Injection molding is one of plastic forming technology which can easily mass-produce plastic parts with various and even complex shape. The technology has lots of difficulties in making a good part due to phase change of material, high applied pressure, and fast melt flow speed in the cavity. To overcome the problems, they had to make trial and error method until the CAE(Computer Aided Engineering) could be a tool for concurrent engineering. In this paper, we investigate the optimal design for a plastic DVD tray part by systematic approach of the commercial CAE program. In design, we should consider two objectives which are both dimensional stability and cost-down. The dimension of the part is crucial because the tray should carry a DVD correctly, but the part is too thin to injection-mold easily. In order to improve the moldability, the mold is designed in the form of stack mold which is a kind of 4 hot runner system. In first, we changed the stack-mold system with one hot-runner to cost down, and decided the optimal position of the gate. After that, we investigate the effect of both the layout of cooling channels and the cooling temperature on the shrinkage of the DVD tray. A optimal simulation approach, the gate design is 2Gate#3 and the layout is Case2 cooling line as the optimal temperature of $70^{\circ}C$. The Moldflow and PC+ABS are used for the CAE program and material respectively.

Three liquid cooling heat exchangers for cooling of telecommunication equipment were designed and their cooling performances were tested. The liquid cooling heat exchangers had twelve rectangular channels $(5\times3 mm)$ with different flow paths of 1, 4, and 12. Silicon rubber heaters were used to provide heat flux to the test section. Heat input was varied from 75 to 400 W, while flow rate and inlet temperature of working fluid were altered from 1.2 to 4.0 liter/fin and from 15 to 3$30^{\circ}C$, respectively. The 4-path heat exchanger showed lower and more uniform average inner temperatures between heaters and the surface of heat exchanger than those of the others. To obtain optimal distribution of working fluid to each channels of liquid cooling heat exchangers, 2-3-2 and 4-3 type tube distributors were designed, and their distribution performances of working fluid were numerically and experimentally investigated. The distributor of the 2-3-2 type showed superior distribution performance compared with those of the 4-3 type distributor.

In this study, Al2O3 and H-ZSM-5 were coated on the inner wall of the stainless steel tube for the stable use of liquid hydrocarbon fuel and an endothermic catalyst used as coolant for hypersonic flying vehicles. Coke production is inevitable by the endothermic decomposition reaction of the liquid hydrocarbon fuel, and Fe, Ni metals induce the production of the filamentous coke by using a stainless steel tube reactor as a cooling channel. By coating the stainless steel with H-ZSM-5, Fe and Ni metals are prevented from being directly exposed to the liquid hydrocarbon fuel, and the formation of the filamentous coke is inhibited. In addition, Al2O3 is coated between the stainless steel and H-ZSM-5 to enhance adhesion bond strength.
Increased demand of power-transformer's capacity inevitably results in an excessive temperature rise of transformer components, which in turn requires improved radiator design. In this paper, numerical simulation of the cooling performance of an ONAN-type (Oil Natural Air Natural) radiator surrounded by air was performed by using CFX. The natural convection of the air was treated with the full-model. The present parametric study considers variation of important variables that are expected to affect the cooling performance. We changed the pattern and cross-sectional area of flow passages, the fin interval, the flow rate of oil and shape of flow passages. Results show that the area of flow passage, the fin interval, the flow rate of oil and shape of flow passages considerably affect the cooling performance whereas the pattern of flow passages is not so much influential. We also found that for the case of the fin interval smaller than the basic design, the temperature drop decreases while a larger interval gives almost unchanged temperature drop, indicating that the basic design is optimal. Further, as the flow rate of oil increases, the temperature drop slowly decreases as expected. On the other hand, when the shape of flow passages are changed, temperature drop is increased, indicating that the cooling performance is enhanced thereupon.

In Korea, the summer is hot and humid, and much electricity is consumed for air conditioning. Thus, the simultaneous usage of an indirect evaporative cooler and a common air conditioner could reduce the sensible heat and save electricity. This study developed a U-type cross-counter flow indirect evaporative cooler (IEC) made of plastic and paper. The efficiencies were compared with those of a cross-flow IEC. The specimen was $500mm{\times}500mm{\times}1000mm$. the results show that the indirect evaporation efficiencies of the cross-counter flow sample were 6-21% higher than those of the cross-flow sample. The pressure drops of the cross-counter sample were 51-66% higher. Thermal analysis based on the -NTU method predicted the experimental data within 10%. The electrical energy saved by the use of the cross-counter flow IEC was larger than that of the counter flow IEC, and the difference increases with the velocity. However, the the cross-counter IEC is two times larger than the cross-flow IEC, which may increase the material cost and water usage.

