Bayesian Network Analysis for the Dynamic Prediction of Financial Performance Using Corporate Social Responsibility Activities (베이지안 네트워크를 이용한 기업의 사회적 책임활동과 재무성과)

  • This study analyzes the impact of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities on financial performances using Bayesian Network. The research tries to overcome the issues of the uniform assumption of a linear function between financial performance and CSR activities in multiple regression analysis widely used in previous studies. It is required to infer a causal relationship between activities of CSR which have an impact on the financial performances. Identifying the relationship would empower the firms to improve their financial performance by informing the decision makers about the different CSR activities that influence the financial performance of the firms. This research proposes General Bayesian Network (GBN) and presents Markov Blanket induced from GBN. It is empirically demonstrated that all the proposals presented in this study are statistically significant by the results of the research conducted by Korean Economic Justice Institute (KEJI) under Citizen's Coalition for Economic Justice (CCEJ) which investigated approximately 200 companies in Korea based on Korean Economic Justice Institute Index (KEJI index) from 2005 to 2011. The Bayesian Network to effectively infer the properties affecting financial performances through the probabilistic causal relationship. Moreover, I found that there is a causal relationship among CSR activities variable; that is Environment protection is related to Customer protection, Employee satisfaction, and firm size; Soundness is related to Total CSR Evaluation Score, Debt-Assets Ratio. Though the what-if analysis, I suggest to the sensitive factor among the explanatory variables.

The Relation Between Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility (지배구조가 기업의 사회적 책임에 미치는 영향)

  • This research investigates the systematic relation between corporate governance and corporate social responsibility(CSR). Based on the argument that corporate governance would play the role of mitigating conflicts between firms and society, we hypothesized that corporate governance would enhance CSR performance. Specifically, the firms with good governance are predicted to have CSR performance than those with bad governance. These hypotheses were tested using 130ce rean firms from 1998 to 2005. An index published by e rean Economic Justice mance the(KEJm) was used as the measureses wSR performance. Our empirical results suggest that the firms with good governance as measured by f reign investh bad goothshae directh bad goirdit committee exhibit better CSR performance. For these purposes, we developegoi research modehobased on the literaturesreviews es pe bn tho media, pe ceived risk and interactivity, satissaction, and commitment. This study has identified four dimensions in the concept of perceived risk, such as privacy risk, social risk, time loss risk, and economic risk, and three dimensions in the concept of perceived interactivity, such as active control, two-way communication, and responsiveness.

A Study on the Relevance of the BSC Adoption Firm's CSV index to the Firm Value (BSC 도입기업의 공유가치창출(CSV) 지표와 기업가치의 관련성)

  • The KPI of the four perspectives in BSC need to modify because of the change of management environment. In particular, the KPI of the financial perspective needs to modify necessarily. The KPI of financial perspective has been consisted of short-term measures: net profit current year, operating profit, ROE, ROIC, and EVA. But this financial indicators cannot afford to represent essential corporate sustainability management in the change of management environment. So this study suggests CSV(Creating Shared Value) as an additional KPI of financial perspective. And this study investigates whether CSV represents business performance as the additional KPI in BSC adoption firms. To verify a hypothesis, the sample includes listed firms announcing CSR index publicly between 2005 and 2010. The results of this study are summarized as follows. The high CSV firms is higher on the value relevance of firm in comparison with low CSV firms. Moreover, The firm value of BSC adoption firms is lower than otherwise, but it is insignificant. Limitation of Our study is that we have no choice but to use dummy variable. Because it is a material question as CSV measurement. Nevertheless, contribution of our study is to suggest new KPI of BSC perspective to meet management environment.

  • 글로벌 물산업의 규모는 2019년 기준 약 1,000조원 수준으로 2024년까지 연평균 3.5%의 성장률을 달성할 것으로 예측하고 있다. 특히 코로나 19의 영향으로 디지털 물산업에 대한 투자가 증가하고 있으며 4차산업혁명 등으로 지속 성장이 예상되고 있다. 이러한 디지털 물산업 시장의 성장은 물산업분야의 기술경쟁력의 중요도가 더욱 높아질 것을 예상하게 한다. 우리나라의 물산업에 있어서 기술경쟁력 분석을 위해 많은 연구가 진행되어왔으나 대부분 설문조사에 근거한 정석적 분석에 의존하여 왔다. 정성적인 분석에 의존한 연구의 경우, 대상 응답자들이 특정 분야에 치중되어 분석되거나 긍정적으로 판단하는 경향이 있어 우리나라의 물산업 기술의 현재 상황을 과대평가할 가능성이 있다. 또한 연구시점, 설문분야에 따라 결과가 상이할 수 있어 결과의 신뢰성 및 시계열적 추이분석이 어려워 물산업정책 수립을 위해 활용되는데 한계가 존재하였다. 본연구에서는 기존의 정성적 분석에서 벗어나 정량적인 자료에 근거하여 우리나라의 물산업 기술수준과 시장지배를 동시에 고려하여 분석하였다. 물산업의 기술영향력지수(Cites per Patent)와 시장지배력지수(Patent Family Size)를 기준으로 선도국가와 국내 물산업 기술수준 및 시장영향력을 비교하고 평가하였다. 연구결과의 정책적 활용을 위해 물기술과 물시장의 상이한 분류체계를 물시장 중심으로 재분류하여 물산업 기술경쟁력을 분석하여 제시하였다. 연구결과 우리나라의 국내 기술영향력 중 가장 낮은 분야는 하수도 디지털 분야로 선도국가 대비 30% 수준이었으며 시장지배력분야 또한 하수분야로 7% 수준으로 파악되었다.

