  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of perception of body size on actual clothing style in middle school girls. To achieve this, this study analyzed self-perception of body size, aspired clothing style, and actual clothing style. By classifying groups into thin and thick, the difference in clothing style according to groups was also analyzed. Subjects of this study were middle school girls in Gwangju and 219 responses were collected from real body measurement and questionnaires. WIN SPSS+10.0 package was used to obtain results. Results are as follows: 1. For the self-perception of body size, middle school girls perceived much thicker in the lower body than the upper body. And they were unsatisfactory about the lower body which was perceived thick. 2. In the correlation of actual and aspired clothing style of middle school girls, they wore a aspired clothing style actually. Their actual or aspired upper clothing style was to cover the skin, exposing or covering a body silhouette. Their lower clothing style was a slacks type that covers a body silhouette and the skin. 3. In selecting actual clothing styles, middle school girls were somewhat affected by self-perceived body size. But they did not prefer the clothing styles perceived thick in girth or big in width in exposing the skin or a body silhouette. On the other hand, as it was perceived long, wearing was increased. frequently wore the upper and lower clothing styles of exposing the skin or a body silhouette than the thick group. But both groups wore the clothing styles of covering the skin or a body silhouette regardless of their thinness and thickness. And when wearing the clothing style of exposing neck and shoulder, middle school girls considered actual body size more than self-perceived size. On the other hand, when wearing the clothing style of exposing arms and silhouette by fitted legs, they considered self-perceived body size more.

  • The purpose of this study was to set up an effective marketing strategy targeting college women by researching the relationship between weight control behavior and body exposure in clothing behavior. The results showed that 1) 85.5% of the college women participated in weight control behavior, and 53.5% of them wanted to lose more than 3kg of their weight. 2) College women were less satisfied with their body and thar showed less body exposure in clothing behavior according to the increase of weight control degree. The weight control parts and unsatisfied body parts were almost matched : thigh, abdomen, hip, calf, and weight. College women preferred clothing that exposed neck, legs and shoulder more than clothing that exposed many parts of their body at the same time. 3) exposure in clothing decreased according to the increase of weight control degree, except for the exposure of breast in clothing.

  • In the U.S., outdoor enthusiasts such as golfers have been focused on skin cancer prevention practices since their outdoor activities lead to extensive sun exposure during peak sun hours. The purposes of this study were to investigate golfers current sun protection behaviors and five attributes and their impacts on the intention to adopt UV specialized clothing based on Rogers' theory. UV specialized clothing as a preventive innovation is related to sun protection behaviors. However, there has been little effort to explain the intention to adopt a preventive innovation regarding health-related practices. With a convenience sampling method, a total of 158 useful questionnaires were collected. Ninety one percent were male golfers, and their age ranged from 16 to 80 years old(mean age=30 years). About $25\%$ reported to practice sun protection behaviors. About $70\%$ disagreed on the relative advantage, compatibility, observability, and triability of UV specialized shirts and reported the low intention to purchase it. Current sun protection behaviors and five attribute variables were entered in the multiple regression equation to explain the dependent variable of intention to adopt the innovation. Triability was the best predictor of the intention to adopt UV specialized shirts, followed by current sun protection behaviors, compatibility, and relative advantage. With four predictors, $45\%$ of the variance of intention to adopt was explained. The present study provides how the golfers current sun protection behaviors play important roles in explaining the intention to adopt the preventive innovation. Physical and functional features of UV specialized clothing were also significantly associated with their intentions to adopt it.

  • This study is to determine the effects of PCM concentration on the temperature changes of the air layers of a garment when the environmental temperature changes. The selected PCM was Nonadecane and coated on cotton fabrics with PCM concentrations 10%, 20%, and 30%. The temperature changes of the air layers between fabrics were measured by Human-Clothing-Environment Simulator which measure a dynamic heat transfer. After stabilizing at $34^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour, the multi layered garment system were exposed to $5^{\circ}C$ or $10^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes and then, exposed to $34^{\circ}C$ for 30minutes. The results like following could be obtained. When the environmental temperature changed high to low, temperature of the air layer increased by heating effect of PCM. In the contrast, when the environmental temperature changed low to high, the temperature increase of the air layer was delayed because of cooling effect by PCM. Also, the more concentration of PCM, the bigger the heating effect. Cooling effect showed more clearly at PCM concentration 20%. The temperature differences of the air layers between with PCM fabrics and with non-PCM fabrics were bigger at $10^{\circ}C$ than at $5^{\circ}C$. Consequently, though PCM has influenced on the temperature of the air layer by heating and cooling effect, those effects haven't shown in all layers equally. It was shown that the effect of PCM varied according to the layer in the case of multi layered garment system and heat gain as well as heat loss in the outermost layer had to be taken into account.

  • Agricultural workers who mix/loads and spray pesticide in fields expose to pesticide through dermal and inhalation routes. In such situation, exposed amount should be measured quantitatively for reasonable risk assessment. Patch, gloves, socks and mask will be good materials for monitoring for dermal exposure while personal air monitor equipped with solid adsorbent and air pump will be a tool for inhalation exposure. For extrapolation of absorbed amount in dermal exposure matrices and of trapped amount in solid sorbent to total deraml or inhalation exposure, Korean standard body surface area and respiration rate were proposed in substitution of EPA data. Important exposure factors such as clothing and skin penetration ratio of dermal and inhalation exposure were suggested based on Spraying time for exposure monitoring must be long enough that the amount of pesticide to get absorbed/trapped in exposure matrices results in reasonable analytical value. In domestic case for the both of speed sprayer and power spray machine, spraying time of 20~40 minutes (0.1~0.2 ha) will be reasonable per single replicate before extrapolating to 4 hours a day with triplicates experiment.