Numerical analysis by SIMPLE algorithm has been performed to predict the characteristics of flow and heat transfer in channels between the printed circuit boards of an electronic cabinet. It is assumed that the electronic parts release uniform heat flux per unit axial length to the cooling air. The air flow between channels is assumed fully developed laminar, incompressible, and mixed convective. In this study, the electronic parts are mounted on both sides of the prinked circuit boards by two kinds of configuration such as the zig-zag and the symmetric one. The Rayleigh numbers ranging from 0 to 10$^{6}$ are considered to predict the characteristics of the main flow and the secondary flow occurred by natural convection, the temperature distribution in channel, the heat transfer rate from heated electronic parts and the increase of friction factor by natural convection. As the results of numerical calculation, several conclusions are drawn as follows. The influence of natural convection on the flow characteristics appears strong when the Rayleigh number is above 10$^{4}$. The main axial flow rate decreases by a half or more at the Rayleigh number of 10$^{6}$ . Although the friction factor increases as Rayleigh number increases, the increasing rate of heat transfer is higher than that of the friction factor. The cooling efficiency of the zig-zig-configuration is superior to that of the symmetric configuration at same Rayleigh number.

When a molten corium is relocated in a lower head of a reactor vessel, the ERVC (External Reactor Vessel Cooling) system is actuated as coolant is supplied into a reactor cavity to remove a decay heat from the molten corium during a severe accident. To achieve this severe accident mitigation strategy, the two-phase natural circulation flow in the annular gap between the external reactor vessel and the insulation should be formed sufficiently by designing the coolant inlet/outlet area and gap size adequately on the insulation device. For this reason, one-dimensional natural circulation flow tests were conducted to estimate the natural circulation flow under the ERVC condition of APR1400. The experimental facility is one-dimensional and scaled-down as the half height and 1/238 rectangular channel area of the APR1400 reactor vessel. As the water inlet area increased, the natural circulation mass flow rate asymptotically increased, that is, it converged at a specific value. And the circulation mass flow rate also increased as the outlet area, injected air flow rate, and outlet height increased. But the circulation mass flow rate was not changed along with the external water level variation if the water level was higher than the outlet height.
Recently, there has been an increase in additive manufacturing for the fabrication of liquid rocket engines. This technology can innovate conventional fabrication methods to reduce the lead time and manufacturing cost and can enhance the performances such as weight reduction. In this study, a literature survey is presented that includes types, advantages, disadvantages, and foreign government-based projects of the technology related to liquid rocket engine manufacturing. The present survey focuses on the technology that has been applied to various components such as turbopumps and valves while much larger efforts are made for combustion chambers with regenerative cooling channels and diverging nozzles, as the advantages of the technology are maximized for the applications.

Porous media have especially large surface area per volume, which contain complex fluid passage. If porous media can be applied to cool a CPU or an electronic device with large heat dissipation, it could result in heat transfer enhancement due to the enlargement of the heat transfer area and the flow disturbance. This study is aimed to identify the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of high-porosity metal foams in a horizontal channel. Experiment is performed with the various heat flux, velocity and pore density conditions. Permeabilities, which is deduced from Non-Darcy flow model, become lower with increasing pore density. Nusselt number also decreases with higher pore density. High pore density with same porosity case shows higher pressure loss due to the increase of surface area per unit volume. The fiction factor decreases rapidly with increase of Reynolds number in Darcy flow region. However, it converges to a constant value of the Ergun coefficient in Non-Darcy flow region.
Plastic products are producted more than 70% of total processes in the injection molding. The injection molding process has 4 processes such as filling, packing, cooling and ejecting. It spends most of times in the cooling process. Therefore, it is important to control the mold temperature in producing plastic products. The time and system of cooling affect the product's quality and productivity. Especially, cooling time has about 60% of total injection cycle time. Therefore, we can improve a productivity by shortening cooling time. In this study, it was made a comparative study about cooling of linear channels and baffles and observed the variation of mold temperature on the coolant's temperature. As the result, the linear channel's cooling rate had faster than baffles and as coolant's temperature was increased, difference of cooling time was increased. Result of this study will be used widely to design for cooling system of injection mold.
