  • Mummification, host selection and biological characteristics of primary parasitoids and hyperparasitoids in the soybean aphid, Aphis glycines, were studied. The soybean aphid mummies which were infected by primary parasitoids or hyherparasitoids were collected at Taejon area from May to September in 1987 Primary parasitoids and hyperparasitoids were emerged 27.1% and 50.3%, from 177 collected mummies. respectively Aphidius cingulatus, Ephedrus persicae and Ephedres plagiator could be effective primary parasitoids against the soybean aphid. Among the hyperparasitoids, Asaphes unlgaris and Ardilea conuexa might be dominant species to primary parasitoids of the soybean aphid. Charips brasicae was recorded for the first time in Korea E.plagiator was less parasitized than any other primary parasitoid by hyperparasitoids. E. plagiator might be higher than A. cingulatus in the ability of prarsitism. Life span of hyperparasitoid and primary parasitoid was estimated to be 3~29 days and 1~4 days, respectively.

  • A gregarious pupal endoparasitoid Tetrastichsus sp. (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) was reared in vitro from oviposition to adult emergence on an artificial host. The host pupal case was made using 0.02 mm-thick polypropylene film, and was filled with a diet consisting of powders of Antheraea pernyi pupa, chicken yolk, infant formula, royal jelly, and Neisenheimer's salt solution. Female parasitoids reared in the artificial host produced smaller sized progeny than those reared in in vivo, but the adults reproduced fertile offsprings. Furthermore in vitro second-generation (G$_2$) females showed more improved biological characteristics, compared with their parents. The fecundity (mean no. adult progeny), oviposition period (days), and longevity (days) of G$_2$ female were evaluated as 45.7, 7.8, and 13.8, respectively Female biased sex ratio was obtained with 76.9% female progeny. The results demonstrated that Tetrastichus sp. is a promising parasitoid for in vitro mass production.

  • The genus Rhogadopsis Brethes, 1913 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Opiinae), which mostly parasitizes mining flies (Diptera: Agromyzidae), has been considered to subgenus in the genus Opius Wesmael, 1835. However, according to having the derived wing venation and forming a monophyletic clade, the genus Rhogadopsis is elevated to generic rank. As results of faunal survey in Yeoseo-do, Jeonnam, South Korea, the male specimen of Rhogadosis obliqua were collected by sweeping. Diagnosis, description, distribution and diagnostic illustration of Rhogadopsis obliqua are provided.

  • The genus Phaedrotoma Foerster, 1862 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Opiinae) parasitize in larvae of flies, Tephritidae, Agromyzidae, Ephydridae, Anthomyiidae, Scathophagidae, and Drosophilidae, of which 12 species are recorded in South Korea. As results of our survey, Phaedrotoma rugulifera Li et al. (2013) and Phaedrotoma vermiculifera Li et al. (2013) are reported for the first time in South Korea. Those specimens were collected by sweeping. Descriptions, and diagnostic illustrations of P. rugulifera and P. vermiculifera are provided.

  • In Fukuoka, the natural enemies of Protopulvinaria mangiferae were confirmed as six primary parasitoids, three hyperparasitoids, and six predators. Among the primary parasitoids, Aneristus ceroplastae, Microterys flavus, and Coccophagus yoshidae were relatively abundant in Fukuoka. Aneristus ceroplastae and Coccophagus yoshidae were solitary endoparasitoid, whereas Microterys flavus was a gregarious endoparasitoid. Tetrastichus sp. was a hyperparasitoid and solitarily ectoparasitic to the pupae of Aneristus ceroplastae and Microterys flavus. The seasonal fluctuation of parasitisim and adult emergence of the important parasitoids was investigated in Fukuoka. Among the predatorys, Rhyzobius forestieri and Chilocorus kuwanae were relatively abundant, and seasonal fluctuation of adult emergence and consumption of the host were studied. As the first record from Japan, Rhyzobius forestieri was collected on leaves of Elaeocarpus sylvestris with heavy infestation of Protopulvinaria mangiferae.

  • Stenomacrus deletus (Thomson, 1897), belonging to Orthocentrinae of Ichneumonidae, is newly recognized in South Korea. Most Stenomacrus species are known as koinobiont endoparasitoids of dipteran, lepidopteran, and coleopteran hosts. In this study, an additional species is recorded for the first time from South Korea. Diagnoses of genus and an unrecorded species, as well as illustrations of this species are provided.

  • A biological study was done on primary parasites and hyperparasites of green peach aphid, Myzus persicae, collected in Taejeon area during the period from April to September 1985 was. The results of mummification of primary parasites, host selectivity between primary parasites and hyperparasites, and longevity of important species were obtained as follows; 1. Among the 201 mummies collected in the field, adult primary parasites and adult hyperparasites were 38.3% and 44.3%, respectively. 2. Among the primary parasites, Lysiphlebia japonica and Trioxys hokkaidensis were most important species. 3. Among the hyperparasites, Prataphelinus nikalskajae, Eucoila sp. and Ardiles convexa were dominant species. 4. L. japonica was more parasitized by the hyperparasites than T. hokkaidensis. 5. T. hokkaidensis was higher than L. japonica in the ability of parasitism. 6. L. japonica had lived for 3 days by feeding glucose, the other foods had lived shorter than food.

  • We report the unrecorded genus and species, Notopygus emarginatus Holmgren, 1857, for the first time from South Korea. The genus Notopygus is a parasitoid wasp of Pamphiliidae (sawfly) that can be distinguished by the posterior margin of metasomal tergite eight, which frequently project strongly upwards. In the study, we provide a description and photographs of newly recorded species.
