Evaluation of Energy Production for a Small Wind Turbine Installed in an Island Area (도서지역 소형풍력발전기 에너지 발생량 평가)

  • This paper presents how to determine AEP(Annual Energy Production) by a small wind turbine in DuckjeokDo island. Evaluation of AEP is introduced to make a self-contained island including renewable energy sources of wind, solar, and tidal energy. To determine the AEP in DuckjeokDo island, a local wind data is analyzed using the annual wind data from Korea Institute of Energy Research firstly. After the wind data is separated in 12-direction, a mean wind speed at each direction is determined. And then, a small wind turbine power curve is selected by introducing the capacity of a small wind turbine and the energy production of the wind turbine according to each wind direction. Finally, total annual wind energy production for each small wind turbine can be evaluated using the local wind density and local energy production considering a mechanical energy loss. Throughout the analytic study, it is found that the AEP of DuckjeokDo island is about 2.02MWh/y and 3.47MWh/y per a 1kW small wind turbine installed at the altitude of 10 m and 21m, respectively.

  • This paper presents annual energy production (AEP) by a 1.5kW wind turbine due to be installed in Deokjeok-Do island. Local wind data is determined by geometric shape of Deokjeok-Do island and annual wind data from Korea Institute of Energy Research at three places considered to be installed the wind turbine. Numerical simulation using WindSim is performed to obtain flow pattern for the whole island. The length of each computation grid is 40 m, and k-e turbulence model is imposed. AEP is determined by the power curve of the wind turbine and the local wind data obtained from numerical simulation. To capture the more detailed flow pattern at the specific local region, Urumsil-maul inside the island, fine mesh having the grid length of 10m is evaluated. It is noted that the input data for numerical simulation to the local region is used the wind data obtained by the numerical results for the whole island. From the numerical analysis, it is found that a local AEP at the Urumsil-maul has almost same value of 1.72 MWh regardless the grid resolutions used in the present calculation. It is noted that relatively fine mesh used for local region is effective to understand the flow pattern clearly.

  • 북한은 전력부족난과 전기품질의 저하로 인하여 주요 생산기업에 지장을 주고 있으며, 노후 발전소의 성능저하도 함께 진행되고 있는 것으로 추정된다. 이에 대한 적절한 대책이 없는 한 그 상황은 더욱 악화될 전망이다. 한반도 에너지 개발기구(KEDO)가 추진하고 있는 경수로 원자력 발전기가 6~7년 후에 준공된다고 해도 이처럼 불안정한 전력계통에 병입되어 원활한 운전이 가능할런지 기대하기 곤란하다. 이러한 실정에서 \circled1 전력부족으로 주파수가 저하될 때 우선 순위가 낮은 부하를 제한하는 자동 부하제한 방식을 포함한 자동 주파수 제어 계통개선 \circled2 기존발전소 성능과 이용을 향상을 위한 재가동(Repowering) 등의 리 엔지니어링 \circled3 가스터빈 복합화력과 열병합발전(Co-generation) 등과 같이 건설기간이 짧고 비용이 적게 들며 송전 설비 건설도 불필요한 분산형 전원의 건설 \circled4 수력발전소와 조력발전소의 건설 \circled5 양수발전 등 전력에너지 저장설비의 개발 \circled6 송전전압격상과 배전방식개선 및 종합전력정보시스템 구축 \circled7 남ㆍ북한 전력계통 내지는 동북아시아 전력계통을 연계하는 평화망사업(Peace Network Project)등의 추진이 경수로 사업에 선행되어야 한다. 특히 러시아, 중국, 한국, 일본의 발전 에너지원 분포와 년간 부하곡선을 고려할 때 동북아시아 전력계통의 연계는 관련국 상호간에 에너지 환경과 경제적 측면에서 상당한 이득과 안정성을 강화해 줄 것이며, 기술발전과 평화공존에 크게 기여 할 것이다. 이를 위하여 관련국의 전력계통연계 전문가들이 참여하는 남\ulcorner북한전력 계통연계연합회(Co-Pia ; Co-rea Power Systems Interconnection Association)와 동북아지역전력 계통연합회(Near Pia=North-Eastern Asia Region Power Systems Interconnection Association)의 구성을 제안하는 바이다. 주요용어(Key Words): 자동주파수 제어(AFC), 리엔지니어링(Re-Engineering), 분산형 전원(Dispersed Generation System), 전력저장(Power Storage), 부하조절기(Load Conditioner), 수요관리(DSM) 연계(Interconnection), 인터시스템(Intersystem), 통합자원계획(IRP), 안전성 강화(Security Enhancement), 전력시장개방(Electricity Free Maket), 통일비용(Unification Expense, Unification Cost), 남ㆍ북한전력계통연계연합회(Co-Pia), 동북아지역전력 계통연계연합회(Nea,-Pia).

