Acute Toxicity Study of Yan-Sheng Health Liquid in Rats and Mice (랫드와 마우스에서 연생호보액의 급성 경구 독성 시험에 관한 연구)

  • The acute toxicity of orally administered Yan-Sheng health liquid (YSHL), water extracts from twelve Chinese drugs (Cervi Cornu, Lonicerae Flos, Foeniculi Fructus, Glycyrrhizae Radix, Liriopis Tuber, Raphani Semen, Bombyx, Ginseng Radix alba, Cinnamomi loureirii Cortex, Epimedii Herba, Zingiberis Rhizoma, Lycii Fructus) was evaluated in male and female Sprague-Dawley rats and ICR mice. Rats and mice aging 5 weeks were gavaged with 0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.4, 6.7, 10.0, 66.7, or 100.0 ml/kg of YSHL. No animal died by oral treatment and no toxic symptom was observed in the treated animals during 5 days. The body weight of the treated animals was not significantly different from the controls. The results of macroscopic examination on the organs of the treated animals revealed no abnormal findings. Therefore, it was concluded that YSHL was practically non-toxic when it was orally administered to rats and mice, and its LD50 was suspected to be greater than 100 ml/kg in rats and mice.

Planning Guidelines for Outdoor Space in the Apartment Complex by Investigating Usage Behavior (이용행태조사를 통한 아파트 외부공간 계획방안에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the outdoor space of the recent built apartment complex in Ulsan and to provide the basic information for planning and apartment outdoor space. Multiple methods were utilized such as questionnaire, observation, behavior-mapping, and photography. The sample consisted of 382 residents living in four apartment complex in Ulsan. data were analyzed by frequency and percentage using SPSS PC+. The observation was performed in seven outdoor space, i.e., green area, road area, exercise area, play area, parking area, and approach area. According to the findings of this study, residents did not actively involve in outdoor activities and seldom use the outdoor space. Various changes and erosions were observed as a trace, especially near fence and grass area because of unplanned location of entrances. Finally this study suggested several planning guidelines for outdoor space in apartment complex.

  • 현재의 경영환경은 기업경영에 긍정적 또는 부정적인 영향을 미칠 Event가 다양하고 예측이 어려워지고 있는 상황에 직면하고 있다. 반면에 각종 경영상의 규정과 규제는 주주와 시장의 입장에서 기업의 경영의 투명성과 신뢰성을 요구하고 있다. 대표적으로 금융산업은 Basel II, 미국증시에 상장된 기업은 SOA라 불라는 Sarbanes-Oxley법안, 국내기업은 집단소송제, 외감법, 증권거래법 등에 기업의 경영 성과와 재무제표에 대한 경영진의 서명 및 외부감사인의 검토를 규정하고 있다. 경영진은 전략적인 목적 달성에 영향을 미치는 내외부에서 발생하는 상황과 규정/규제에 대한 대응현황을 종합적으로 판단해야만 하게 되었다. 이러한 상황에서 2004년 9윌 Committee of Sponsoring Organization of the Treadway Commission(이하 COSO)에서는 Enterprise Risk Management Framework을 발표하였다. 이는 기존 내부통제(Internal Control) 개념을 확장/보완한 개념으로 전사적 관점에서 기업에 영향을 미치는 Event를 식별하고 통제하는 일련의 과정을 정의 하고 있다. 대부분 기업에서는 법규와 규정중심의 대응을 추진하고 있는 현황이며, 추진 과정시 리스크에 대한 개념이나 관리 수준에 대한 혼란을 격고 있다. 리스크 정의시 일관된 관점을 유지할 수 있는 관리 범주와 관리 목적의 부재를 제기하고 있며, 일회적인 관리가 아닌 정례화된 프로세스로 운영하도록 하는 관리체계 정립을 위한 방법론이나 실행가이드를 필요로 하고 있다. 이에 새로운 관리체계로서 Enterprise Risk Management(이하 ERM) 도입을 위하여 ERM에 대한 명확한 이해와 적용시 주요이슈에 대한 실천적 해결안을 제시하는 것을 본 연구의 목적으로 삼고자 한다

