  • This paper presents a study on pull cord switch system which is employed in various industry for emergency stop of the equipments. In this paper, a new method for operation position detection of pull cord switch is suggested which is based on sensing operation position by detecting input resistance variation due to switching operation of pull cord switches with respective ohmic resisters. Moreover, this paper proposes a resistor circuit structure in order to improve recognition rates. Finally, this paper treats a system where such operating switches can be read by PLC.

  • It is largely agreed that elderly drivers (over 64 years) are more likely to cause fatal crashes than other age groups. According to national road crash statistics 2021, the number of road fatalities per 10,000 drivers over 64 years old was 1.77, while that of drivers in their 30s was 0.55. This indicates a 2.67 times higher probability of causing crashes among the former than the latter. The current study estimates how rear-end crashes may be reduced by installing Automatic Emergency Braking Systems (AEBS), particularly for elderly drivers. We analyzed data from Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance. The results show that the Odds Ratio of rear-end crash occurrence between vehicles with AEBS and without AEBS is 0.75, implying there were lesser rear-end crashes in the vehicles installed with AEBS. The Odds Ratio of male drivers was determined to be 0.78, which was lesser than the 0.81 Odds Ratio obtained for female drivers. Elderly drivers who had installed AEBS in their vehicles showed an Odds Ratio of 0.76, implying crash reduction. In particular, the Odds Ratio of male elderly drivers was found to be the lowest at 0.49. We believe incentivizing by giving discounted insurance premiums to the elderly who drive vehicles installed with AEBS will help reduce rear-end crashes.

  • This paper presents a study on pull cord switch system which is employed in various industry for emergency stop of the equipments. By using power line communication(PLC) technique, in this paper, a new method for operation position detection of pull cord switch is suggested without complicated wiring of separate cables which utilize only 2 lines. Also, using control function of PLC IC, a reset signal for each switch reset can be implemented in the switch status control/sensing device. Finally, this paper shows validity and practical applicability of the proposed operating position sensing system of pull cord switch by implementing the system and revealing the response time and signal through the PLC line.

  • A large number of underground pipelines in the Ulsan National Industrial Complex has been constructed to improve the productivity of chemical products and tackle transportation problems. Now, the total of 1,293km of underground pipelines around 62 companies has been installed and operated. Many of underground pipelines have been installed outside of factories. For a past three years, five gas leakage accidents have occurred and the emergency response took up to 8 hours or more. Due to these delay in accidents, second serious accidents might occur and lead to occur damages to adjacent residents. In this study, it is assumed that emergency valve systems are installed under a ground and the efficacy of these is verified. Consequence analysis program was employed to evaluate the mitigation impact of emergency valve systems. The results show that these valve systems are economical and their performances for a mitigation are excellent. The results indicate that the installation of emergency valve systems for underground pipelines should be urgently legislated and performed.

  • Recently, there have been efforts in many countries to reduce social expenses and casualties resulting due to car accidents. As such, ASS (active safety systems) are being researched and developed to prevent accidents and target mitigation. Among many useful active safety systems, it has been reported that commercial AEBS (Advanced Emergency Braking System) effectively prevents accidents and reduces casualties simultaneously. Accordingly, it is necessary to set Korean AEBS standards, and this research analyzes international AEBS standards for this necessity. In addition to the evaluation methodology of AEBS ECE Regulation, this study suggests traffic scenarios that occur frequently in domestic road environments, and provides an evaluation system for AEBS of the scenarios. Finally, the performance and safety of AEBS are evaluated through field test.

  • The fact that the gigantic and luxurious cruise, Titanic, sank into the cold winter sea causing 1,490 casualties in 1912 resulted in discussing safety of life at sea international and Korea has adopted and operated the GMDSS to keep up with those international endeavors to decrease the number of tragic accidents at sea, However, all GMDSS equipment is making a monotonous beep sound when receiving a distress, emergency, safety and even general message so that it might contribute to lowering ship operators' cognitive abilities as well as being dull of safety precautions. So, I'd like to render great services for saving even one person by considering developing an automatic audio alarm device which allows people to respond in a prompt manner as soon as they hear an audion alarm such as a shipwreck.
