A Study on the School Library Media Center Program (학교도서관의 교수 - 학습지원 프로그램 운영)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the principles of school library media center program and to finds out present level and future outlook of the program implementation in primary and middle school. The fundamental objective of school is learning and school library functions as a link to support this objective. Therefore quality of education must always be linked to the library media programs. A questionaire which consists of 13 questions covering school library media center operation was designed to final out how learning-teaching media program is being practiced in Korea. Based on this study, it is concluded that there is significant difference between present practice level and desired future-oriented practice. It is hoped that this study will help planners in formulating school library policy to achieve educational goal of the school.

A Study on the Recognition of Information Accepter about Civil Defence Alert Broadcasting (민방위 경보 방송에 대한 정보 수용자 인식 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest improvement direction of the delivery system through researching the information accepter' recognition and use about warning delivery system. According to the survey, they listen to civil defence alert broadcasting on mass media more than personal media. The frequency of alert broadcasting is significantly very low and they listen to it below 5 times in a year. Also, nearly one in four people says its siren and contents are indistinct. Alert broadcasting's siren shows less memory retrieval and sorting capability than others and the result shows that they will act based on the broadcasting instead of reacting to prior knowledge in real situations. Finally, the result shows that improving public awareness through education and publicity more than social system buildup is important in civil defence alert system.

  • The constraints of printed text have been lifted through developments in computer technology which has been identified as a revolutionary force. Hypertexts can be simply defined as electronic text that is found online, in a non-linear manner. In contrast to traditional printed texts, electronic writing depends upon an emergent technology, which is still subject to transformation. Unfortunately more research is needed on the experiences readers have when reading documents in hypertext formats for the purpose of knowledge retention. This study is to research the contrast between the traditional printed texts and hypertexts. Other areas where the literature has been relatively silent will be explored such as the experiences subjects have in reading hypertexts, and printed texts. It was clearly founded that the format of text does significantly influence the recall comprehension level of readers in the Printed Text and Hypertext Groups.

  • This paper introduces the process in which the Center for Freedom of Information, founded for the public's right to know by disseminating public information, was created . Building archives with scarce resources and capacities has resulted in a number of troubles and frustrations, and the need for reorientation. However, through the contributions of many people empathizing with the unique needs and meanings of citizen-led archives, difficulties were overcome, and archives were built. This paper summarizes the specific difficulties and capabilities required in this process, especially the knowledge and assistance needed in the field of records management. Although much research is necessary, the archives serve as an example of remembering and reconstructing the past when the 1997 Crisis Archives had shaken all the foundations of people's lives, and a tool to guide decision-making.

  • The purpose of this study is to ermine the effect of digital storytelling as a strategy of programming education to improve students' learning motivation and achievement. To overcome the difficulty of programming education in elementary school and find teaching method which derives the students' motivation, we used a digital storytelling in programming class. Digital storytelling that is considered as an important factor of edutainment gives interest to learners with interaction and stories for programming materials. The result is that elementary school students are more interested in programming and attend actively and their motivation and achievement is improved. Therefore it can gives elementary school students a positive experience with programming that will hopefully contribute to a more positive attitude towards computer science.

The Influences of Pair Activity on Characteristics of Science Imaginary Pictures Drawn by Elementary School Students and Their Perceptions of Science Imaginary Drawing (짝 활동이 초등학생의 과학상상화 특성 및 과학상상화에 대한 인식에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the influences of pair activity on characteristics of science imaginary pictures drawn by elementary school students and their perceptions of science imaginary drawing. To do this, fourth graders (N=123) from one of the elementary schools were selected and assigned to individual science imaginary drawing (n=61) and paired science imaginary drawing (n=62) groups. The students of each group were administered the questionnaires. The analyses of the results indicated that pair science imaginary drawing was useful in some cognitive aspects (e.g., the understanding of science imaginary drawing, the diversification of topics and times, the generation of scientific ideas, and the elaboration of the pictures) and motivational aspects (e.g., the inducement of interest and intimacy about science, interest about science imaginary drawing, and sociability with friends). However, there were some limitations in positively changing the perceptions of some cognitive aspects (e.g., the acquirement of new scientific knowledge, the remembrance of scientific knowledge, the improvement of the ability to construct scientific logics, and the improvement of scientific imagination) and aesthetic aspects (e.g., the improvement of the abilities to express themes in drawing, paint the picture, and complete the works of art). In addition, the difficulties in imagining, selecting the subject, and expressing could not be overcome; a few disadvantages in the lack of discussion skills were also pointed out.

