This article analyzes the evolutionary process of Daedeok Science Town from the standpoint of the life of science and technology poles. It deals the theoretical discussion on the science and technology poles, and investigates the history of Daedeok Science Town dividing into the period of conception, construction, and clustering. Daedeok Science Town has been developed from research and academic city through special research parks to innovative clusters, and nowadays emphasizes networking, interaction, and commercialization. This study shows the types of science and technology poles can be analyzed by historical consideration of specific Korean case.

In general, Innovation Systems consists of actors, institution and network. And mutual learning through the innovation capacity is to be increased, which ultimately evolved through innovation that explains the system itself. In this study, Senior Friendly Industry in Korea for 'Innovation systems formation and evolution of the process' a dynamic perspective. The purpose of this paper is to provide suggestions that innovation policy implications for technological innovation in this sector or similar industry like a health industry, environment industry and etc. Study, a new type of formation and the evolution of the innovative system was confirmed. As the Senior Friendly Industry is a new case for innovation studies, our study may provide new research opportunities to the academia.

This paper aims at discussing the evolution of innovation theory from the beginning of the last century to present. Innovation theory has begun by Joseph Schumpeter in the beginning of the last century and his theory had not attained much attention compared to the mainstream economic theory. In the 1960s, some neo-classical economists analyzed the effect of technological change on economic growth and emphasized the role of demand in innovation process. However, in the beginning of the 1970s, Schumpeter's innovation theory, which emphasized the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in economic and social development, attained enormous attention by many liberal economists. They were called neo-Schumpeterians as they followed the theories and ideas of Schumpeter. In the middle of the 1980s, neo-Schumpeterians identified the concept of national innovation system(NIS), which is the total mobilization system of innovation resources for generating, appropriating and diffusing technological innovations. Soon this theory diffused very quickly at regional and sectoral level. As a result, there have been very active empirical studies on innovation systems in the world. Since the beginning of the 2000s the transition study have been actively carried out mainly in European countries. This study emphasizes the transition of existing innovation systems into more sustainable ones. In Korea we need to activate transition study, because there have been only few studies in this new theory.

The transformation of sector system in ICT, a prominent character in sector systems, has been paid much attention in innovation theory since Information technologies and technological environment have rapidly changed. In this context, we employ US patent data and proxy variables, measuring the basic elements for analyzing SIS and its technological characteristics in order to explore how SIS is transformed. By utilizing patent analysis, it is demonstrated that technological regimes, key links and Schumpeterian patterns of innovation have transformed drastically over last 3 decades in overall ICT sector. Consequently, our research shows clear evidence that Schumpeterian patterns of innovation have shifted from Mark I to Mark II in ICT. Our study provides a glimpse picture of dynamics of SIS since 1970 in the technological level by utilizing patent analysis.

This research analyzed regional innovation capabilities and technological activities of firms in Chungnam province of South Korea on the basis of a questionnaire survey of 64 regional manufacturing firms. The existence and level of regional innovation capabilities were measured by the perceptions of firms, a core actor in the regional innovation system. The analysis result revealed that research capabilities of academia, capabilities of R&D institutes, technological capabilities of industry, and governmental policy support were recognized as major capabilities of the regional innovation system. Regional proximity was also found to have significant influence on firms‘ sources of technological innovation and selection of collaboration partners. Practical as well as theoretical implications of the findings and future research directions were discussed at the last part.

This paper critically examines research trends on the relationship between technological innovation and economic growth in Korea. There are different views on the role of innovation in economic growth including Exogenous and Endogenous Growth, National Innovation System, Technological Capabilities, Economic Catch-up discourses and so on. According to these theoretical discourses, existing studies about Korea are reviewed in a critical way and then future research work is proposed through such a critical review and reflection.

개방형 혁신(Open Innovation)은 조직 내부에 국한되어 있던 기술개발 활동을 기업 외부까지 확장하여 외부 기술지식과 내부 기술력을 함께 활용하는 혁신성과 극대화 전략을 의미한다. 개방형 혁신은 기술개발의 성공률이 높고, 비용이 상대적으로 저렴하다는 장점을 갖고 있어 이에 근거한 기술중개서비스 전문기업들이 글로벌시장에서 활동하고 있다. 그 대표적인 사례가 나인시그마(NineSigma) 및 이노센티브(InnoCentive)이다. 그러나, 그러나 현재까지 이들 기업은 매출액 및 R&D 투자가 일정규모 이상인 글로벌 대기업을 대상으로 하고 있으며, 중소기업을 수혜자로 한 개방형 혁신 서비스는 충분히 제공되고 있지 않다. 본 연구에서는 부품 소재 중소기업을 주요 수요자로 한 개방형 혁신 기술중개서비스 모델을 제안하고 있다. 국내 부품 소재산업의 경쟁력 제고의 핵심 관건은 부품소재 중소기업의 기술혁신 역량 강화로 볼 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 개방형 혁신의 장점을 부품소재 중소기업에서 활용하기 위한 필요조건을 조사하고, 그에 근거하여 개방형 혁신 중개서비스 모델에 포함된 다양한 혁신주체들의 역할을 제안하였다. 본 연구의 세부 내용을 구조화하여 제시하면 다음과 같다. (1) 개방형 기술혁신체제의 정의와 동향 검토 (2) 국내외 개방형 기술혁신의 사례 조사 (3) 부품 소재기업 대상의 개방형 기술혁신체제 도입 필요성 타당성 검토 (4) 부품 소재산업 개방형 기술혁신 모델 개발 (5) 국내 부품 소재산업 발전을 위한 개방형 기술혁신 활성화 정책과제 검토
