  • Converging-diverging 노즐은 시스템 내부 유동에 적용되는 속도면적 법칙을 통해, 아음속 유동을 초음속으로 만드는 장치이며, 항공기 엔진 등에서 추력을 얻기 위해 쓰인다. 이상기체, 등 엔트로피를 가정한 동일 입구 조건에서, 출구로 빠져나오는 유동의 속도는 오직 면적 비에만 관계한다. 그러나 실제현상에서는, 출구에서의 유속이 유동의 압축성 효과 및 벽면에서의 전단력 등으로 인해 노즐 형상마다 상이한 결과를 낳는다. 본 연구에서는 EDISON Simulation을 활용하여 다양한 노즐 형상에 따른 출구에서의 Mach number를 구하고, 각각의 결과로부터 경향성을 찾는다. 또, 계산 결과를 이론식을 통해 도출되는 결과와 비교한다.

  • A great deal of difficulty is encountered in the thermo-mechanical analyses of nozzle assembly for solid propellant rocket motors. The main issue in this paper is the modeling of the boundary conditions and the connections between the various components-gaps, relative movements of the components, contacts, friction, etc. This paper evaluated the complex phenomena of nozzle assembly during burning time with co-simulation which include fluid, thermal surface reaction/ablation and structural analysis. The validity of this approach was verified by comparison of analysis results with measured strains.

A study on the pintle-tip shapes effect of nozzle flow using cold-flow test (핀틀 형상이 노즐 유동에 미치는 영향에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • The objective of this work was to investigate the pintle-tip shape effect on nozzle flow and thrust by cold flow test. When nozzle throat area was decreased by pintle movement, chamber pressure was increased monotonously but thrust was increased differently according to every pintle-tip shape. At the same chamber pressure and nozzle throat area, thrust of convex pintle-tip shape was mostly larger than that of concave one. Nozzle wall pressure distribution and magnitude of pintle-tip load depended on the pintle-tip shape, pintle position and nozzle throat area.

  • 선박으로부터 배기오염에 대한 국내의 관련 규제들이 강화되면서 관련 기술 개발이 급격하게 이뤄지고 있다. 그 중 탱커선의 화물탱크로부터 배출되는 유중기를 대기중으로 방출하지 않고 회수할 수 있는 설비 관련기술이 개발되고 있다. 회수설비 중 포함되는 스크러버는 가스 속의 부유 고액 미립자를 액을 이용하여 포집하는 장치로서, 스프레이 노즐을 통해 액을 분사하며, 일반적으로 물을 사용한다. 고효율 스크러버 설계기술 개발을 위해 스크러버용 노즐의 성능해석과 유동가시화 실험을 통한 내부유동 특성을 연구하였다.

  • Though rocket nozzle flow is very important to the rocket performance, the direct measurement is very difficult because of high temperature and high pressure gas flow. Then the experiment utilizing the hydraulic analogy has been developed for such a problem. Supersonic flows through an axisymmetric De Laval nozzle of solid rocket motor was simulated in a 2-D sluice-type water-table designed and manufactured utilizing hydraulic analogy. Methods to minimize or account for non-analogous effects in the hydraulic system must be reviewed for the quantitative application of the hydraulic analogy. In this application the water table is inclined slightly, so that gravity acceleration has a small component in the direction of motion, thus compensating for the effect of friction. Flow visualization leads to better understanding of the analogous system. Within the experimental errors, it is shown that the hydraulic analogy can be used as an effective tool for the study of two dimensional isentropic flows of gases in many fields.

  • Effect of elliptical orifice on the spray characteristics of liquid jet ejecting into subsonic crossflows were experimentally studied. Circular/elliptical plain-orifice injectors, which had different ratios of the orifice length to diameter and major axis to minor axis, were used for transverse injection. Compared with the previous research, breakup lengths of elliptical nozzles are shorter than circular nozzles at all experimental condition. Cavitation/hydraulic flip are considered as a reduction in the breakup length at all circular/elliptical nozzle. In the case of liquid column trajectories, major axis which was placed to the crossflows, increases the frontal area of the liquid column exposed to the crossflows. Hence, the aerodynamic force exerted on the jet is increased and the penetration depth is reduced.

  • Numerical simulations have been performed to investigate thrust characteristics of a through-type pintle nozzle with or without flow separation at various operating altitudes. The low Reynolds number $k-{\varepsilon}$ with compressibility correction proposed by Sarkar are applied. The detail flow structures are observed and static pressures along nozzle wall are compared with experimental results. The flow separation in the pintle nozzle disappears and jet plume strongly expands as its operating altitude increases. To evaluate the thrust characteristics, the momentum term and pressure term of thrust are analyzed. Thrust and thrust coefficient at altitude 20 km are about 10% more than them at the ground 0km.

  • Hysteresis phenomena in fluid flow systems are frequently encountered in many industrial and engineering applications and mainly appear during the transient processes of change of the pressure ratio. Shock-containing flow field in supersonic nozzles is typically subject to such hysteresis phenomena, but associated flow physics is not yet understood well. In the present study, experimental work has been carried out to investigate supersonic nozzle flows during the transient processes of change in the nozzle pressure ratio. Time-dependent surface wall pressures were measured by a multiple of pressure transducers and the flow field was visualized using a nano-spark Schlieren optical method. The results obtained show that the hysteresis phenomenon is strongly dependent on the nozzle geometry as well as the time scale of the change of pressure ratio.

  • A computational analysis of nozzle flow characteristics and plume structure is conducted to examine performance of the supersonic nozzle employed in a thruster for ground firing test. At first, flow simulations in two-dimensional converging-diverging nozzle are performed for the verification of computational capability as well as turbulence model validity. Axisymmetric converging-diverging nozzles for ground firing test are analyzed with the k-${\omega}$ SST model. A performance penalty caused by flow separation in a diverging section is observed in initially-designed nozzle. The performance could be enhanced by the modification of the diverging section of nozzle contour.
