전자장비 캐비넷의 냉각특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An experimental study on the cooling characteristics of electronic cabinet)

  • High-power electronic chips have been advanced to such an extent that the heat dissipation capability of a system design has become one of the primary limiting factors. Therefore, thermal design must be considered in the early stage of the electronic system development. In present paper, the results of an experimental study on the forced convection cooling are presented to evaluate cooling performance of an electronic cabinet which in generally used for telecommunication system. Temperatures and thermal resistances are applied to compare the heat transfer characteristics for various locations of a fan unit as well as various configuration of non-uniform powering modules. As a result, the optimal configuration of a fan unit and powering configuration is suggested for the effective thermal design of telecommunication system.

  • The Injection molding is used more than 70% of total production in plastic products. The injection molding process has 4 processes such as filling, packing, cooling and ejecting. now then, cooling process spends the most of times in Injection molding cycle time. Therefore, it is important to control the mold temperature in producing plastic products. The cooling system and time affect the product's quality and productivity. Especially, cooling time has about 60% of total injection cycle time. Therefore, we can improve a productivity by shortening cooling time. In this study, the rapid cooling system was developed and performed a efficiency test. This system could refrigerate coolant to $1^{\circ}C$ and had to need 10 minutes for normal operating.

  • In order to investigate the effects of various injection hole shapes on the film cooling of turbine blade, three test models having cylindrical and shaped holes were used. A three-dimensional Navier-Stokes code with standard k-$\epsilon$ model was used to compute the film cooling coefficient on the film cooled turbine blade. Over 330,000 grids were used to compute the flow over the blade. Mainstream Reynolds number based on the cylinder diameter was $7.1{\times}10^4$. The turbulence intensity kept at $5.0\%$ for all inlets. The effect of coolant blowing ratio was studied for various blowing ratios. For each blowing ratios, wall temperatures around the surface of test model were calculated. Temperature was visualized using cartesian cut-cell method to obtain traces of the injected secondary air on the test surface, so we could interpret the film effectiveness as temperature distributions.

  • A numerical simulation has been carried out for the engine cooling system. It is the important element to analysis of heat transfer process in cooling system for an automotive engine. Thus, the purpose of this simulator is to present useful information at the early stages of the design of the cooling system by enabling the development engineer to predict performance trends. This program has useful window interface for analysis of the cooling system and it is convenient for user to control data with relational database. The system was simulated and compared with experimental data. As a result, the inlet, outlet temperature of the radiator by the simulator agrees well with it. It is concluded that this simulation program is available in developing the cooling system for a new car.

  • Recently, environmental pollution has become a serious problem in industry, and many researches have been done in order to preserve the environment. The coolant, which promotes lubrication, cooling and penetration, contains chlorine, sulfur and phosphorus to improve the machining efficiency. These additives, which move around into the air during machining, pollute working. Therefore, many researches on how to reduce the amount of coolant during machining have been carried out. However, to reduce even small amount of coolant causes high temperature of a workpiece and it brings thermal defects. In this study, the experiments of wet & dry grinding using cooling methods (using coolant only, mist and compressed cold air only) are performed to solve the problem of environmental contamination and to get a better surface integrity of a workpiece by comparing surface roughness, roundness and residual stress.

  • Rapid development of electronic technology requires small size, high density packaging and high power of electronic devices. So, in this paper, characteristics on oscillating heat pipe according to operating conditions(environment temperature, charging ratio of working fluid, inclination) based on experimental study was investigated. From the experimental results, $25^{\circ}C$environment temperature), R-141b(working fluid)40%(charging ratio) was best performace at others of inclination angle and The top heating mode of OCHP performed 80% efficiency of the bottom heating mode.

  • The objective of the present work is to investigate an effect on the solution crystallization temperature difference and the cooling capacity of the absorption chiller by a solution cooler in the absorber. The cooling capacity of the absorption chiller can be higher, with the enhanced performance of the solution heat exchangers. But, because the solution crystallization temperature difference becomes smaller at the absorber inlet, the heat capacity of the solution heat exchangers might be limited by the danger of crystallization, which can cause the serious damages. In this paper, the heat capacity ratio of the solution cooler is defined as the ratio of the heat capacity of the solution cooler to that of the absorber. If it becomes larger in the additional type solution cooler, the solution crystallization temperature difference is augmented and the cooling capacity is also increased.

  • The experiments have been carried out to evaluate the cooling performance of a fan-aluminum foam heat sink assembly in comparison with a conventional CPU cooler. In terms of the dimensionless surface temperature of the heater, the cooling performance of the aluminum foam heat sink is similar to that of the conventional one with much reduced weight. The optimum fin height is found to be strongly dependent on the fin height of the heat sink and flow characteristics of the cooling fan.

  • As motor performance enhancement by improving electric design has reached its limit and downsizing issue has risen, the importance of thermal design is increasing. In this study, the flow and temperature distribution were reviewed with the help of CFD analysis and this result was compared with the experimental results. Furthermore, parametric analysis with thermal design structure showed that axial duct width but fan capacity is a critical factor to lower the hot spot temperature in electric motor.

  • The numerical study was carried out to effectively cool Induction motor applied to a washing machine. The outer rotor made of steel periodically spins up and down. The stator consists of the thin layered iron plates and copper coil. The effective cooling system is necessary to solve the reliability problem caused by the electric losses at the coil and the iron plate. Because the heat transfer rate of the natural convection in partially open space is generally low, thus it is necessary to enhance the heat transfer using rotating perforated plate. The flow phenomena around the motor are very complex due to the motor geometry and the outer rotor motion. The mixed convection takes place due to the slow rotation speed. The three dimensional flow simulation was performed using rotating reference frame technique and Boussinesq approximation but the radiation effect was neglected. It was found that the angle and direction of the cooling blades play an important role in the stator temperature.
