Detecting the Remaining Kids in a School Bus and Designing a Warning System based on an Ultrasonic Sensor (초음파 센서 기반 통학 차량에 남겨진 유아 감지 및 경고 시스템 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a detection and warning system is proposed for the remaining kids in a school bus. For detecting the remaining kids, an ultrasonic sensor is used. The basic experiments of the ultrasonic sensor are performed, and a modified ultrasonic sensor is proposed. Also, the appropriate location of the ultrasonic sensor is proposed by considering various sitting positions. Based on the above kid detection system, a warning algorithm is designed. Using the above detection and warning system, experiments are performed. From the experimental results, it is found that the proposed system, based on the modified ultrasonic sensor, can detect the remaining kids in a school bus. The proposed system can also give an appropriate warning signal.

Newspaper and Teacher Constructions of Children of Migrant Parents in Rural China (교사들과 신문 보도를 통해서 본 중국 농촌 학교에서의 유수(留守) 아동(left behind children))

  • This study explores and compares how rural teachers and Chinese newspapers representing the dominant ideology of the state and the local government construct left behind children's problems and solutions. I draw on teacher interviews in two rural schools and the reports of three major Chinese newspapers (2011 to 2015). Teacher and media narratives largely agreed that parental absence and negative mental health consequences were the biggest source of the problem, placing the blame largely on families. However, the narratives diverged when discussing solutions as teachers largely sought institutional structural solutions while the media emphasized the individual role that volunteers could play. School-based activities and teachers' contributions extensively discussed in teacher interviews were muted from newspaper reports that emphasized contributions from government officials and local representatives.

Design of Safety School Bus System Using RFID (RFID를 활용한 안전 스쿨버스 시스템 설계)

  • As the use of school buses becomes more common, related laws are being enacted, such as making it mandatory for children to check school bus dropouts due to frequent accidents caused by the negligence of school bus drivers and their guardians. In this paper, we propose a safe school bus system that links efficient radio-frequency identification (RFID) and mobile APP in terms of energy utilization and cost. The school bus system uses RFID cards to check information on children boarding the school bus, and real-time SMS transmission allows parents to safely send their children to and from school. Instructors on the school bus can check their children's disembarkation information once more through APP, preventing various accidents that may occur to children left on the bus. Due to the automation of the school bus operation log, daycare center teachers can not only check the information on getting on and off, but also manage the information on the attendance and discharge of the students.

A qualitative study on the experiences of community child center workers to deal with the mental health of children and adolescents (지역아동센터 종사자의 아동청소년정신건강 문제 대처경험에 관한 질적 연구)

  • This study aimed to explore the experiences of community child center workers about how they have dealt with the mental health of children and adolescents who use such centers. For this study, we used a sample of ten community child center workers, who were divided into two groups and who participated in four focus group interviews. The results revealed four themes and twelve sub-themes: "the reality of facing children's mental health issues," "dealing with children's mental health issues and limitations," "know-hows accumulated from experiences and visible changes," and "remaining tasks--the workers who cannot give all." Based on the results the implications of promoting the mental health of children at community child centers were discussed.