Development and Economic Effect of Integrated Optimum Operation System using Wide Area Energy (광역에너지이용 통합 최적화 운전 시스템 개발 및 경제적 효과)

  • This study develops the optimized operation program which enables effective and economic operation between individual and connected branch offices by analyzing the current status and influential indicators of district heating companies' capital branch offices. Accordingly, the study examines the efficiency of optimized operation program. In doing so, this study has diagnosed and analyzed various factors, such as boilers, pumps, and relevant tags (temperature, pressure, fuel amount) through investigation of individual branch offices, and finally succeeded in developing wide-ranging data base by factor covering one-year time period. Additionally, after running the optimized operation program, different branch offices, optimum preference has turned out "incinerator receiving heat from KEPCO>CHP >PLBs>PLBw." Meantime, except the connected offices, there has been no big difference between actual and optimum operation program in branch offices. Meanwhile, the integrated optimum operation program has made it possible the most optimal result only via the connecting supply and demand heat without changing received Heat from KEPCO which is the same as total productive heat. The result has showed that the reduction percentage per day is 2.45~6.80%, and the reduction cost per day is 22,727~60,077 thousand won given the randomly selected sample days. In particular, winter time shows the highest demand with the largest reduction cost whereas summer time illustrates the lowest demand with the smallest reduction cost. Given this result, reduction cost per year compared to actual heat production cost for one year theoretically would be 84 hundred million won. Also, the economic effect showed that the reduction cost percentage per year is more than 2.74% on heat production cost per year for all capital branch offices.

Trend and Prediction of Environmental Resources Consumption in the Korean Peninsula (한반도 단위의 환경자원 소비량 추이와 예측)

  • Trends of food and energy consumptions in South Korea, North Korea, and the Korean Peninsula were shown and consumptions of food and energy for the integrated Korean Peninsula with several Cases were predicted, and the directions for the environmental resources management were suggested in this study. The Food Supply Quantity, the Protein Supply Quantity, and the Food Supply of North Korea were less than those of South Korea, the Eastern Asia, and World after 1990s. However, it is expected that the food consumption in North Korea will increase, if two Koreas are integrated. If the Food Supply Quantity of North Korea is the same as that of South Korea with the maximum projected population of integrated two Koreas by 2055, the food consumption in the Korean Peninsula would increase by 25% compared with the 2011 food consumption of integrated two Koreas. Thus, the choice of diet should be carefully considered and the increase of agricultural productivity is required. Energy consumption in North Korea is very small comparing to that of South Korea and fraction of coal in energy usage of North Korea is very high. If the energy consumption per capita of North Korea after integration be the same as that of South Korea in 2011, the energy consumption in the Korean Peninsula would increase by 45% compared with the 2011 energy consumption of integrated two Koreas. To minimize the environmental effects caused by energy consumption, the energy plan with the reduced fraction of coal in energy supply of North Korea should be adopted and advanced technology with higher efficiency should be applied to establish or expand the energy facility in North Korea.

Global Trends of Bioethanol Science Information (바이오에탄올 학술정보 분석)

  • Recently, an understanding of new sources of liquid hydrocarbons such as bioethanol is economically very important. Bioethanol is actually ethyl alcohol or also referred to as ethanol, identical to drinking alcohol by its composition. There are mainly two ways of producing ethanol, namely by synthesis of hydrocarbons and from biomass. Only the second approach deserves the terminology 'bioethanol'. The present dissertation is also designed with purpose of developing the energy-saving process for the separation of bioethanol. The world population is expected to grow past 8 billion by 2030 which are almost 60% in Asia Pacific. History has shown that energy use rises much faster than population expands. World wide demand for energy will increase significantly during the next 15 years driven by population growth and the transition of emerging markets into the global economy. In developing nations, a smaller increment in GDP per capita yields a higher increment in energy consumption compared to developed countries. In this study, we analised total 2,454 dissertations for the bioethanol during the 2001~2012 periods by the programs of 'web of science' and 'recently developped program by Korea Institute of Science Technology Information'.

Studies on Growth and Biomass Production of Abies koreana Seedlings under Different Relative Light Intensity (상대광도 차이에 따른 구상나무 유묘의 생장과 물질생산에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the growth and biomass production of Abies koreana seedlings under different relative light intensity. The 5-year-old potted seedlings were grown for 24 months under different light intensity of 100%, 50%, 30%, 10% and 2% of the natural full light intensity. The results were as follows: 1. Height growth was similar in the seedlings under different light intensities except in 2% of the full sun light intensity, having shown the lowest height growth. 2. Root collar diameter growth was reduced gradually by decreasing of the relative light intensity. 3. The seedlings which were grown under relatively low light intensity showed the later starting date of the stem growth in the next spring and showed the smaller number of new needles, and the smarter number and the shorter length of new shoot of the seedlings. 4. Total dry mass including the dry mass of leaves, shoot and root was reduced by decreasing of the relative light intensity. 5. In case of the seedling grown in one year shading condition, the ratio of the dry mass of current-year needles and stem to that of the above one-year-old needles and stem was ranged from 0.99$\pm$0.25 to 1.06$\pm$0.06 and was not significally different among the seedlings grown under 100%, 50% and 30% of the relative light intensity. And the radio was ranged from 0.60$\pm$0.04 to 0.52$\pm$0.03 in the seedlings grown under 10% and 2% of the relative light intensity, respectively. In case of the seedling grown in two years shading, the ratio of the dry mass of current-year needles and stem to that of the above one-year-old needles and stem was ranged from 0.79$\pm$0.04 to 1.00$\pm$0.03 and was not significally different among the seedlings grown under 100, 50, 30% and 10% of the relative light intensity. And the ratio was 0.29$\pm$0.03 in the seedlings grown under 2% of the relative light intensity, respectively. 6. T/R ratio of the seedlings grown in one year shading condition was ranged from 3.35$\pm$0.33 to 4.61$\pm$0.25 and was not significantly different among the relative light intensities of 100%, 50%, 30% and 10%. The seedlings grown under 2% of relative light intensity showed the highest T/R ratio of 7.36$\pm$0.15. In case of the two years shadings the T/R ratio was ranged from 1.76$\pm$0.11 to 3.12$\pm$0.19 and increased as relative light intensity decreased except 2.01$\pm$0.14 in 2% of relative light intensity.

