A study on the reform of the liberal arts curriculum based on key competencies for the innovation of liberal arts education in Universities (대학 교양교육 혁신을 위한 핵심역량 기반 교양 교육과정 개편에 대한 연구 -C 대학 사례를 중심으로)

  • The 21st century of the 4th industrial revolution demands 'competency' as a new educational concept that is different from that required in the industrialization era. In accordance with these changes and demands of society, universities are being called for key competency-based education and innovation in education through this by breaking away from the existing methods in liberal arts and major education. At this point, universities are presenting a comprehensive reform of liberal arts education for various financial support projects. This study presents the case of University C regarding the reform of the liberal arts curriculum for the innovation of liberal arts education in universities. According to the research results, each university is reorganizing the liberal arts curriculum in a way that can suggest various key competencies according to the university's founding philosophy and induce key competencies in the aspect of liberal arts education. For the key competency-based liberal arts curriculum of University C, we proposed various subjects for insufficient key competency subjects, various micro-degrees were proposed to specialize liberal arts education, and meta-learning-related liberal arts subjects were presented to improve basic learning ability of the students.

  • This study aimed at examining the relationship among organizational learning competency, organizational commitment, protean career attitude, and organizational innovativeness as perceived by university faculties and staff as organizational innovation becomes a key challenge for universities to thrive for strengthening competitiveness. The analysis results are as follows. First, organizational learning capabilities showed a positive effect on organizational innovativeness. Second, organizational learning capabilities had a positive effect on organizational commitment. Third, organizational commitment had a positive effect on organizational innovativeness. Fourth, in the relationship between organizational learning competency and organizational innovativeness, organizational commitment showed a mediating effect and protean career attitude showed a moderating effect. Through this study, The results implies that universities should provide organizational environment to enhance organizational commitment of university faculties and develop protean career attitude thrive in changing environment.

What Determines the Openness of Korean Manufacturing Firms to External Knowledge? (한국 제조 기업들의 외부지식 활용 결정요인 연구)

  • I examine what factors influence a firm's openness to external sources of knowledge in the Korean manufacturing sector. Related literature suggests a firm's appropriability strategy, absorptive capacity, technology entrepreneurship, firm size and industry-level technological opportunities as possible determinants. Using Korean Manufacturing Innovation Survey, I test how these factors influence the degree of openness of Korean manufacturing firm. I find the followings: First, when the appropriability strategy becomes tighter, a firm becomes more open to external sources. Second, when the share of highly educated employees increases, a firm becomes more open. Third, when a firm is a technology entrepreneur, the openness increases. Fourth, a large firm is likely to be more open. Lastly, ample technological opportunities increase the openness. In Korean manufacturing industries, the highly educated employees and technology entrepreneurship are more influential factors for a firm's openness.

the Impact of Medium Sized Firm's Knowledge and Industry Dynamism on Firm Performance (중기업의 지식자산과 산업의 역동성이 기업성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper examined the relationship between innovation and firm performance by integrating industry competitive context and firm-level knowledge constructs. After controlling for firm site, age, and the presence of a union, cross-section analysis of survey data from 1,419 medium sized manufacturing firms yielded following findings. The first was the expected positive relationship between firm-level innovation and firm knowledge and also industry dynamism, as measured by the intensity of industry-level R&D. This results indicate that industries with greater aggregate levels of R&D intensity are home to higher rates of firm-level innovative activity and managers must increase their numbers of technical staff and the level of training. But the interaction between firm knowledge and industry dynamism was non-significant. Second, innovation was not significantly related to firm performance, as measured by revenue growth. This relationship was not moderated by industry dynamism and firm level knowledge. In high and low technology sectors, the relationship between innovation and performance was non-significant, consistent with the full-sample analysis. The results suggest that the effects of firm-level knowledge assets and investments in training don't work in different ways in different industry settings. This research used three control variables to analyze innovation and firm performance. Firm age was negatively associated with firm performance and did not significantly predict innovation. Firm size was positively associated with innovation and performance in the low-technology sector. The presence of a labor union was not a significant with respect to innovation.