The Generating Processes of Scientific Emotion in the Generation of Biological Hypotheses (생물학 가설의 생성에서 나타난 과학적 감성의 생성 과정)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the generating processes of scientific emotion, that appears during the generation of biological hypotheses. To perform the study, a tentative model was set up through pilot test, a think-aloud training procedure was planned and a standardized interview instrument was developed before getting protocols. In this study, 8 college students were selected to bring out protocol through the method of think-aloud, retrospective debriefing, focused interview and observing. As the result of analysis of the collected protocol through coding scheme, 4 types of process for scientific emotion-generating were sorted out. First type was a basic process which was a feeling process in prior to recognition. Second type was a retrospective process that explains the process of retrospect for emotional memory based on the past. Third type was a cognitive process and it explains emotion that occurs during thinking process to achieve cognitive goal. Fourth type was an attribution process and it explains that emotion is generated in the process of attribution for cognitive goal's achievement. These types of process of scientific emotion-generating can contribute the basis for developing cognitive model of EBL (Emotional Brain-based Learning) strategy.

Design and Implementation of a Field Experience Activity Support System for Improving Social Skills of Children with Developmental Disabilities (발달장애 아동의 사회적 기술 향상을 위한 현장체험학습 지원 시스템의 설계 및 구현)

  • In this thesis, a field experience activity support system is designed and implemented for improving social skills of children with developmental disabilities. The proposed system is designed to allow the students to experience various field activities around their local community. The proposed system has the following characteristics. First, it can improve effectiveness of field experience by providing very practical pre-study information to students. Second, the systems provides very practical and real-world problem-solving abilities rather than providing simple experience and superficial information. Third, the system allows students to change the contents according to their local community environments and purpose of use. Fourth, the system can be used as education for living at home as well as field experience study at schools. After applying the proposed system to students with developmental disabilities, the following positive results are obtained. First, the system have good effect on students with severe developmental disabilities when the system is used for prestudy. Specially those students are highly interested and motivated on study subjects. Second, at real field experience study place, students are well adapted and are very interested in their activities. Third, in the light of post-evaluation after field experience, it is reported that lots of study contents remain in their memory.

A Study on the Creation and Maintenance of Laboratory Notebooks in Scientific Laboratories of a University (자연과학분야 대학실험실에서의 연구노트 작성 및 관리에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigated the perceived significance of laboratory(lab) notebooks and the creation and maintenance of them from the perspectives of graduate students and professors in science fields. Semi-structured interviews of three professors and four graduate students were conducted. The interviewees were from three university laboratories of physics, chemistry and biological science. While professors perceived administrative continuity to be a reason for creating lab notebooks, students valued lab notebooks as a memory, and emphasized learning professional knowledge and skills through the recordkeeping practice. Students understood the ownership of lab notebooks and professors wanted to keep lab notebooks until they retire. Interviewees focused more on the content of lab notebooks rather than the form and the structure. They were also not willing to adopt an electronic lab notebook system. Students learned how to create lab notebooks through a course, their current or former academic advisors, seniors in the lab or well-written sample lab notebooks. In particular, students have learned how to create lab notebooks within their laboratories, which are considered to be communities of practice. In this sense, professors responsible for managing laboratories play an important part in teaching students the recordkeeping practice. University archives should also be more concerned with managing and preserving lab notebooks created from their universities.

  • This research considers the role of knowledge as marketing message, designs and analyses the personal experience management (PEM) business model using Human-Reader system. It is difficult to save and manage person's daily experience and relevant contents due to the lack of proper infrastructure and system. On the contrary, using Human-Reader infrastructure, person's experience and various relevant contents can be easily saved and managed because seamlessness between offline and online and the various devices that person can always carry along in ubiquitous environment. Since person can store and manage information, contents and advertisements through Human-Reader system and u-PEMS, marketing messages and advertisements do not have to be repetitive and stimulating. Instead, marketing messages and advertisements in Human-Reader environment should be granting values that can be saved and managed. We propose various scenarios, processes and its issues. And we analyze the expected value of RFID tag used on the proposed business model by so-called 'Tag Evaluation Model' and assess the assumptions that are basis of the proposed business model for evaluate the feasibility of the u-PEM business model.