바이오디젤 보급을 위한 선결과제

  • 정유사들이 오는 7월부터 2년 동안 바이오디젤을 자발적으로 구매해 경유에 혼합 공급한다. 바이오디젤이란 콩이나 유채, 팜 등에서 추출한 식물성 유지나 폐식용유 등을 원료로 생산한 경우 대체연료로 정부가 지난 2002년부터 시범보급사업이 진행중이다. 그간의 시범보급사업에서 정부는 바이오디젤을 경유에 2:8로 혼합한 BD20 형태를 유지했지만 올해부터는 사정이 달라졌다. 주유소에서 판매가 허용되던 BD20 형태를 유지했지만 올해부터는 사정이 달라졌다. 주유소에서 판매가 허용되던 BD20은 7월 이후 자가 정비시설 등을 갖춘 연료 자가소비처로 유통을 한정하고 그 대신 모든 경유에 5% 이하의 바이오디젤을 혼합, 공급하는 'BD5' 방식을 선택했다. 하지만 'BD5'가 의무적인 것은 아니다. 현재 경유의 법정 품질기준에는 바이오디젤을 지칭하는 '지방산메틸에스테르 함량이 5% 이하까지 혼합할 수 있도록 하는 'BD5'기준이 설정되어 있지만 최저 혼합비율을 설정하지 않아 정유사 마음먹기에 따라서 전혀 혼합하지 않아도 된다. 혼합 가능한 상한선만 정해 있을 뿐 하한선은 없기 때문이다. 이와 관련해 정부는 2008년 월 이후부터 법으로 최저 혼합비율을 명시해 정유사들이 의무적으로 바이오디젤을 섞어 판매할 수 있도록 하겠다는 복안이다. 이에 앞서 정유사들은 지난 3월 산업자원부와 협약을 맺고 올해 7월부터 2008년 6월까지 2년동안 바이오디젤을 자발적으로 구매해 경유에 혼합 공급하겠다고 선언했다. 구매 물량은 연간 9만톤 수준으로 정부가 의도중인 2008년 7월 이후의 본 보급에 앞선 사실상의 마지막 실험 무대가 될 수 있다는 측면에서 중요한 의미를 갖게 된다. 바이오디젤이 대중적으로 보급되기 위해서 필수적으로 갖춰야 하는 원료의 안정적인 수급이나 품질의 안정성, 가격경쟁력 등이 향후 2년간의 과정에서 충분히 검증돼야만 본 보급에 착수할 수 있기 때문이다. 이처럼 중요한 시점에서 바이오디젤시장이 안고 있는 문제점을 점검해 보고자 한다.

ESTIMATION OF ZOOPLANKTION PRODUCTION IN THE SOUTH SEA OF KOREA (한국 남해의 동물성 플랑크톤 생산량 추정)

  • The present paper deals with estimation of zooplankton production in the South Sea of Korea based on the plankton data of the Annual Report of Oceanographic Observations, Fisheries Research and Development Agency, Korea during the period of seven years from 1967 through 1973. Net zooplankton biomass of the layer tipper 150 meters is calculated with an average of $70.2\;mg/m^3$ and gross production in the region $59,800\;km^2$ are about $5.14\~10.27\times10^6\;tons/year$. Mean zooplankton productivity is estimated $86\~172\;tons/km^2/year$.

Global Trends of Unconventional CBM Gas Science Information (비전통 석탄층 메탄가스 학술정보 분석)

  • Methane burns more clearly than any other fossil fuels. Coalbed methane(CBM) is natural gas contained in coal beds. This gas is usually producted from coal that is either too deep or too poor-quality to be mined commercially. While global coalbed methane resource estimates are rough, they indicate between 84 and 377tcm, which compares with proven natural gas reserves of 180tcm. Coalbed methane resources are currently only produced on a major scale in the United States, Canada, Australia and China. In this study, we analysed total 109 published papers for the CBM during the 1990~2012 periods by the programs of 'web of science'. The results of analysis, the CBM study led by the United States, the follow India and Australia. In subject area(web of sciences), Energy Fuels is 57, Engineering 58 and Geology 41 papers, respectively.
