  • The physical properties and the dyeability of the nylon S fibers Prepared by high speed spinning according to godet roller draw ratio form 1.1 to 1.6 were investigated. The strains of nylon 6 fibers were decreased against the increase of the godet roller draw ratio. The stresses of nylon 6 fibers were increased with the increase of the godet roller draw ratio. Birefringences, densities and crystallinities of the nylon 6 fibers were increased with the increase of godet roller draw ratio In DSC diagrams, the $\gamma$ form of crystal became dominant at higher godet roller draw ratio. The dye uptakes of C. 1. Acid Blue 113 on the fibers were decreased against the increase of godet roller draw ratio.

  • In recent years, a number of metal machine parts, in the field of the car manufactures and electronic goods for home, have been replaced by nylon-6 in order to weight, cost, and a period of process of manufacture. It's because nylon-6 materials as an industrial material have higher economical and productive advantage than the metalic ones. However, in domestic injection manufactures, there are few data on fiber glass synthetic on nylon-6. It is said that plastic in process of manufacture using the same injection materials make their results different in large scale according to fiber glass synthetic rate conditions. In this study, we have studied effects of the glass fiber synthetic rate on the characteristics of fatigue failure for nylon-6.

  • Pyrotechnic devices are widely used for space appendages. However, a cube satellite requirements do not permit the use of explosive pyrotechnic device. A nichrome burn wire release has typically been used for holding and release of deployable appendages of the cube satellite due to its simplicity and low cost. However, relatively low mechanical constraint force and system complexity for application of multi-deployable systems are disadvantages of the conventional mechanism. To overcome these drawbacks, we developed a hinge driving segmented nut type holding and release mechanism based on the nichrome burn wire release. The functional performance of the mechanism has been verified through release function test, static load test and shock level measurement test.

  • This paper investigates the physical properties of aramid and aramid/nylon hybrid air jet textured filaments for protective garments relative to ATY nozzle diameters. Three types of para-aramids(840d, 1,000d, 1,500d) and nylon(420d) filaments were prepared; in addition, 840d aramid/420d nylon and three kinds of aramid filaments were texturized with a variation of air jet nozzle diameters(0.6, 0.75, 1 and 1.2 mm) on the AIKI air jet texturing machine. The measured physical properties of 16 specimens are as follows. The linear densities of aramid and aramid/nylon hybrid ATY increased with a larger nozzle diameter. The tenacity and initial modulus of aramid and hybrid ATY linearly decreased with a larger nozzle diameter; in addition, the breaking strain increased with the nozzle diameter. The dry and wet thermal shrinkage of hybrid ATY increased with a larger nozzle diameter from 0.6 mm to 1 mm and then decreased at a nozzle diameter of 1.2 mm (which seems to be a critical diameter). The wet and dry thermal shrinkage of aramid/nylon hybrid ATY are influenced by the nylon part of the hybrid yarns because the wet and dry thermal shrinkages of aramid ATY are less than 0.2%. The instabilities of aramid and aramid/nylon hybrid ATY were not influenced by the air jet nozzle diameter; however, they increased with the linear density of ATY.

  • Nylon 6 ultramicrofiber(UMF, monodenier 0.074d) and regular staple fiber(monodenier 2.05d) were dyed with acid and disperse dyes to investigate the effect of the difference of the fiber fineness. Also X-ray diffraction pattern, birefringence, DSC thermogram, moisture regain and water absorption of these fibers are measured. The dyeing rate of nylon UMF with acid dyes is increased compared with that of regular fiber, but not increased for disperse dyes. Also the saturation dye uptake of UMF with acid dyes is higher than that of regular fiber, while it is unchanged for disperse dyes. The moisture regain of UMF is similar to the regular fiber, whereas the water absorption of UMF is two times th그n that of the regular fiber. The crystallinity percentage of UMF is higher than that of regular fiber.

  • Nylon 6 staple ultramicrofiber(UMF, 0.074) and regular staple fiber (Regular, 2.0d) were annealed at In, 130, 160 and $180^\circ{C}$ under tension free for 10 min and U min. The treated fibers were dyed with Acid Red 18 and Blue n3. They were adjusted at PH 5.0 of dye bath in buffer solution of $CH_3COOH/CH_3/COONa(0.1mo1/1)$. Liquor ratio was kept at 1000:1. Dyeing rate of UMF annealed at $100^\circ{C}$ was decreased, but was increased for regular nylon. Also dye equilibrium of UMF at $100^\circ{C}$ was increased for Acid Red 18, but was decreased for Acid Blue 83. The intensities of X-ray diffraction peaks of UMF increased with increasing annealing temperature. Also the crystallinity of heat-sotted fibers by DSC thermogram was well agreed with the tendency of density Amino end group, moisture regain and water absorbency were decreased with increasing annealing temperature.

  • The pneumatic muscle actuator consists of an air bellows tube with two end-flanges. The air bellows tube is made from rubber layers and flexible sheathing formed from nylon 6 fibers. This structure can be stretched or compressed to convert the radial expansive forces into contractile forces. We performed the finite element analysis and the performance test of pneumatic muscle actuator. Also, the pneumatic muscle actuator was manufactured and tested by home-made tester. The results of FEA was similar with performance test below the maximum error of 42 %.

  • Nylon 6 was blended with a brominated epoxy resin, tetrabromobisphenol A diglycidyl ether (DGEBBA), to enhance flame retardant property. Thermal properties of the blends were analyzed by DSC. Melting point and crystallization temperature decreased as the amount of epoxy resin increased. Melt index and relative viscosity decreased as the amount of the epoxy resin increased. When the blended amount of the epoxy resin was below 5%, the melt index decreased while the relative viscosity slightly increased. The blend resin was successfully spun into fiber without swelling or drawing the resonance phenomena. However, both the tenacity and elongation of the fiber decreased by increasing the amount of the DGEBBA.

  • Nylon 6 grafted with polyacrylamide(PAAm) was synthesized by a dispersion polymerization method at 6$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours, and a cresol-soluble graft polymer(CSGP) and water-dispersable graft polymer (WI)GP) were separated. Infra-red(IR) spectrum analysis, differential scanning calorimetery(DSC), thermogravimetery(TG), and X-ray diffraction analysis were carried out to research their structural characteristics.

  • Polyaniline(PAn)-nylon 6 composite fabrics were prepared by immersing the nylon 6 fabrics in 100% distilled aniline for specified diffusion time and drawn out. Then the excess aniline on the fabric surface was blotted and successive polymerization was initiate by immersing them into oxidant and dopant solution for in situ polymerization of polyaniline. Consequently highly conductive PAn-nylon 6 composite fabrics could be obtained and the conductivity reaches as high as 10-2 S/cm. The maximum conductivity was obtained when the fabric was immersed in 100% aniline at 4$0^{\circ}C$ for 3hours and polymerization was proceeded in 0.25M ammonium peroxydisulfate solution at 5$^{\circ}C$ for 1hour.
