IP Voltage Controller of Three-phase PWM Converter for Power Supply of Communication System (IP 제어기를 이용한 통신 전원용 3상 PWM 컨버터의 전압 제어)

  • 3Phase PWM rectifier has become increasingly popular due to its capability of nearly sinusoidal waveform of the input current, and nearly unity power factor operation as a AC/DC rectifier of high capacity telecommunication power supply system. Generally, PI controller is used as a voltage controller of PWM rectifier and voltage controller must be designed to have low overshoot in transient state to get a reliability and stable operation. However, in the application of telecommunication in which load condition is varied very fast, the voltage controller must have a large bandwidth to reduce output voltage variation. The PI controller with large bandwidth arouse the excessive overshoot of the output voltage, and this large output voltage variation degrades the reliability of communication power of the three-phase PWM Rectifier. In this paper, new IP voltage controller for 3 phase PWM rectifier is proposed which has relatively low transient output voltage variation. The improved output characteristics of the transient state voltage responses of the starting and at load changes of the proposed voltage controller are proved by simulations and experiments.

A Design and Implementation of Process Controller for BMW (Bacteria Mineral Water) Plant (비엠 활성수 플랜트의 공정제어기 설계 및 구현)

  • In this study, a BMW plant process control system model which produces BMW is suggested and the BMW plant process controller with the following functions is developed. The first function is to operate the electronic overload relays to stop the blower for a certain period of time and to re-operate it again when the blower is overloaded. The second function is to close the motor operated valve automatically in case of power failure to prevent the circulation from the guided tank to the compost throwing tank and to block leak from the compost throwing tank due to the failure of ball valve. The third function is to transfer produced BMW from the concentration tank to 4 storage tanks for automatic managing of the BMW output. A device to measure the signal of the BMW plant process controller and a test equipment are developed. The designed BMW plant process controller is checked to see if it operates correctly according to the design specifications. The sequence control method based on BMW plant process controller is developed at a low cost in this study, so it is expected to bring improvements in the stability and the efficiency of system and to cause reductions in the operation and the management costs in the future.

The Design and Construction of the Nuclear Microprobe (핵 마이크로프로브 설계 및 제작)

  • A nuclear microprobe system with adjustable precision object slits and a magnetic quadrupole doublet was designed by the beam optics simulation using a first order matrix formalism, and installed in a $30^{\circ}$ beam line connected with KIGAM 1.7 MV Tandem VDG Accelerator. Demagnification factors for x and y axis are calculated to be 25 and 4.9, respectively, and a minimum beam spot side is expected to be about 5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ for 3 MeV proton beams with a current of about 1 nA. A multi-purpose octagonal target chamber has been built to facilitate MeV ion-beam analytical techniques of PIXE, RBS, ERDA, and ion beam micro-machining. It contains X-ray and particle detectors, a zoom microscope, a Faraday cup, a 4-axis sample manipulator and a high vacuum pumping system. The system performance of the nuclear microprobe is now being tested, and automatic manipulator control and data acquisition system will be installed for routine applications of micro ion-beam analytical techniques.

The three dimensional measuring system for ELF magnetic fields with the multiturn loop-type sensors (멀티턴 루우프형 센서를 이용한 3차원 ELF 자장측정계)

  • With the three dimensional magnetic field measuring system dealt with in this paper, accurate measurements and analyses of extremely low frequency(ELF) magnetic fields caused by starting and/or operating electric devices and power installations can be conducted. To obtain high performance for lower frequency and spatial components without any distortion, the measuring system is designed as three dimensionally including the multiturn loop-type magnetic field sensors, differential amplifiers and active integrators. As the results of calibration experiments, the frequency response characteristics of the measuring system range from 8[Hz] to about 53[kHz] for each direction of x, y, z axes, and the response sensitivities are 9.54, 9.21, $10.89[mV/{\mu}T]$, respectively. The actual survey experiments by using an oscillating impulse current generator confirm a reliability of the proposed measuring system. Also, through the other experiments by using small-sized induction motors, the magnetic field intensities when starting and steady-state operating mark 15.8, $8.61[{\mu}T]$ as maximum value, respectively. And those intensities decrease steeply according as the measuring distance increases.

  • The sensorless control based on the flux linkage of PM synchronous motors has excellent position estimation characteristics at low speeds. However, a limitation arises because the integrator of flux estimator is saturated by the DC offset generated during the analog to digital conversion(ADC) process of the measured current. In order to overcome this limitation, HPF with a low cutoff frequency is used. However, the estimation performance is deteriorated (Ed- the verb deteriorate already includes the meaning of 'problem') at high speed due to the low cutoff frequency, and increasing the cutoff frequency of the HPF induces further problems of phase leading and initial starting failure at low speeds. In this paper, the cutoff frequency of HPF was synchronized to the operation frequency of the motor: at low speeds the cutoff frequency was set to low in order to reduce the phase leading of the estimated flux, and at high speeds it was set to high to raise the DC offset removal performance. As a result, the operating range was increased by 200%. Furthermore, a phase compensation algorithm is proposed to reduce the phase leading of the HPF to less than 1.5 degrees over the full operating range. The proposed sensorless control algorithm was verified by experiment with a PM synchronous motor for a washing machine.

  • In this paper, the research on the energy storage system adapting super-capacitor has been performed. The most advanced features compared to the conventional lead-acid battery systems is that it can obtain high power capability due to the super capacitor power characteristics. The suggested system can attain high power in short times and achieve high power quality improvements. The application areas are power quality improvement system, motor start power which requires high power during transient times. The energy conversion system consists of bi-directional converter and inverter and advantages of high speed, high power charging and discharging performances. The design steps for the two loop controller of the bi-directional inverter are suggested and verified by the experiment and manufacturing. The two loop controller design starts from linearized transfer function which is calculated from the state averaging model including state decoupling method. The current controller requirements are 20% overshoot and settling time and voltage controller are no overshoot and settling time which is 10 times longer than current controller. The design is verified from the step input response. The designed controllers have unity power factor characteristics and thus can improve the power quality of the grid. It also has fast response time and zero steady state error.
