Construction of urban emergency shelters based on disaster-prevention green space is an important part of an urban disaster response plan. The accessibility of disaster-prevention green space is directly related to the disaster prevention service effect of green space. Taking the Jung-gu and Nam-gu districts of Ulsan city as research targets, the accessibility of three green spaces was analyzed by a network analysis method based on information regarding the distribution of population and green space and the urban road network. Two indicators for evaluating the service effect of green spaces were service population rate and service area rate. The results showed that the accessibility of the emergency refuge parks (5min) and central refuge parks was relatively good but the service area rate and service population rate of the emergency refuge parks (3min) and temporary refuge parks was less than 60%. In view of the overall situation, the service effect of disaster-prevention green space is at this point only general in Ulsan and there is great room for improvement.

Due to climate change, temperature is rising worldwide. Since rapid growth has been achieved focused on cities, South Korea is experiencing serious environmental problems such as heat island and air pollution in urban areas. To solve this problem, the central and each local government are actively promoting tree planting campaigns. This study quantitatively calculated changes in green areas and vegetation of Gumi by the tree planting campaign, and analyzed the temperature changes accordingly. For the target area, the green area, vegetation index, and ground temperature were calculated for 4 different time periods using the given Landsat satellite images. As a result of the study, the green area of was increased by 7.24km2 and 4.93km2 for two regions, respectively. Accordingly, the vegetation index increased by 0.14 to 0.16, and the temperature decreased by 0.8 to 1.2℃. The Tree planting campaign not only plays a role in lowering the temperature of the city but also does various roles such as air purification, carbon absorption, and providing green rest areas to citizens. Therefore the campaign should be carried out continuously.
This study defined and classified no-net-loss-of-greenness (NNLG) based on the law, and then assessed the NNLG index by metropolitan cities and provinces in Korea after estimating NNLG evaluation indicators for the introduction of NNLG for health improvement of urban ecosystems. The results are as follows. First, NNLG was the comprehensive meaning that was included in the greenbelt and park greenbelt and the green area which was defined by the Act on Urban Parks, Greenbelts, etc. and the National Land Planning and Utilization Act respectively. Second, NNLG was classified as a park greenbelt which was included urban parks and greenbelts such as buffer greenbelts, scenic greenbelts, and connecting greenbelts, green areas which was included in green conservation areas, green production areas, green natural areas, and green coverage which is included forests, grasslands, and wetlands that were occupied by vegetation such as trees, shrubs, and plants. Third, NNLG index by cities and provinces was assessed based on the estimation of NNLG evaluation indicators, which included parks and greenbelt areas per capita, green areas per capita, green coverage per capita, ratio of parks and greenbelts, ratio of green areas, and ratio of green coverage. As a result, Sejong city got the highest point of NNLG index and Seoul and Daegu got lowest points of NNLG index among metropolitan cities in Korea. Chungbuk got the highest point of NNLG index and Kyonggi and Jeju got lowest points of NNLG index among provinces in Korea.

The interest group and corporation in Korea have cultivated Suaeda grass in the source area every year as a plan to prevent the yellow dust due to Chinese desertification. It needs the afforestation analysis about the research area to plan the greenbelt environment development in the region of yellow dust origin. Thus, this research analyzed the greenbelt environment based on Landsat 5 TM satellite image and Landsat 8 image to grasp and analyze the present of greenbelt environment development. And this research analyzed the inside of the salt desert to understand the detailed greenbelt environment and vegetation index. As a result, it represents that the afforestation was accomplished efficiently between 2009 and 2011, while the greenbelt area was decreased rapidly and bare soil was increased between 2011 and 2013. Through these results, we could recognize that it is in trouble about the greenbelt environment development after 2011 and it needs the project implementation using satellite image when the next afforestation project is planned henceforth.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the economic value of an urban landscape. The site of this study was Independence Park in Seoul. Before measuring economic valuation, an amount of view analysis was performed to learn the visual characteristics of the landscape. As a result, the green space ratio of the park is approximately 64%. This study estimates the intrinsic value of an urban landscape that might be included in housing prices using a hedonic price model. The hedonic price model is a statistical analysis that is often used to estimate intrinsic values of certain attributes of a product. The Box-Cox model was adopted as an analysis tool while the housing price for $3.3m^2$ was used as a dependent variable and housing and landscape features as independent variables. Results show that the value of the landscape of the Independence Park is approximately 2.2% of the housing market price. The Landscape variables of the park is the second most significant of the 8 variables. This shows that residents perceived the view of the urban landscape as one of the most significant factors in their living environment. The study also indicates that urban landscapes play important roles in improving quality of life and in influencing housing prices. The implication of the study can be said to be the potential of the urban landscape as a significant urban infrastructure. These results can be used to help make policy decisions to preserve and/or develop urban landscapes.

This study aims to establish an efficient street green area to improve the urban thermal environment and enhance pedestrian thermal comfort. Specifically, This study identified parameters applicable to green space planning and design, analyzed thermal environment mitigation mechanisms for each parameter, and, based on these findings, proposed methods for tree species selection and planting in green space planning and design. To achieve this, 61 papers were selected through a four-stage process from both domestic and foreign sources. The selected papers were analyzed, and the following main results were derived: In open street canyons with high stress levels due to low aspect ratios and high sky view factors(SVF), broadleaf trees with wide crown widths, low trunk heights, high leaf area index(LAI), and high crown heights were found effective in reducing heat, thereby increasing the amount and quality of shade. In contrast, in deep and narrow street canyons with relatively low heat stress due to high aspect ratios and low SVF, broad-leaved trees with narrow crown widths, high trunks, low crown heights, and low LAI were effective in reducing heat by enhancing ventilation. This study can serve as fundamental data for establishing standards for street green spaces to improve the thermal environment of street canyons and enhance thermal comfort of pedestrians. Additionally, it can be valuable when selecting the location and prioritizing street green spaces. Moreover, it is anticipated to be a foundational resource for creating guidelines for green space planning and design in response to climate change.
This study aims to analyze the landscape ecological characteristics of green spaces within built up area of high density and evaluate the potential applicability of green patches, thereby introducing urban garden for generating green networks in residence areas. To this end, Yeoksam-Dong was selected as the site area since it is classified as both green initiative zone and alienated area of park service in Seoul. First, the current condition of green spaces in Yeoksam-Dong was identified by five categories: Street trees, private garden, public pocket garden, rooftop garden, and park. Then, the landscape index analysis through FRAGSTATS and connectivity assessment via multi-buffer zone analysis were carried out for analyzing the green networks and evaluating the potential value of green space. The results showed that the degree to which green areas in the site were distributed is arranged in the order of street tree, private garden, public pocket garden, park, and rooftop garden. In case of the street trees whose total core area (TCA, $1,618m^2$) is as high as the park's ($1,128m^2$). Private garden has potential for green network in built up area of high density by gardening since the shape of the patches are irregular (ED = 78.1m/ha) and the average distance among the patches is close (ENN=33.9m). Public pocket garden has also potential for gardening according to the result that it was found to be distributed evenly (LPI=5.7%, SHEI=0.9) with exposing external disturbance ($TCA=66m^2$). For the green network, 84% of all the study site is covered by small green network in 50m butter range of connected green area. The effect of green network was expected through gardening in public pocket garden (27%) and street tree (26%). Accordingly, it is encouraged to actively utilize street tree, private gardens, and rooftop gardens and to establish the urban gardens like local-based community gardens in public pocket garden where a variety of activities can be carried out near residential areas. By doing so, green networks can effectively be established in built up area with high density. The results of this study can contribute positively to fostering the creation of various types of urban gardens.
