 교수의 도움말로 알아본다.

본 논문은 안드로이드 스마트 폰 환경에서 정중앙 블록과 주변 블록들 간의 블록 대비도를 이용해 눈썹을 검출한 후, 눈썹과 눈 간의 기하학적 특성을 이용해 눈의 위치를 찾는 눈 검출 방법에 관한 것이다. 제안된 방법은 Haar-like 특징과 AdaBoost 알고리즘 그리고 적응형 템플릿 정합을 이용해 입력 영상에서 얼굴 영역을 검출한 후, 이를 이용해 좌측 및 우측 눈썹과 눈 탐색 영역을 산정한다. 눈썹 영역의 Integral Image에서 눈썹에 해당하는 부분이 주변 블록들에 비해 상대적으로 어둡다는 특성을 이용해 눈썹을 추출한다. 이와 동시에 각 눈 탐색 영역의 Integral Image에서 동공 블록이 나머지 주변 블록들에 비해 상대적으로 어둡고 대칭성이 양호하다는 특성을 이용해 눈 후보 영역들을 추출한 후 최대 블록 대비도를 갖는 블록의 중심화소를 동공 후보점으로 삼는다. 이후 눈의 위치는 항상 눈썹 하단에 위치하며 그 떨어진 정도가 사람마다 크게 다르지 않다는 기하학적 특성을 이용해 눈 후보 영역에서 나온 동공 후보 점들을 검증한다. 제안된 방법은 거리 및 조명 변화 그리고 안경 착용에 강인한 것이 장점이다. 눈썹을 먼저 찾은 후 기하학적 특성을 이용해 좌우 동공 후보점 쌍의 적합성을 검증함으로써 안경과 눈을 효과적으로 구분할 수 있고 눈이 감겨 동공이 가려진 상태에도 감긴 눈의 위치를 검출할 수 있다.

자동 얼굴 인식, 표정 인식과 같은 얼굴 영상과 관련된 다양한 연구 분야는 일반적으로 입력 얼굴 영상에 대한 정규화가 필요하다. 사람의 얼굴은 표정, 조명 등에 따라 다양한 형태변화가 있어 입력 영상 마다 정확한 대표 특징 점을 찾는 것은 어려운 문제이다. 특히 감고 있는 눈이나 작은 눈 등은 검출하기 어렵기 때문에 얼굴 관련 연구에서 성능을 저하시키는 주요한 원인이 되고 있다. 이에 다양한 변화에 강건한 눈 검출을 위하여 본 논문에서는 눈의 텍스처 정보를 이용한 눈 검출 방법을 제안한다. 얼굴 영역에서 눈의 텍스처가 갖는 특성을 정의하고 두 가지 형태의 Eye 필터를 정의하였다. 제안된 방법은 Adaboost 기반의 얼굴 영역 검출 단계, 조명 정규화 단계, Eye 필터를 이용한 눈 후보 영역 검출 단계, 눈 위치 점 검출 단계 등 총 4단계로 구성된다. 실험 결과들은 제안된 방법이 얼굴의 자세, 표정, 조명 상태 등에 강건한 검출 결과를 보여주며 감은 눈 영상에서도 강건한 결과를 보여준다.

Eye localization is necessary for face recognition and related application areas. Most of eye localization algorithms reported thus far still need to be improved about precision and computational time for successful applications. In this paper, we propose an improved eye localization method based on multi-scale Gator feature vector models. The proposed method first tries to locate eyes in the downscaled face image by utilizing Gabor Jet similarity between Gabor feature vector at an initial eye coordinates and the eye model bunch of the corresponding scale. The proposed method finally locates eyes in the original input face image after it processes in the same way recursively in each scaled face image by using the eye coordinates localized in the downscaled image as initial eye coordinates. Experiments verify that our proposed method improves the precision rate without causing much computational overhead compared with other eye localization methods reported in the previous researches.

Purpose: The relationship between retinal conditions such as macular thickness and retinal volume of the eyes with central serous chorioretinopathy(CSC) and visual acuity was investigated. Methods: A total of 136 eyes from 78 subjects was divided into 5 groups: CSC eyes under treatment and its asymptomatic contralateral eyes, fully cured CSC eyes after the diagnosis and its contralateral, and normal eyes. Their uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA), best corrected visual acuity(BCVA), retinal thickness and retinal volume were further examined. Results: All of UCVA, BCVA, retinal thickness and retinal volume of CSC eyes under treatment were significantly different from those of asymptomatic contralateral eyes, fully cured CSC eyes and normal eyes. BCVA of the asymptomatic contralateral eyes was not significantly different from it of normal eyes, however, its retinal thickness and volume were significantly different from those of normal eyes. Increased degree of retinal volume along with the increase of retinal volume was greater in CSC eyes and its asymptomatic contralateral eyes, fully cured CSC eyes and its contralateral eyes than normal eyes. Conclusions: From the present study, it was revealed that the retinal thickness and volume of asymptomatic contralateral eyes of CSC increase as well as CSC eyes, and the change of BCVA due to CSC occurs only when the retinal thickness and volume increase in some extent.

건강한 눈 관리는 어릴 때부터 이루어져야 한다. 과거에는 TV, 어두운 곳에서 독서, 눕거나 엎드려서 책보기 등이 아이 눈을 피로하게 해 근시를 유발했으나 요즘은 컴퓨터 게임, 닌텐도, DMB 방송 등 아이들의 눈을 피로하게 하는 요인이 많아졌다. 아이들의 눈 건강을 위해 알아두어야 할 것은 무엇이 있을까?

There is few cultural tourism festival study which investigated snow related sculptures satisfaction from festival visitors and residents. The purposes of this study were to investigate the satisfaction of snow related sculptures based on festival visitors' and residents' evaluation and give directions for festival planners The important results of this study are as following: First, visitors from out of Taebak city satisfied with National Snow Sculpture Contest, International Snow Sculpture Exhibition, and Mysterious International Snow Culture Exhibition. They did not satisfied with Making Snowmen for Genius, Our Family Snow Sculptures, and Winter Riding Experiences. Secondly, residents satisfied with International Snow Sculpture Exhibition, Mysterious International Culture Snow Exhibition, and National Snow Sculpture Contest. Their satisfaction was low about Our Families' Snow Sculptures, and Winter Riding Experiences. Thirdly, introducing experience-oriented programs and facilities are recommended to festival planners for better festival than this year.
