For Barrier-Free certification, the floor and ground surfaces must be finished with materials that are not slippery, flat, and have low-impact in fallis. However, the BF Certification Act does not provide specific methods to meet these regulations. In performance-based design, the responsibility of proving the performance rests with the building owner and architect, so quantitative evaluation indexes are needed to select suitable materials. Furthermore, changes in performance after completion should be checked periodically in 'As-Is' conditions. There are various methods for slips, trips and falls risk assessment, causing confusion for users. In this study, the results of previous studies on the evaluation methods of slips, trips and falls were considered closely, and each quantitative evaluation index that can be used in the new construction and maintenance phase was presented.
The purpose of this study was to calculate three dimensional angular displacements, moments and joint reaction forces of the ankle joint during the waist pulling, and to assess the ankle joint reaction forces according to different perturbation modes and different levels of perturbation magnitude. Ankle joint model was assumed 3-D ball and socket joint which is capable of three rotational movements. We used 6 cameras, force plate and waist pulling system. Two different waist pulling systems were adopted for forward sway with three magnitudes each. From motion data and ground reaction forces, we could calculate 3-D angular displacements, moments and joint reaction forces during the recovery of postural balance control. From the experiment using falling mass perturbation, joint moments were larger than those from the experiment using air cylinder pulling system with milder perturbation. However, JRF were similar nevertheless the difference in joint moment. From this finding, we could conjecture that the human body employs different strategies to protect joints by decreasing joint reaction forces, like using the joint movement of flexion or extension or compensating joint reaction force with surrounding soft tissues. Therefore, biomechanical analysis of human ankle joint presented in this study is considered useful for understanding balance control and ankle injury mechanism.
Dynamic postural control varies with the environmental context, specific task and intentions of the subject. In this paper, dynamic postural control against forward-backward perturbations of a platform was estimated using tri-axial accelerometers and a force plate. Ten young healthy volunteers stood upright in comfortable condition on the perturbation system which was controlled by an AC servo motor. With anterior-posterior perturbations, movements of ankle, knee and hip Joints were obtained by tri-axial accelerometers. and ground reaction forces with corresponding displacements of the center of pressure(CoP) by the force plate. The result showed that the ankle moved first and the trunk forward, which implies that the mechanism of the dynamic postural control in forward-backward perturbations, occurred in the procedure of the ankle, the knee and the hip. Knee flexion and hip extension in the period of acceleration, constant velocity and deceleration phase is very important fur the balance recovery. These responses depends on the magnitude and timing of the perturbation. From the present study the accelerometry-system appears to be a promising tool for understanding kinematic accelerative In response to a transient platform perturbation. A more through understanding of balance recovery mechanism may aid in designing methods for reducing falls and the resulting injuries.
In this paper, biomechanical aspects of dynamic대학교postural responses against forward perturbations were experimentally determined simultaneous measurements of joint angles, accelerations. EMG activations, center of pressure(CoP) movements and ground reaction forces(GRF), Thirteen young healthy volunteers, stood on a flat platform, were translated into the forward direction by an AC servo-motor at two separate velocities(0.1m and 0.2m/s). In order to recover postural balance against the forward perturbation, joint motions were observed in the sequence of the ankle dorsiflexion, the knee flexion and then the hip flexion during the later acceleration phase. Both acceleration patterns at the heel and the sacrum were shown the forward acceleration pattern during the later acceleration phase and early of constant velocity phase as increasing platform velocity, respectively. Tibialis anterior(TA) for the ankle dorsiflexion and biceps femoris(BF) for the knee flexion. the primary muscle to recover the forward perturbation, was activated during the half of acceleration phase. Ankle strategy was used for slow-velocity perturbation, but mixed strategy of both ankle and hip used for the fast-velocity perturbation. In addition, parameters of perturbation such as timing and magnitude influenced the postural response against the perturbation.
This acticle describes the control method of mobile robots for avoiding slip and turnover on sloped terrain. An inexpensive gyro/vision sensor module is suggested for obtaining the information of terrain at present and future. Using the terrain information and the robot state, the maximum limit velocity of the forward velocity of the robot is defined fur avoiding slip and turnover of the robot. Simultaneously the maximum value of the robot velocity is reflected to an operator in the form of reflective force on a forte feedback joystick. Consequently the operator can recognize the maximum velocity of the robot determined by the terrain information and the robot state. In this point of view, the inconsistency of the robot movement and the user's command caused by the limit velocity of the robot can be compensated by the reflective force. The experimenal results show the effectiveness of the suggested method.
Fall accident is the most frequent accident type of occupational accidents. As the age of workers increases, trip and fall accident increases more than other types of occupational accident in the middle-aged group. In this study, the gait characteristics of 25 middle-aged participants (mean ages 47.4, S.D. 5.8) were studied to analyze the trip and fall risks. The Minimum toe clearance(MTC) against the floor surface was measured in the variable conditions of gait speed by a motion capture system. In the 50s age group, the MTC decreased and the MTC tended to reduce the variation with increasing walking speed in the level walking. Therefore, the trip and fall risks for the 50s age group is higher than the 40s age group. Especially, the faster walking speed will increase the trip and fall risks even more.
