Experiencing Design Foundation in On-Line Education - By Using The Basic Graphic Tools - (디지털 학습 환경에서의 기초디자인 교육 - 기초디자인 훈련 도구(Basic Graphic Tools)의 개발을 중심으로 -)

  • The development of personal computers and the Internet led to changes of instructor-student and student-student relationships in design education. New resources of design education with proper materials and tools have to be offered for teaching and learning. The purpose of this research is to develop Basic Graphic Tools(BGTs) on screen that help students to practice the design principles, and to evaluate the BGTs' usability to enhance the credibility of extra tools for online design learning. The BGTs has to be developed to minimize the gap between the online and traditional classroom settings and to maximize the diverse advantage of lecture content driven from technology. Students were given certain design requirements to explore BGTs and a learning guide/performance test after the lecture to evaluate the tools. The test was performed under the e-learning program serviced by C college. This research has presented some encouraging results and raises questions toward future work: how do BGTs impact the feasibility of an online design lecture.

A Development of Career Aptitude Scale for Design Majoring University Students (디자인 진로적성검사의 개발)

  • This study developed 'Design Career Aptitude Scale' to help design majoring college students who are seeking their career goals or conflicting to decide their majors. The subscales of the 'Design Career Aptitude Scale' are 'basic job competency', 'basic design competency' and' advanced design competency'. This study further classified the 'basic job competency' and 'basic design competency' into several subareas and defined each concepts. Based upon the classification of each subareas, tentative test items were developed through the verification of validity three times by seven design professionals. A pilot study of the developed scale was administered to 506 design majoring college students. The results by exploratory factor analysis were that the basic job competency was composed of four factors; ability of interpersonal relations, goal-driven ability, problem solving ability and self-developing ability. The basic design competency was composed of five factor, grounding in design, computer skills, material sensitivity, formative ability and color sensitivity. The results can be seen as an adequate, delicate factor structure to represent design aptitude, and also the scale can be a useful tool to the students who are conflicting to decide their majors and careers. The further study needed to validate the scale through the investigation of the relationship with related scales measuring designing ability, and with other criteria-referenced group.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 특정 목적을 가진 제품들의 특성들을 파악하여 디자인 개발시 이러한 특성들을 제품 컨셉 또는 디자인 형태에 응용하고자 함이다. 이를 위해 먼저 실험 대상을 설정하였고, 실험 대상을 선택한 후 실험 대상에 관한 기초 설문과 실험 대상 이미지 분석을 실시하였다. 이후 실험 대상의 디자인과 기능적 요소를 추출하여 코딩하였다. 그리고 실험 대상의 이미지분석 후 얻은 요소와 실험 대상의 요소의 관계를 증명하였으며, 실험 대상의 특성 추출을 위한 설문을 실시하였다. 이러한 실험 프로세스를 거쳐 특정한 제품에 특성들을 추출함으로써 디자인 개발 시 소비자 니즈의 분석이 가능하며, 제품을 이해하는 기초 자료로 사용이 가능하다. 또한 디자이너가 제품을 쉽게 이해하고 디자인 개발 시 컨셉 설정에 큰 기초가 된다. 본 연구의 MP3의 경우 MP3의 이미지 분석 결과 음악성, 확장성, 휴대성, 사용성, 신체 부담감, 인터페이스, 그리고 개성으로 나타났으며, 이들과 각각 연관된 특성들을 찾았다. 이로써 MP3를 디자인할 때 중요 특성들을 제시하였다. 이러한 기초 연구를 통해 보다 효과적인 소비자 니즈 파악이 가능하고, 디자인 기초 학문 발전을 가져올 것이다.

The role of foundation courses in industrial design in formation of german design image (독일 디자인 이미지 형성에서의 산업디자인 기초 과정의 역할에 관한 고찰)

  • The foundation courses of industrial design from Bauhaus to today is, a delivery room of modern industrial design, played an essential role of the image formation in the current German design. In the foundation courses of industrial design that is required in our society, not only the concept gestalt should be understood, approached to industrial design through the integrated meaning of science and culture. In this paper, the historical establishment background of gestalt universities that contributed enormously to the development of German industrial design was analyzed, and then tried to understand the fundamentals of German design education. Also the results of the foundation courses at Bauhaus, Vim university and current German gestalt universities are compared to the products, which illustrates a typical German Image. With this comparison, the importance of the role of the basic design education was recognized, and using the results the necessary direction of the foundation courses in Korean industrial design was presented.
