  • The elements of a medium for gathering the able bodied and the disable bodied children are examined within the scope of this study. Starting from the importance of play for the children, the characteristics and the properties of middle childhood are chosen as domain. This study showed that though most of the playground sites were accessible to Physically disabled Children, and were safety. For Physically disabled Children, the opportunities to play in a play area depend largely on the accessibility of the facilities, this study also explored the play experience of children with disability. The play spaces and the playgrounds including the equipment are examined. The results of study suggest there be creatived planning items in terms of accessibility and domain, which, in detail, are summarized in following six points; Accessibility, Barrier-free, convenience, movement, safety, domain. A guideline on the design of an accessible & safety playground for Physically disabled Children should be made.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop contents and an instructional model that support children's dramatic play by integrating the robot and augmented reality technology. In order to support the dramatic play, the robot shows various facial expressions and actions, serves as a narrator and a sound manager, supports the simultaneous interaction by using the camera and recognizing the markers and children's motions, records children's activities as a photo and a video that can be used for further activities. The robot also uses a projector to allow children to directly interact with the video object. On the other hand, augmented reality offers a variety of character changes and props, and allows various effects of background and foreground. Also it allows natural interaction between the contents and children through the real-type interface, and provides the opportunities for the interaction between actors and audiences. Along with these, augmented reality provides an experience-based learning environment that induces a sensory immersion by allowing children to manipulate or choose the learning situation and experience the results. In addition, the instructional model supporting dramatic play consists of 4 stages(i.e., teachers' preparation, introducing and understanding a story, action plan and play, evaluation and wrapping up). At each stage, detailed activities to decide or proceed are suggested.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to provide an evidence for clinical practice by systemic analysis on occupational therapy interventions for improvement of children's play. Methods : Articles used in this study were collected from database of Pubmed, ProQuest, EBSCOhost, Scopus, RISS, KISS, and National Library of Korea. The key words used in the search were "Play AND Occupational Therapy AND (Intervention OR Treatment)" and the publication period was limited from January 2007 to April 2017. 11 articles in total were selected for the systematic review analysis. Results : The results revealed that the majority of studies was one-group non-randomized study and the majority of intervention used was play-based intervention in case of that play itself was the intervention goal. The most frequently used environment for the intervention was parallel setting of home and treatment room. The majority of studies was for children with ADHD and the most commonly used assessment tool was Test of Playfulness (ToP). Dependent variables measured along with play were language skills, social interactive skills, communication and pragmatic skills, problem-solving skills, caregiver responsiveness, and parent-child interaction. Conclusion : This study help to understand the current state of occupational therapy intervention for improvement of children's play. Starting with the understanding, it is expected that various studies on play of children will be done in the future.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between outdoor play environments and child's play behaviors. The data were collected by this study included field measurement survey, and non-participatory observation from 8 child care centers in Seoul. The field measurement survey were conducted from February 20 to March 20, 2005, whereas non-participatory behavior observation were conducted from June 15 to July 10, 2005. The major results showed the following. 1) Most of child care centers were too small, did not use the adequate surfacing to play various activities, and were made of play equipment setting. 2) Child's play behavior focused on functional play activity and construction play activity. 3) The relationship between outdoor play environments and child's play behaviors showed that small outside play environment with monotonous construction of play setting produced functional play behaviors on children. However, in some cases, despite the small and monotonous play area, diverse play behaviors were observed. These playgrounds at least differed from others in that they provided the place where multi purpose play was possible. This finding shows that multi purpose play areas can be an alternative in small playground environment.