  • 본격적인 국제 사이버 과학기술 R&D 시대를 열어 줄 국제과학기술협업연구망 글로리아드(GLORIAD) 개통을 기념해, 우리 연구원은 지난 9월 5일부터 6일까지 이틀 간 서울롯데호텔(소공동 소재)에서 세계적인 과학기술계 석학들과 함께 '글로벌 첨단 과학기술협업연구망의 발전방안 모색'이라는 주제로 국제 심포지움을 개최했다. 그 첫날인 9월 5일 우리 연구원은 전자신문사와 공동으로 글로리아드 개통의 의의와 앞으로의 발전방향을 진단해 보는 좌담회를 열었다. 좌담회는 우리 연구원 이지수 슈퍼컴퓨팅센터장의 사회로, 미국 글로리아드 사업책임자인 오크릿지 국립연구소(UT-ORNL) 그렉 콜(Greg Cole) 박사, KAIST 전자전산학과 전길남 교수, 세계 핵융합에너지(ITER) 연구의 최고 권위자인 러시아 쿠르차토프연구소(RRC" Kurchatov Institute) 벨리코프(Evegany Velikhov) 소장, 중국 글로리아드 사업 책임자인 중국 전산망정보센터 얀 바오핑(Baopin Yan)센터장, 세계적인 네트워킹 기업 VSNL의 디렉터 빅토르 헤다드(Victor Haddard)가 참가했다.

Exploring Domestic ESG Research Trends: Focusing on Domestic Research on ESG from 2012 to 2021 (국내 ESG 연구동향 탐색: 2012~2021년 진행된 국내 학술연구 중심으로)

  • As the value of highly sustainable companies increases, ESG(Environmental, Social, and Governance) has emerged as the biggest topic of discussion for companies around the world. In addition, as domestically, more research is being done on ESG in line with global trends, it is necessary to examine ESG research trends. Accordingly, ESG academic papers that have been published for the past 10 years were collected for each year, and frequency analysis was conducted using text mining techniques regarding key themes and thesis titles. This paper analyzed the number of selected publications by year and the cumulated number of studies through bibliometric analysis. The findings suggested that the number of ESG papers is increasing each year and that academic interest in ESG-related issues continues to abound. Next, according to the results of frequency analysis of the keywords and titles of the research papers, the words- "ESG", "company", "society", "responsibility", "management", "investment", and "sustainability"- were extracted. This analysis identified the research fields and keywords that have been relevant to ESG in the past 10 years. As a result of comparing the major ESG issues presented in recent overseas studies and the common factors of the ESG key keywords presented in this study, it was confirmed that the environment is the focus of recent studies compared to previous studies. Third, it was found that the data used by domestic ESG studies mainly include the KEJI index, the KRX index, and the KCGS ESG evaluation index. After identifying the main research subjects of ESG papers, research found that 8 out of 152 domestic ESG studies were focused on SMEs. Through this study, it was possible to confirm the ESG research trend and increase in research, and future researchers divided the research topics and research keywords and presented basic data for selecting more diverse research topics. Based on both, the arguments of previous ESG studies conducted on SMEs and the results of this study, there is a lack of studies on guidelines for ESG practice and their application to SMEs, and more ESG research regarding SMEs will need to be conducted in the future.

A Study on the Career Management for Construction Engineers through the Professional FGI Results: Focused on the Index of Construction Engineer's Competency (전문가 FGI를 통한 건설기술자 경력관리 방안 연구: 건설기술자 역량지수를 중심으로)

  • This study aims to analyze the current career management system for construction engineers and propose the developed future plan for the career management system. Especially, this study explores the Index of Construction Engineer's Competency(ICEC) and issues for workplace competency development which is the foundation of the career management system for construction engineers and proposes the advanced strategies for operating the career management system. For the developing the future strategy of the current construction engineer's career management system, a focus group interview was conducted in this study. Total 12 experts participated in the FGI. The study results identify the six key issues for advanced construction engineers' career management system. Those six issues include 1)preparing in the inducement of new human resources, 2)institutional modification of the current job/expertise fields, 3)attaching importance of practical experience in the workplace, 4)consideration of various factors of individual career, and 5)developing the highest level's workplace competency. Based on these research findings, theoretical and practical implication and suggestion for future studies were provided.