Acute and Subacute Oral Toxicity of $HELIKIT^{TM}$ in Rats (흰주에서 $HELIKIT^{TM}$의 급성 및 아급성 경구독성시험)

  • Acute and subacute oral toxicity of $HELIKIT^{TM}$ ($^{13}C-urea$) were carried out in Sprague-Dawley rats of both sex. The toxicity of $HELIKIT^{TM}$ was compared with urea($^{12}C-urea$ which is used for control). In acute toxicity studies, we daily examined number of deaths, clinical signs, body weights and pathological examination for 14 days after single oral administration of HELIKIT or urea($^{12}C-urea$) at a dose of 5000 mg/kg. The subacute oral toxicity was investigated in Sprague-Dawley rats treated with $HELIKIT^{TM}$ at a dose of 40, 200 and 1,000 mg/kg/day or $^{12}C-urea$ at a dose of 1,000 mg/kg/day for 4 weeks. In acute toxicity studies, $HELIKIT^{TM}$ and urea did not show any toxic effect in rats and oral LD50 value was over 5,000 mg/kg rats. In subacute toxicity studies, no death occured and no drug-related changes were found in clinical observations; body weight, food consumption, opthalmoscopy. auditory test, urinalysis, hematology, blood chemistry, gross pathological examination or organ weight between $HELIKIT^{TM}$, urea and control groups. In histopathological examinations, the slight thickening of mucosa of the limiting ridge in the stomach was noted in the animals treated with $HELIKIT^{TM}$ at a dose of 1,000 mg/kg/day and also the changes in urea group at a dose of 1,000 mg/kg/day was found, but all of these changes in the changes in ures group at a dose of 1,000 mg/kg/days was found, but all of these changes in the stomach regressed after withdrawal of the test article for 2 weeks and reversibility of the effect was revealed. These results indicate that the non toxic dose level of $HELIKIT^{TM}$ was 1,000 mg/kg/day in the 4 weeks-repeated dose study, suggesting that the substitution of $^{13}C$ for carbon in urea molecule has no effect on the toxicity of urea and changes in stomach are reversible.

A study on Left turn Capacity by Bay Length (Bay길이에 따른 좌회전 용량산정에 관한 연구)

  • The primary objective of this study is to develop a reliable method for estimating the left turn capacity at the signalized intersection. This study is performed during periods of congestion. Multi left turn lane(bay lane and exclusive lane) approaches are examined. When more than one left turn lane exists, traffic volumes are not distributed equally over each lane. The fundamental approach taken in this study is measuring headways on left turn lanes with altering the bay length from 20m to 120m. Left turn lane is divided into 3 sub-sections in this study. These are SLP section(start-up lost time Period), SFP section(saturation flow period), LSP section(lane selection period). Saturation flow rates are evaluated for each sub section periods. As a results of analysis, it has been confirmed that the left turn capacity can be estimated by left turn bay length and effective green time for left turn. The left turn bay length adjustment factor is suggested in this study.

  • Pheochromocytomas are catecholamine-producing tumors of neuroectodermal origin, and may arise wherever chromaffin cells are located. They are rare but potentially lethal and amenable to surgical cure. Once a clinical diagnosis has been established, localization becomes of importance to direct surgical approach. MIBG scintigraphy is the initial localizing procedure of choice, due to its ability to screen the entire body, especially in the detection of extraadrenal and recurrent pheochromocytoma. A case of recurrent extraadrenal pheochromocytoma diagnosed by $^{131}I$-MIBG scintigraphy is presented with review of the literature.

  • Lipoid pneumonia is a chronic inflammatory reaction of the lungs that results from the aspiration of vegetable, animal, or mineral oils. The most frequently implicated agent is mineral oil used as a laxative and to reduce dysphagia. Lipoid pneumonia is suggested when there is a history of chronic oral or intranasal use of an oil- or lipid-based product. The characteristic findings of lipid materials in CT or MRI are used in the diagnosis of lipoid pneumonia. The presence of lipid-laden macrophages in the sputum, bronchoalveolar larvage or pulmonary parenchymal biopsy confirms the diagnosis. Sputum study is simple and inexpensive. We report a case of lipoid pneumonia of 75 year old male with cough and sputum, confirmed by sputum study, and review the literature.
