  • This paper aims at analyzing the effect of the relationship between innovation intermediaries and firms on firms' absorptive capacity from the perspectives of social capital. And it also analyzes how firms' innovation environment influences on their absorptive capacity in this process. For this purpose, we carry out an empirical analysis on 200 firms in the Daedeok Innopolis, which is the representative innovation cluster in Korea. According to this study, firm's absorptive capacity is positively affected by the reliability and frequency of firms' communication with innovation intermediaries. However, the geographic proximity does not have significant influence. Also, the innovation environmental factors play a positive moderating role in the absorptive capacity of firms, and the social factors have a distinct significant influence on it directly. Based on these findings, this paper would make a contribution to recognize the importance of innovation intermediaries in innovation process and their role as preceding factors to firms' absorptive capacity, as well as innovative environment in the innovation process.

This study tests three hypotheses on management performance of adoption of ISO 14001. The main findings are as follows. The first hypothesis is supported in terms of debt ratio, fixed assets to net worth and fixed liabilities, net sales growth rate at the 1%, 5%, 5% significance level. The second one is supported in terms of current ratio, debt ratio, fixed assets to net worth and fixed liabilities at the 10%, 1%, 1% significance level. The third one is supported in terms of gross margin on sales, total assets turnover at the 1%, 10% significance level. These findings have important implications

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the service strategies of foreign service firms between Singapore and Korea, relative to the country where their headquarters are located. Specifically this study investigates (1) how the service strategies are adaptively executed based on local circumstances, (2) to what extent the cultural and legal environments of the two countries are different, and (3) how the differences in the environments affect the adaptation of the service strategies. The findings of this study indicate that there exists the perceptual differences in the legal environments between Singapore and Korea, but no significant differences are found in the cultural environments. The differences in the legal environments, however, do not affect the adaptation of the service strategies. Interestingly enough, the foreign service firms in Singapore perceive less sensitively the need for adapting service strategies. But the foreign service firms in Korea perceive more sensitively the need for the adaptation.

This study empirically examines why organizations strategically choose the priority claim application which is more strong tactics to protect technology as the source of sustainable competitive advantage. We suggest that market and environmental factors, such as exogenous shock, volatility, and uncertainty, may also affect strategic decision that organization take patent application with claiming priority. The results of our analysis of priority claim application in the Korean high-tech electronics industry from 1994 to 2008 showed that these three strategic factors affected the technology protection decision and organization's status also moderate theses effects, as predicted in our hypotheses.
